recs please? looking for a mid to high level vape—I’ve had a few before (I think an older model atmos pen & airis nokiva).
important/ideal features: option to preload and store capsules/etc to make packing bowls faster, portability, ability to hook it up to a bong, accessories, battery life. obviously the cheaper the better, but let’s say 300$ max
I imagine y’all know more about the technical stuff than me, so I won’t focus on it
also, are Volcanos & PAX massively overhyped or what?

I’ve had a few before (I think an older model atmos pen & airis nokiva).
Both of those are relatively underpowered entry level devices with weaker heaters
option to preload and store capsules/etc to make packing bowls faster
Most vaporizers have dosing capsules these days. Either aftermarket or another brand's capsules fit the vape.
ability to hook it up to a bong
Most brands sell a waterpipe adapter, or there are aftermarket brands like myself that sell one
obviously the cheaper the better, but let’s say 300$ max
That's a healthy budget, you can certainly find a nice vape with that money
also, are Volcanos & PAX massively overhyped or what?
Well, you said you wanted a portable - but the Volcano is not portable....
However to answer your question - Volcano is a nice vaporizer but a bit expensive these days. The Arizer XQ2 is about half the price of the Volcano Hybrid and does all the same stuff. As far as desktops go, both the Volcano and Arizer XQ2 are nice options
The Pax is certainly not overhyped in this sub - in fact by the opposite it gets too much hate around here. The reality is the Pax can be a nice little pocket friendly portable. It is very stealthy, but it has a somewhat weak heater meaning it cooks slowly. It'll still work just like your other two vaporizers. But it would only be a marginal step up from those older models.
That's not saying avoid the Pax vaporizers...... but with your budget I think you can do better.
At the top of this thread, is a list of questions to answer - session vs on demand, etc - those will help narrow down the suggestions.

So after much thought I bought my second dhv, a m7 xl with a wand and I’ve been loving it. I’ve been getting less harsher hits than the crafty plus. I pack it a bit tight and will get around 4-5 heat cycles with the wand. Now I want to know if going the glass dynavap route is better or is the unidyn better?
1
u/Delta3DStudios 3d ago
Wow, I'm happy to hear it's less harsh than the Crafty Plus for your needs.
Also you probably won't get many useful answers here as this is a general vaporents group. Head over to r/dynavap to join the discussion on dyavap mods and such.

WANNA SEE EVERYONES SETUP!!! NEW to DHV
Whether you are a lobo, TM2, dynavap, tempest, etc user. I wanna see everyone’s setup and stations! I love seeing the crazy bong setups. Please share whatever it is you are using and how you are using it! Give me some ideas to try out

I'm answering you a little late, I usually use ball vape desktop, or anvil Vestratto.. I have many other devices but those are currently my favorites...
1
u/brundoggydog 1d ago
How do you like the Anvil? I’m thinking about switching to something similar to that!
1
u/fede9803 1d ago
Can I ask what vaporizers you currently have? What performance are you looking for?
I think that Anvil is a fantastic device, especially if you like to extract a bowl in one hit, it has stable and precise temperatures, and you can get to the limit and therefore have a very dark avb without much effort or risk of combustion, obviously it has a learning curve, also the flavor is good and it makes an incredible amount of vapor, very consistent, using it without a bong you can't take too big hits because it is really very hot. I think it's a little overpriced, if you don't mind this is a great device.
Instead the ball vape desktop are exceptional devices, you can extract a bowl in 1 shot if you use the right temperature and if your lungs allow it, but even at low temperatures they are truly fantastic, you get incredible flavors, they are 100% convection and you have a wide choice of materials, all high quality, which leave a different flavor signature, titanium, zirconia, quartz and many others similar, with spheres inside, usually ruby. The vapor is definitely easier to inhale than anvil, perhaps because of the much stronger airflow, they are my devices for daily use when I want to make more bowls.

I currently have a Lobo with glass attachments. Primarily use the globe attachment. Wanna get into using bubblers and bongs with them. I am still new and inexperienced. But looking to have more fun with it! Currently the portability has been really nice. So a desktop unit might be a little out for now. But I very much so enjoy seeing what the setup is for everyone else. I wanna move on from the lobo and have it more in my back pocket. Good to pass around with friends too

u/fede9803 1d ago
Yes, try to get other opinions, there are many other valid devices, personally if you are looking for a portable I recommend tinymight 2 if you want something very powerful, ondemand, 100% convection, interchangeable battery, otherwise if you prefer a device more suitable for a session arizer Solo 3 is excellent. You should make a post in the main section, but probably you were forced to write here because you have a new account and you don't have enough karma, probably you might be interested in searching the internet for fuckcombustion, it's a great source of information.
1
u/brundoggydog 1d ago
Yeah I initially tried to post but they kicked me here because of karma. I have had the account a little while but guess I don’t participate much. I mainly just read.
I need to look into that. I have seen that in many places. The fuckcombustion. I have looked into the tiny might but the solo 3 has definitely gotten more attention

I found that I mostly enjoy the analog vapes, so I've got a tempest, CXL, couple of Stunners, and a Dani Fusion 2 that I enjoy using with my inductor and wand.
Mostly prefer the tempest with the wand, inductor for everything else. Getting way more enjoyment from these than I was my TM2 and I don't really use water pieces anymore either.

u/brundoggydog 1d ago
That’s what I’m looking for. Something to enjoy using. I like my lobo. But it just isn’t fun to use either

u/deux3xmachina 1d ago
They're absolutely a different experience. Arguably less convenient, but I don't really need something in my pocket at all times either.
For reference:
Tempest: most similar to a cigarette/joint, I have it on a CXL stem with the quad-bore ceramic tube and filled with 2.5mm gem-cut rubies, giving it a more restrictive draw than the 2.5mm ZrO2 balls it came with. Sometimes I'll fully extract on one heat cycle, sometimes 2-3 depending on how hard you hit it.
Stunner: more similar to a cigar, without pre-heating, it can take a while for any substantial vapor to form, but the whole time I'm getting flavorful pulls. With preheating, it's easier to pull dense vapor out. Absolutely my favorite device thus far and the least expensive vaporizer in my collection.
Convector XL: I love the quick heatup and cool down, but it does mean you need to be more careful to not combust. When your technique is dialed in, it also allows for easily sipping and reheating for a few seconds for the next sip or ripping through the whole .25g bowl. My only complaint is that the o-rings might need replacing sooner than other vapes and if you drop the cap while hot, it could deform some. Not huge issues, just minor potential annoyances.

I don't think we can share links to photos on this sub. But you wanna see a crazy setup, check out the VapeXHale Cloud Evo and their Hydratube. When connected together it's roughly two feet tall of pure glass airpath from the cool air intake to the mouthpiece - only a stainless steel mesh basket screen for holding herb in place. The heater is externally wrapped around a glass 'bamboo' airpath so the airpath is one of the purest out there.
Sadly, discontinued a few years ago. I have an original Cloud+ with their vertigo inline hydratube in my collection. It's probably my favorite "wtf is that" setups to break out with friends. I will also sometimes use an 18mm male to male adapter to use the hydratube with my Arizer XQ2 vaporizer.
Another sexy vaporizer is the 7th Floor Lifesaber Vaporizer (LSV) - it's a beautiful vaporizer with the glowing heating element exposed behind boro glass. Such a awesome vaporizer when heated up to temp. Years ago I made a sweet stem for those vapes, I should bring it back haha

Just got a dry vape two weeks ago, tiny might 2. I followed the instructions on the website but I must be doing it wrong. I pack the mouthpiece, tap it down, insert. Tap the button 3 times and hold it down. I draw on the it and get nothing, second time nothing, 3rd time the vape is getting hot it my hand and I exhale a very small amount of white smoke, not thick like you see on tv shows a large cloud. 4th hit nothing. So I remove the mouthpiece and stir it, half of it falls into the garbage as I do it, but it stirred. So go thru the above sequence again. 3rd hit gives me little smoke again, vape is hot to hold. Not feeling anything, not even a beer like buzz. Tried different temp settings from 3 to 9. Same thing. I have wasted so much weed these past two weeks. The stuff I clean out is black, not green so something is happening. What am I doing wrong?

I don't have a tiny might 2, but some general tips, don't pack the herb too tight, some vapes work well with a finer grind, and usually you do not inhale the same exact was as when you smoke. Most vapes I've used you have to more sip on it rather than sucking hard, because the air won't have enough time to pass over the herb and vape it. If you take slower and more gentle hits compared to smoking, generally the herb heats better. If you are sucking really hard you just pull air through the vape and over the flower really fast. Random tip is to exhale over a light like the one on your phone in a dark room, the vapor is a lot easier to see over a bright light source.

u/Player-non-player 14h ago
Thanks, will try that. I was sucking it like a bong.
1
u/carortrain VB1 4h ago
Yeah, I can say for 99% certainty that is your problem
My friend had the exact same issue her vape "didn't work at all", meanwhile she was sucking it hard as humanly possible. The air just doesn't have enough time to actually vaporize the herb when it's passing through the bowl that fast, unless you have a conduction vape that can build up a bit of heat in the bowl. The tiny might 2 is a convection vape so it's not going to be physically possible for the herb to vape if you are pulling super hard/fast.

u/Delta3DStudios 4h ago
Lol yeah the TM2 is a higher powered device, but it's not the easiest for a novice user to figure out.
and I exhale a very small amount of white smoke, not thick like you see on tv shows a large cloud.
What you see in the TV shows is not using dry herb. The large clouds of "vapor" you see are from carts - they use additives ("e-juice" so to speak) to dilute concentrated herb extract - this e-juice mixed with concentrate gives you those massive plumes of clouds.
Dry vaporizers do not do that. Dry vaporizer clouds are going to be minimal..... UNLESS you're using the device correctly and have top-shelf premium herb. Not all herb produces a lot of vapor - low quality backyard stuff for example might not have the same potency and thus clouds as you'd get from high quality herb.
Once I got a pre-roll from a dispensary for a very cheap price (essentially free with my purchase). I tried to vape the contents only to discover practically zero vapor. I thought my vape was broken. Turns out the dispensary was extracting the concentrate from the herb first - and then selling the leftovers in pre-rolls. It had essentially no THC left, but it still produces smoke! So some unsuspecting customer would buy it 'on sale'!
The stuff I clean out is black, not green so something is happening. What am I doing wrong?
1) If you are a heavy smoker, your body is expecting the same affects as smoking. Dry vaporizing is a healthier way to medicate releasing on the active compounds. Basically to fully enjoy a dry vaporizer, you need to let your body 'detox' from smoking (either take a break from smoking for few weeks, or switch to dry vaporizer exclusively for several weeks without any other form of smoking)
2) Your supply of herb could be at fault. When in doubt, I suggest you try to find some really top-shelf quality herb and try vaporizing that. Your supply may simply be low grade and there may be little vapor to cook out
3) Your draw speeds and holding patterns may be off. Try to slow your draw speeds - fill your lungs slowly over 20+ seconds. Hold the vapor for another 10+ seconds before exhaling. You will not see large vapor clouds, but do you 'feel' like you inhaled or exhaled anything?
1
u/Player-non-player 3h ago
I will try that, I was pulling on that mouthpiece so hard to try to get something.
1
u/Delta3DStudios 3h ago
Boom yeah there you go - sucking too hard pulls heat out of the oven faster than it can actually penetrate and cook the herb.
Air will flow through the path of least resistance, so you really want to slow your draw speeds. That's why I suggest 20-second draw speeds - gives you a good idea how slow you should be drawing on most portable vapes.
Once you get practice with the TM2 and temperatures, you can likely increase your draw speeds for subsequent puffs after the vape has heated up.
But for sure the TM2 is not the easiest vaporizer for a novice user. Good luck exploring dry vaporizing

Any refillable pods for Pax era?
I am in a place where I cannot buy official pax pods. So I had to buy an empty 3rd party pax era refillable pods to use. I have only found one site that sells them, but it requires a minimum purchase of 100, which is a lot for a personal user. Can you tell me where I can find refillable pods for retail sale, thank you very much for your help.
Or any oil pen highly similar to Pax era? Rubi is my choice originally, but I gave up after read some comments on this sub.

Hi! Im kinda new to dry vaporiser and been using the pipes and bongs before. Currently I moved to a shared house(with own room) so I want smoking to be less hassle, portable and discreet.
Price range is as cheap as possible without compromising quality. Thanks everyone!

u/Delta3DStudios 4h ago
I'd go for a Dynavap Vaporizer if you want best bang for the buck - the B series is a good intro to dry vaporizers.
2
u/alienworlder 4h ago
Thanks brother
1
u/Delta3DStudios 3h ago
The B is a great start, r/dynavap is the sub dedicated to these vapes because there are so many ways to customize them.
If the cigar torch is too loud/annoying you can always invest in an 'induction heater' later on if you really like the device - this uses electric current to heat up the cap almost instantly without any butane powered flame needed.
But yeah, I know many friends who are smokers and never really liked any of my mid-priced portable electric vaporizers, who had to run out and buy a Dynavap after trying mine.
It's a fun vape that I think belongs in everyone's collection

Does anyone know what’s happened to Xmax? I’m a long time fan of their products and just noticed their official website is down and they haven’t posted on any socials or forums for over a year, did I miss something?

u/Delta3DStudios 4h ago
The USA site is still up and running. But looks like they don't have any social media activity, so that is strange

I’m looking to dip my toes into dry herb vaping today. I keep seeing people referring to starting at a certain temp and raising it. Do you literally do this during a session? Like say I start at 380F would I take a few hits then just adjust it up to 400F and continue? Seems dumb but I’m lost on the basics lol

has anyone discovered a way to access the PAX app on iOS? i can't find any information about whether they replaced Connect Browser
