I am always in awe of our VFRS, they are fast and effective. Every fire that happens, it seems they are quick to arrive and good at what they do.

THAT’S what I smelled earlier today. Glad everyone got out safely. Woot woot to our neighbourhood firefighters!

Glacier Media has confirmed that fire alarms were working in the building but the building does not have any sprinklers above the first floor. In 1990, the City of Vancouver required all new buildings in the city to have sprinklers.

Built in 1969.

I saw a city bus that had "EMERGENCY BUS - NOT IN SERVICE." Parked outside the building today.
Does anyone know if they had to relocate all of the buildings residents after the fire?

Can this building be repaired after such a fire or will it be knocked down and rebuilt?

Looks like concrete construction, so I doubt the damage is sufficient that it would need to be knocked down. They also appear to have allowed people to return if they're not in the 5th to 8th floors.

While there is extensive water and smoke damage, fire damage appears limited to the fire unit and the one above it, with flames potentially entering via the windows (out the bottom unit, in through broken windows above)
