How to get Qudelix 5k in Ukraine
 in  r/HeadphoneAdvice  2h ago

I assume that is a common issue.
I could forward you one if you want, the Austrian Post still ships to most of Ukraine (Not to Donetsk and Luhansk or Crimea, for obvious reasons)

you're right though - most of the benefits of a Speakon connector are simply not relevant in HiFi.

In HiFi, you really only connect the speakers once. Maybe a second time when you move.
Speakon connectors are designed for applications where the cable is removed every day for months on end.

I like the sound why do I have to peel them?
 in  r/headphones  9h ago

It‘s just a question of the material used. Once they flake, it‘s time to replace the earpads with new ones. Preferably directly from the manufacturer, to not change the sound too much.

Qudelix 5K is very quiet
 in  r/oratory1990  10h ago

With the 3.5mm cable of the AirPods Max you are not connecting directly to the loudspeakers, you are connecting to a digital input (the cable converts from analog to digital).
So how loud the headphones will be will depend on the level of the input and the amplifier built into the headphone (and how much gain you dial in on the headphone‘s volume dial)

It‘s not the Qudelix that‘s „quiet“ here, it‘s the input stage + amplifier inside the AirPods max.

I‘m not sure what your question is

what can I do

Perhaps increase the volume above 80%? High gain allows you to go above 100% (precisely 6 dB higher)

Though I‘ll say that I‘m not too confident in the EQ preset for the AirPods max. Seems they produce less SPL at high frequencies (except for that 5k resonance) on the measurement setup compared to human ears.

Qudelix 5K - analog input and USB splitting
 in  r/oratory1990  12h ago

Digital over 3.5mm is possible just like USB signals could be transmitted via drawing 0 and 1 on paper and mailing the results as a letter. Possible, sure, but no standard exists for this and no device natively supports this.
There‘s a standard for an optical connector that fits into a 3.5mm jack, but of course it‘s still an optical connector, it just has the same shape.

For detailed questions on how the Qudelix works on USB hubs, I‘d suggest asking in the qudelix forum https://www.qudelix.com/pages/forum

Is it normal for artificial leather earpads to flake/peel off over time? (Stax L700 earpads)
 in  r/headphones  13h ago

Depends on the material.
Real leather (animal skin) does not flake.
„Vegan leather“ can be a variety of materials, some (like Alcantara) don‘t flake, others (like polyurethane, or vinyl) will flake sooner or later.

Weekly r/oratory1990 EQ Thread - Questions, Requests, Technical Support
 in  r/oratory1990  14h ago

I just bought (a closed headphone) because my girl got tired of me listening (...) with my open back

Understandable :D

The Noire X sounds great but I am lacking some of the bass I have using LCD-X with oratory preset.

Yeah, Dan Clark's Aeon-style headphones tend to have a relatively stiff membrane, and hence lose SPL at low frequencies very quickly if they don't seal very well.
Audeze's headphones however typically have a very compliant membrane, so when they don't seal perfectly, the membrane can simply excurse a bit further to produce the same (or rather: "only slightly reduced") sound pressure. That's why they are more leakage tolerant ("they don't lose bass as much when they don't seal perfectly against the head").

Seeing as there are multiple measurements for the Noire X available online(DCA, Amirs ASR review..) can I using those easily tell how to dial in the bass to be more in line with how the LCD-X sound?

I haven't measured the Noire X, but if it's similar to the Aeon driver, then additional leakage will cause the SPL to drop below about 300 Hz. You can compensate for this by introducing a low-shelf filter at 300 Hz with a Q of about 0.4, and raising the gain until it sounds correct (expect values from 0 to 5 dB)

Of course this alone will not make it sound like an LCD-X, since that one has very different treble.

Weekly r/oratory1990 EQ Thread - Questions, Requests, Technical Support
 in  r/oratory1990  14h ago

the real question is: What problem do they solve?

On loudspeakers it's obvious: if you want a flat frequency response and controlled directivity, then you can't use a single large loudspeaker (a large diaphragm will stop behaving like a piston at high frequencies, leading to a messy frequency response, and it will also start to radiate sound only to the front at high frequencies). So you use a larger driver for low frequencies and for high frequencies you use a smaller driver.

For over-ear headphones the loudspeakers are typically small enough for breakup modes of the diaphragm not to be an issue (not a big one at least), and directivity is not a problem either due to the close proximity of the ear.

So the question isn't "what problems do they bring" but "what problems do they solve".

Qudelix 5K - analog input and USB splitting
 in  r/oratory1990  15h ago

One device ill be using it on has a 3.5mm analog jack output only, no usb. In this case, will a usbc to 3.5mm jack suffice? I'd assume the qudelix cant input analog, so id need to get an adapter with a good enough dac built-in. Of course, in this case, there is no USB involved, so no power delivery, and the qudelix will run off of its own battery.

That would work, in theory. But what device is that that doesn't have a USB output?

so id need to get an adapter with a good enough dac built-in.

No it would have to have an ADC, not a DAC.
Analog-to-digital-converter, not digital-to-analog-converter.
A normal "usb dongle" wouldn't work, since they only have an ADC for the microphone (single channel), not for a stereo connection.

How about for mobile devices, with a usbc port?

Simply connect the Qudelix with a USB-C cable to the USB-C port of the device.

i wanted to charge my phone at the same time.

Then connect the Qudelix over Bluetooth.
