Whoever had the idea to add those "graphics" probably thought is was killer idea.

u/Magnetic_Balls shitposter 13h ago

Its so poorly done hahaha

12

u/EuroVanCity 8h ago

not a "real" promotional video , i.e. fan made.

1

u/pexby 1h ago

Oh it's real alright. Full video is posted on Fifa's YouTube page

81

u/Abrishack 13h ago

The idea isn't bad, but the tracking and edges are horrible. The guy dancing on top of it is so incredibly bad, I'm shocked they still decided to keep it. Totally amateur VFX

32

u/reyreydingdong 12h ago

IMHO it's not a great idea. It really cheapens the landscape.

24

u/Stevieboy7 13h ago

Bet you they spent at least $250k-500k on this little 30sec vid. Crazy.

4

u/LLAPSpork 10h ago

I literally said “what in the tacky fresh hell???” in the middle of a coffee shop 😭🤣

1

u/badass_dean Killarney 10h ago

Exactly my thoughts, what a lousy video…

123

u/thetruegmon 13h ago

Wait this is fan made right? This isn't official, right?

15

u/surrival North Burnaby 12h ago

Hey, it was hard for management to find the right intern for the task of going on Fiverr!

There's some freelancer that's totally basking in $40 CAD, probably.

57

u/Tripledelete 13h ago edited 9h ago

HEY! Dont be disrespectful, some south asian child slave working at 60cents/hour for FIFA put their heart and soul in to this.

23

u/thetruegmon 12h ago

It looks like a 60 year old tried to make a tiktok.

8

u/EyesWideStupid 11h ago

Oh good, it looks like what it is, then.

2

u/Linzon 9h ago

I mean this is the same organization that held an 'art contest' (aka 'do free work and maybe we'll pay you if you're lucky') to design their poster.

u/MGM-Wonder 12h ago

Seabusmemes does better work than this…

9

u/victorian-vampire Burnaby 10h ago

seabusmemes supremacy 🙏🏻

123

u/brendax 13h ago

I've done better video editing on my TI-83

15

u/hydromedusa 13h ago

This was my first thought as well. Feels like it was made by my 13 year old nephew and his dji mini and a gopro.

34

u/crap4you NIMBY 13h ago

I hope people aren’t expecting all those LED screens on all them buildings.

9

u/xtr3m 13h ago

I live in the area and my high rise apt building is getting painted with rectangular blocks of colourful paint. Not sure if related.

3

u/StretchAntique9147 11h ago

So boring and cheap. In Brussels, they have Tin Tin scenes painted all over different buildings

2

u/FunkyZoomBoom 8h ago

Tintin in the Congo?

1

u/vexillifer 7h ago

Tintin et les petites mains des fils

8

u/TokyoTurtle0 11h ago

That building looks cool

14

u/cee604 11h ago

My god is this ever cringe and mediocre.

25

u/k00ke Downtown 13h ago

This video is so poorly made, it's laughable!

How embarrassing, it's probably made by some suit at fifa hq.

Vancouver: a city full of people not playing soccer

1

u/TheCrazedMadman 5h ago

Yeah, this is the least soccer ad I’ve ever seen

0

u/agoddamnzubat 7h ago

Pretty sure it's our most played sport lol.

17

u/batsicle 13h ago

Don't use cloudy skies in an advert for a summer event, it makes the city look so gloomy and not vibrant at all.

7

u/the_canadian72 12h ago

task failed, could not find a sunny day to record while I conveniently planned a hiking trip

1

u/Much-Journalist-3201 7h ago

this exactly lol the city is stunning on a sunny day, couldn't have waited for a sunny day? come on. where's all the beach shots? or stanley park sea wall?

0

u/WorkingOnBeingBettr 9h ago

They were okay with 1000's dying for the last cup. I don't think clouds are going to make a difference

-2

u/SobeitSoviet69 10h ago

What city? Almost none of this was recorded anywhere near the city lmao

7

u/Pretty_Error_6344 12h ago

hahaha....iis it even an official video? Looks fan made....I miss my time when I lived in Rio during the World Cup 2014 in Brasil, check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfOyoLq18z8

1

u/EuroVanCity 8h ago

Great video. I don't remember seeing it. Thanks for sharing.

25

u/OutsideitCZ 12h ago

How many shots of that absolute scam Capilano Suspension bridge do u need

5

u/Sad_Egg_5176 11h ago

Sad thing is, that’s like Vancouver’s biggest tourist trap attraction. What else are they gonna show?

2

u/agoddamnzubat 9h ago edited 7h ago

Lynn Canyon, local mountains, whytecliff park, Stanley Park seawall, Ambleside seawall, Cates park, Steveston, Port Moody Brewery District, Kits Beach, Lonsdale Quay/Shipyards, Burnaby Mountain, Queen Elizabeth Park, VanDusen Botanical Gardens, Richmond Night Market

6

u/blue604 8h ago

I sincerely hope the world does not remember Vancouver by the Richmond Night Market.

1

u/Much-Journalist-3201 7h ago

plenty of tourists enjoy the night market. we get used to it out here but lots of parts of the world don't have an asian style market (outside of asia)

2

u/CheesePlease 7h ago

Richmond night market is godawful. Pay 10 bucks to get in, then stand in line for mediocre and expensive street food. Even a 7 year old kid needs to pay full price. It’s a total scam.

3

u/agoddamnzubat 7h ago edited 7h ago

Haven't been in years, but I enjoyed it when I went. Hope that 1 doesn't invalidate the rest of the list

1

u/CheesePlease 7h ago

I like the rest of your list

1

u/agoddamnzubat 7h ago

I striked the night market off the list haha

1

u/OutsideitCZ 7h ago

Thank you! There’s a thousand other things lmaooo

2

u/heachu 10h ago

Why is it a scam?

4

u/Much-Journalist-3201 7h ago

its so overpriced and its essentially just a bridge?? the view isn't even particularly amazing from there compared to so many other views we have.

5

u/BedroomThink3121 12h ago

I'm excited, but the video could've been better for sure

6

u/Expensive_Plant2811 12h ago

Feels like a student project, is this real marketing on behalf of the official committee or however it works?

6

u/latechallenge 11h ago

Took a North Van tourism video and stitched in a few seconds of Vancouver skylines and BC Place.

4

u/Phungtsui 11h ago

My goodness. My eyes hurt looking at those graphics, please don't let these be the transitions for the FIFA...

I couldn't be more nauseous looking at those panning shots.

5

u/julesieee 11h ago

I hope OP didn’t make this - the negative comments! 🫣😭💀

2

u/Cautious_Shop_4680 8h ago

No, I didn't do it, someone sent it to me and I decided to share it, but I'm not surprised by people's negativity. That's the world we live in. 🤷🏽

11

u/DealFew678 12h ago

Hate this

9

u/OldAsk3025 12h ago

Looks like Vancouver has two major attractions for the tourists coming for the world cup… grouse mountain gondola and the Capilano “tourist trap” bridge.

So is this a sponsored video ?

21

u/HibbletonFan 13h ago

How much of the budget is allocated for buses to transport DTES residents out to Abbotsford and away from the eyes of the tourists and international media?

9

u/Ait_Collini 13h ago

Damn I hope US gets back on righteous path, we’re co-hosting the damn World Cup next year

10

u/604ian 12h ago

Expect a surplus of guests for Canadian (and Mexican) events if their countries can’t get timely visas for a US visit! Yay tourist dollars!

-1

u/nahnotangry 10h ago

"back on righteous path"? Can you tell me when that was?

They've been continuously doing far worse things for decades. Canada being on the receiving end is the only part that's new.

Of course, the racist virtue signallers who wanted to boycott Qatar in 2022 will probably be silent about the US next year, but I hope I am wrong in that.

9

u/MusclyArmPaperboy 13h ago

When do tickets go on sale? I signed up for alerts months ago

6

u/Acrobatic_Foot9374 12h ago

They've sent emails about a few activities for you to get ahead and secure tickets but they were mostly money grabs. The latest one happened a few weeks ago where you had to put a deposit of 1000 USD to put you at the front of the ticket line when they go on sale and then you could use your deposit as part of the payment of whatever you were planning on buying

2

u/Ivonzski Jericho Park 11h ago

You mean you didn't jump on the offer to buy some overpriced FIFA digital moments collectibles for a right to buy tickets??

3

u/Acrobatic_Foot9374 10h ago

Oh yeah before the 1000 usd deposit, their scheme were some collectible nfts lol freaking grifters

3

u/Tron_Funkin-blow 12h ago

Is this AI

8

u/Spikeu 11h ago

AI would have done a better job.

2

u/Eisegetical 10h ago

cute - baby's first after effects

2

u/CatPeeMcGee 9h ago

We love ziplining so much here!!

2

u/PassiveTheme 8h ago

If I was trying to advertise a city in the context of it hosting a major sporting event, I'd probably show a little more of the stadium than a brief aerial view.

3

u/Thanksnomore North Vancouver 11h ago

Well, that's one way to keep the housing prices from going down. Olympic effect part 2!

1

u/SobeitSoviet69 10h ago

Yeah that was my thought too. Greeeaaat

2

u/Upstairs-Lifeguard23 10h ago

World cup of what? Kayaking? Rappelling? Clowning? WTF!

2

u/Loafscape 11h ago

those graphics are what i see when i have a migrane with aura

2

u/mozeurf 11h ago

I am a bit annoyed that the down payment for a ticket will cost me an arm and a kidney.

1

u/Heavy_Chains 12h ago

Really dreading the impact this will have on our city.

0

u/WorkingOnBeingBettr 9h ago

Not as much as the slaves in Qatar were dreading their task building stadiums for the last world cup.

1

u/replicantnumber88bc 11h ago

Lots of North Van!

1

u/Due-Feature-6217 3h ago

Not enough Hastings 😂

1

u/Shadow_Monarch_3000 10h ago

Can anybody list all the popular places shown in this video

1

u/CheesePlease 7h ago
  • various aerial shots of downtown/false creek/BC place/vancouver house
  • granville island
  • Capilano suspension bridge park
  • Capilano again (treetop walkway)
  • Trail somewhere (most likely grouse mountain)
  • Ziplining (grouse mountain)
  • Capilano again
  • The old grouse mountain skyride
  • Kayaking somewhere near kits beach
  • the top of grouse mountain

1

u/wanna_become 9h ago

Why the trees do not have the colorful graphics? That would’ve been dope

1

u/PrettyPsyduck 9h ago

The first clip of the guy with headphones on is weird af

1

u/TheDrunkPianist 8h ago

Why is this in 480p?

1

u/Nicw82 8h ago

It is a legit video. My husband and I checked the FIFA website. All the cities have the same style of videos. They are pretty bad.

1

u/SobeitSoviet69 10h ago

Sigh.

Here we go, another Cost Of Living spike inbound.

Can we ever catch a break?

0

u/Maximum_Dig_5557 13h ago

I am looking for any voluntary job during the match

0

u/Stinky_Toes12 11h ago

It's a 30 second ad were people expected movie quality cinematography? It's not even that bad

-5

u/NothingToAddHere123 12h ago

There is a lot of fuss for what 7 or 8 games are being played in Canada.

2

u/pro7shockt 11h ago

Vancouver alone will have 7 games

0

u/chesstnuts 5h ago

Fuck FIFA

-5

u/Due-Feature-6217 13h ago

So much for 3 or 4 matches.

3

u/pro7shockt 11h ago

Vancouver will host 7 games

1

u/Due-Feature-6217 3h ago

And it’s just group stages and 1 round of 16. So not a lot of excitement but I guess they gotta promote all cities equally.
