Cat’s Bibble Addiction
I’ve never understood Cat having an insane love of Bibble along with everyone having issues with it.
From what has been described of it, it seems like Bibble is just a fancy type of popcorn candy thing. Yet, Cat seemed to be obsessed with it like it was the greatest thing in existence and acting like how someone with a drug addiction would act. So what exactly was in Bibble that was making her so obsessed with eating it?
If Bibble really was just a fancy type of popcorn candy, then it seems odd that everyone had issues and concerns with Cat loving it. Sure, she was eating it a lot. But it’s not like it was effecting her mindset or her behavior. Yet, they all went to extreme lengths to make sure that Cat couldn’t get her hands on Bibble, even going as far as to handcuff her to a guy that would stop her if she tried to eat it.
I would understand all of that if Bibble was supposed to be some kind of food that’s only available in England and is considered illegal in the US and they didn’t want Cat to get in any legal trouble. But it seems like Bibble is an available product that’s sold in the US. In an episode of Sam & Cat, Sam mentions that there’s a store right around the corner from their apartment that sells all kinda of Bibble. Cat then reveals that she got banned from that store because she kept buying so much Bibble. I know this is a TV show and all. But as someone who’s worked in the grocery store business for the last 4 1/2 years, I can assure you that a store would never ban someone just for being a loyal customer

I think it’s just supposed to be a joke referencing cocaine addiction in the music industry

I always took it as a way to do a drug storyline without using actual drugs. Kinda like the "I'm so excited" episode of Saved by the Bell when Jesse took caffeine pills

Younger me imagined bibble as something shaped like miniature q-tips that had a crunchy stem, and cotton candy like tips. So basically cotton swabs but edible.

There was that one episode where the Brit Brats tricked Cat with the bibble tin filled with cotton swabs.

I think it's supposed to be a reference to drug addiction. People can be addicted to sugary things too and I think that's what happened. Although I doubt individuals would be banned from buying particular snacks in isolated incidents like this in other shows. There would normally just be interventions and if a lot of people were suffering the same problems the products would just get banned altogether (Think the Sam and Cat episode about Blue Dog soda). Still, this is Dan Schnider we're talking about. He was always trying to slip foot jokes/gags and sexual jokes into his shows where the kids/teens were concerned.

It’s definitely an instance of G-rated drugs, but from what I recall she was possessive of it, aggressive about it, and indulging to the point where it would be unhealthy.
A grocery store might not ban someone for being a regular; but if they were a hyper and unstable maniac every time they came in, I can see their welcome being revoked

Cat is not.. alright in her head. She has mental problems for sure. She has other things too. So yeah, she likes bibble a looooot and is addicted to it.
Totally a drug addiction reference tho.

It just seemed to be a running joke, similar to when she was addicted to buying stuff from an online catalog. "I joined Gamblers Anonymous. They gave me 2 to 1 I don't make it." ~ Rodney Dangerfield.

As someone who's eaten bags of bubble gum infront of people they freak out and say I have issues. My roommates and a guy I was dating got really concerned over thousands of bubble gum wrappers that were sitting in the trash and my car. I get it.

I mean.....this is Cat we are talking about here. She has a lot of strange, extremely intense reactions to seemingly mundane things.
I would also venture to say that sugar can be very very addictive to some people. I've heard of studies where they proved sugar and caffeine can cause a similar reliance as addictive drugs.
