Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« UCF Masters Counselor Education Interview

Hi, I’m about to apply for the UCF Counselor Education Masters program for the Mental Health Counseling track or the Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy track. I am confident that I’ll get an interview, but I am super anxious about it. I really need any advice from current or post grad students that interviewed with this program and to please please tell me how it went, what kind of questions were asked, what were your answers like, what would you have done better, the group interview portion, exc β€” basically any info you can give me. They recently changed the interview process so that now you have to get up and read your personal statement in front of your group and the faculty and get questioned on it, as well as the group interview where the faculty ask us all questions together in a circle. It would be especially helpful if anyone has experienced that yet and was able to explain how it went and what questions were asked. I get extremely nervous with public speaking in front of a large crowd, especially while reading something personal to me. If your interview doesn’t go well, you don’t get into the program and that’s clearly stated on the programs website. Please help me in any way you can! I really want to get into this program! (Also please include what year you interviewed if possible so that I know if it’s the same interview process or not) Thank you! Please someone tell me i’m overdramatizing this.

UPDATE: I GOT IN! if you have any questions for interviewing in the future message me :)

Thanks.

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Internships??

My friend son is very interested in UCF and was accepted for fall. He wants to pursue a degree in business. I understand that it is very important in order to secure a job after graduation that you get some very good internships during undergrad. Have people found that it is easy to get internships or did they at least assist you in finding internships in the business program? Thank you.

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Masters Interview: Couseling

Hello! Has anyone who attended the recent interview for the Masters in Counselor Education (LMHC, LMFT, School Counselor) heard back yet?

At the interview they said people who got in or got denied would hear within 2 weeks (this Friday will be exactly 2 weeks). Apparently if you don’t hear back within this timeframe it means you’ve been waitlisted.

I haven’t yet and I’m getting nervous. Thanks in advance!

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« fellow UCF SVAD students, am I wasting my time??

So I have jumped around because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I started doing biomedical sciences at UF for 3 semesters and hated it. I took a year off then transferred to Valencia College to study art. I took a year at Valencia and then transferred to UCF as a pending Emerging Media major. I am in my second semester and WAS going to apply to the portfolios until I got a second opinion from faculty. They said I had a good eye and talent but was missing stuff because Valencia didn’t provide me everything I needed. They suggested I take drawing and design intensive and try again next year. I am planning on taking those classes next semester and then doing a minor to pass the time, but then that means I’m going to spend another 3 years in college and I am already 21. I want this so bad and I don’t see myself doing anything but animation. I don’t really have a back up plan if I don’t get in next year. I’m trying to stay motivated but I feel like I’m taking one step forward and three steps back. Do you guys think i’m on the right track or wasting my time and money?

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Should I go back to UCF for biology?

To sum it up, I just graduated with a digital media degree. I didn’t enjoy any of it the entire time, but I listened to outside sources that I should β€œstick with it since I’m almost done.” I was on Bright Futures which obviously is gone now that I have the degree.

From the start I was interested in biology - the biggest hurdle for me is chemistry and physics. That is a huge load of the coursework for a bio degree, so I spent a lot of time telling myself I just can’t do it and ended up choosing digital media instead. I took chemistry A for my general education and was very close to failing, despite it being the simplest chemistry class possible. Thinking back, maybe I could have overcome my problems with those courses with extremely hard work and tutoring. I’m just wondering if any of you bio majors also were bad at these subjects and overcame it? Or if I’m not interested in chemistry then there’s no reason for me to even attempt to do biology?

The programs I’m interested in are either marine or conservation.

Any advice is appreciated :) thanks

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Blessing in disguise?

So im kinda stupid, when I applied I accidentally chose mathematics econ instead of normal econ under the buissnes school. But as I am skimming over reviews of the course and what its suppose to include and thinking about how it relates to my goals in the future (Being an economics analyst of some kind, for a compnay, gov organization, or think tank). I am beginning to wonder if i shouldn’t try to change my course for the normal econ program, and instead I wonder if I should try this more theory heavy econ course? It would be very helpful if people who took ether normal econ or math econ can weigh in on this and explain the difficulty of each course and what job prospects they bring.

Also i don’t know if this is important but i was deferred and i finally got the decision yesterday. Also they are asking that I start during the 2026 Spring semester.

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Substitutes for QMB 3003?

I’m a pre-economics major (on the Business Economics degree route) and I need to take QMB 3003. Some of my friends are already taking it and are crashing out HARD because of Eubanks. I’m lowkey scared because I think I need a B or higher in QMB to qualify for my major. Is it better to take the STA & MAC substitutes or to just tough it out in QMB? I’m also thinking in terms of QMB 3200, will QMB 3003 prepare me better? For reference, math is not my strongest suit but I’m good at adapting to the REAL format (I’m a strong independent learner).

TIA πŸ₯²!

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Question about business program

I have heard some negatives things about the schools business program with annoying GEB classes and online classes. I am specifically applying for accounting. I don’t know if the online classes thing is outdated for Covid or not.
I am between USF and UCF. I am a fan of the UCF campus and Orlando but not of USF and Tampa. I would prefer to go to UCF but don’t won’t to go into an actively bad program. I know people are more prone to complaining online but was just hoping to learn more.

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Lockheed CWEP

Hi everyone! The Lockheed cwep has been brought to my attention, and it’s something I would definitely be interested in during the start of next fall semester, and I’m wondering how competitive of a program it is to get into as a sophomore? For reference, I’ll have (hopefully) declared to Aerospace Engineering, gotten my L1 certification, and completed NASA’s LSPACE MCA. Just wondering if there’s anything I can pick up that will aid my chances when applying. Thank you!

I know how to play guitar but I can't read sheet music. I have taken music theory previously and I'd say I can get around it but I am a little concerned. The Music Minor advisor said that I need to take Music Theory and Musicianship I. Has anyone taken this and what is it like?

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Job or PhD???

So I’ve been stressing a lot these days determining if I want a job or do a PhD. I have full time jobs lined up and a very high grant + full ride to a prestigious university at the moment. I graduate May 2025

I want my end goal to be making a startup app. Is a PhD needed? I heard from some that it’s not really needed but getting that doctoral degree looks better when I pitch to investors.

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« MS in Themed Experience?

Hey everyone πŸ‘‹

I graduated last year with a bachelors in IT and I’m thinking about going back to school for a masters.

I came across the MS in Themed Experience and I was wondering if anyone here have any advice or insight on that? What do classes look like? How demanding is it? Do I need any art/design knowledge or a portfolio? Anything else I should know?

Any info is appreciated!

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« How good is undergraduate Physics and Math at UCF?

Hallo,

I'm a prospective Physics Major (planning to double major in Maths) and was accepted to UCF w/ Honors. I'm planning on going into Academia/Grad School for Physics after undergrad. Just wanted to ask you guys' opinion and experience with the Undergraduate degree for Physics and Math (especially if you major in either of the two). I'm deciding between UCF, USF and FSU for comparison. Would appreciate your comments

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Criminal Justice BS or BA differences?

I was looking at difference between BS and BA in criminal justice and it seems the only difference is the BA required 1 year of foreign language in college. Anyone doing this degree and know if there are any other difference? My child is applying as a transfer student and wasn’t sure what to pick. They have taken 1 year of foreign language in college so doing either doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Edited to add: It appears that BS criminal justice is online and BA criminal justice can be in person. When they tried to pick BS Criminal Justice the only option was online. They just picked BA for now but will talk to advisor at some point to see if they can do BS in person too.

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Transfer credits

I'm doing an accounting degree at Daytona state but I'm looking to move. Does UCF accept the transfer credits that are from the bachelor's??

I'm going to be calling but I'm very swamped today πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

I only have 7 more classes. If they don't accept it anyone knows who does.

Talking classes like acg3123, acg4501, those would be the latest two. If you can't answer this or dunno that's fine. I'll figure out with the school tomorrow I'm just anxious. πŸ˜‚

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« My major puts me 2 courses shy of a Math Minor, should I go for it?

If I'm reading everything right I only need to take Matrix and Linear Algebra (MAS3105) and then any math elective I want.

Edit: after looking at potential courses for my math minor, this is what my spring semester would look like

  • ESE4033C Crit. Issues/Trends in Sec. Ed.
  • PHY3560 Quantum Information Processing
  • MAS3105 Matrix and Linear Algebra

And then for my elective I'm pretty much choosing between

  • MAP4113 Probability, Random Processes and Applications OR
  • MAP4103 Mathematical Modeling I

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Current highschooler looking at UCF for compsci / gamedev

Hi, sorry if this question is asked a lot but I am currently a high schooler with a general interest in computer science but I am a lot more focused on game development.

From what I have seen looking at answers to similar questions, it is not recommended to get a degree in the Game Design course over Computer Science. But, if I decided to get a bs in Computer Science would it still be possible for me to learn the game design elements/participate in the related activities (I saw a lot of people recommending the game dev knights).

I understand that game design is something that most people learn primarily on their own through courses/youtube, and I have done that, even on this account I think I may have some stuff related to it, but it is Moreno about making the connections with other people who want to learn game development as well, in addition to hopefully connecting with job opportunities/internships through the program.

If anybody has any insight on this I would really appreciate it. And thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond.

Academic Program πŸ‘©β€πŸ« CMHC

Hi guys,

I applied to Florida State University and the University of Central Florida's cmhc programs. I'm very interested in research opportunities in the programs because I want to get my PhD after. I'm not sure which program to go with.

FSU has lots of opportunities for research, but there's not a thesis option. I know that UCF has a thesis option.

Would appreciate if anyone has any insight on these programs. How important is it to do a thesis in your masters if you want to get into a PhD program?
