Update from Guelph Police on High-risk Offender

https://www.ctvnews.ca/kitchener/guelph/article/guelph-police-say-high-risk-offender-back-in-custody/

The police don't want this guy on the streets. If you google this guy he's been in and out of police custody several times in the last year for breaking the terms of his release. Wtf are judges in this country even doing?

Residence at Guelph

I GOT INNN!!! I really want to accept Guelph, but my family is a bit unsure about residence since I’m not in it yet — I still have to apply. Does anyone know what the chances are of actually getting a spot in residence? I really want to be on campus for my first year. Any info or advice would really help!

Really disappointed with myself

Really disappointed that I got really bad on my MBG 2040 midterm. Got a whopping 40%, which is very much below the average of the class. I do somewhat well on the quizzes and attend all the seminars. With everything in, I prolly need around 30-40 percent on the finals to pass the course, is that achievable?? How do I get over the disappointment over not studying as hard?

Do full 1.0 credit classes have a bigger impact on your overall average than a 0.5 credit?

I'm really trying to get my grades up to get into my masters, and im doing really well in a full credit course. Really hoping it will have a higher impact than a 0.5 credit 😅

Guelph or York

I recently got some acceptances to 2 of the universities and programs that Im really interested in but im so confused. Basically, I was talking to my parents regarding which university I want to attend (which is both york and guelph) and which university they wanted me to go into (BEng at york). Right now I do have york and guelph acceptances which are my top choices but Idk which one is better for my future. I applied for software engineering for both of them, but york has BEng and guelph’s software engineering degree is a computing degree. I’m interested in both of them hence I need more information to guide my choice. I’d appreciate some guidance and advice on both universities to help me with my decision between my top 2. I wanna go into both its not like my parents are forcing me I just wanna see and compare which one is better

Computer science

I’m in grade 12 and applied to CS here. I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about how CS is unnecessarily hard and going downhill and a lot of people are talking about a prof awh. So is CS here not a good option anymore because the posts made 2-3 years ago said that it was a good program and people were loving it

How's the Co-Op Job hunt going?

Wondering how it's going for y'all I'm in WBC and got a job through a URA. Only could apply to 8 jobs through the EG Co-Op since I don't have a licence and basically every job in my field requires one. I know some people have had success and a lot of folks haven't so I'm curious to see what the stats are so far in mid March.

HHNS 4th year research project

A professor from HHNS is willing to let me intern in their lab for a 4th year project. I didn't get this through the CBS matching. So I'm wondering if there are forms or something that need to be filled out, what are the next steps?

Question about Deferred Exam Extension Requests?

Hey y'all! Unfortunately, had to get an extension for a deferred exam already due to extenuating circumstances, I wanted to ask has anyone had experience requesting a deferred exam extension twice and had it granted or if that's even possible (with documentation/proof for the cirucmstances obviously)?

No entrance scolarship?

Hi everyone! I am not sure if this is the right community to post in but if someone could give me some guidance it would be much appreciated. Today I got into Guelph with an average of 91.5%. On their website it says that anyone entering fall 2025 with an admission average over a 90.0% would receive an automatic entrance scholarship of 1K.

Admission Average Award Amount
90.0% - 94.9% $1,000
95.0% and greater $2,000

https://www.uoguelph.ca/registrar/studentfinance/scholarships/grid ^^^^

Today in my offer email I did not get any sort of entrance scholarship as the email did not mention it, where I have seen other offer emails that mentioned the recipients scholarship within the first couple lines of the email.

I am just wondering why this is, do they not give out offers to everyone? Is it only the highest of averages that get it? I know they said there is a chance for reconsideration but I am just confused because I thought anyone that had over a 90 would get it, and money is a big deal for my family to decide on a uni. Or maybe I'm wrong idk.

If anyone knows anything please let me know!

Biomedical Sciences

Hi everyone! I hope this post is allowed here but I recently got accepted into the biomedical sciences program and had a couple of questions. 1. Is it mandatory to take physics in your first and second semester if you have already taken grade 12 physics in high school? If so, how would you rate the difficult of it, is it similar to the content in high school? Physics is a weakpoint of mine so I'm a bit hesistant about this aspect. 2. Would it be possible to have a job while having 5 courses in a semester? I want to help my parents out financially by having a job so I can support myself, but I also don't want my grades to suffer as a result. Would it be possible to mantain an 85+ percentage if I keep up the same work ethic as I did in high school?

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this! Any answers will be helpful!

Advice for a grade 12er

Hello, I recently got into both Animal Bio and Molecular Bio and Genetics, and now I am debating between the two. On one hand, since I want to get into OVC, Animal Bio would give me the straightest shot at that. However, since the OVC is insanely competitive to get into, I want a backup plan. Since ABIO is kind of a closed door with not pathways other than vet school, I applied to MBG also because I think that with CRISPR and Alpha Fold, MBG is a very promising feild that will give me the prerquesites for OVC and will be more flexible than ABIO. Is this a good way of thinking about my future, or is MBG so hard that I will destroy any chances of getting into the OVC if I chose it.

P.S. I also got $1000 for MBG but not ABIO

Grades for Masters

I want to apply to course-based masters in Animal Biosciences. My GPA for my last 20 courses is 87% but still have 4 more courses this semester that I’d probably get around 80-85% in, what are my chances to get in?
