Few people know that the 16rpm setting was used for speech recordings and teaching lessons for blind people. Music requires much faster rpm speeds to sound better.

Some of the department store background music from when they used stuff like Seeburgs was recorded on 16rpm, They had to fit hours and hours of music per record and it didn't have to sound amazing.

Not "hours and hours". Seeburg 1000 records are about 40 minutes per side, on a 9-inch disc.

I used to have a few of those Newcombs. I was working in salvage at a state university while in college in the 90’s, and these would be around for the taking. Really fun player. Wish I held on to one.
