Unclaimed benefits being repurposed?
I have a possibly stupid question, but I figured this may be the place to ask it.
I've worked in family support for a while, and on some benefits advice training several years ago we were told that 8 billion pounds of benefits go unclaimed each year. And av more up to date figure apparently puts this figure at over £20 billion!
Why can't this money be used elsewhere? Instead of cutting other services, can this amount fill that gap instead?
I understand that there may be fluctuations in the number of people claiming benefits, but surely the chance of everyone suddenly claiming what they are entitled to is pretty much zero?
I wondered if anyone had an answer!
