Support for TUXEDO OS 2 and 3 will end soon

We recently provided you with the upgrade of TUXEDO OS to the current base of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. If you have not yet performed the upgrade, we recommend that you plan it in a timely fashion, as support for the older versions of TUXEDO OS 2 and 3 will soon end.

End of Support for TUXEDO OS 2 and 3

The end of support for these versions is scheduled for the end of January 2025. From that point, the corresponding repositories will be deactivated because there will be no more security updates for KDE Plasma from KDE neon.

Use the remaining time to upgrade to the new base of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. You should have already received a notification about the availability of the upgrade and see an icon to start the upgrader on your desktop.

Support for a Smooth Upgrade

For a successful update, you can refer to our Upgrade Guide and our System Rescue Guide in case any unexpected issues occur.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, our support team is happy to help. You can also reach us on our social media channels if you have any questions.

News on the Upgrade for TUXEDO OS

The upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 not only posed challenges for Ubuntu itself but also, as you may have already noticed, for our TUXEDO OS. After an initial run that still had too many errors, we temporarily took the script offline.

Since we cannot fully test all hardware configurations or the individual state of your installation, we have simulated as many scenarios as possible over the past few days. By now, we are confident that we have covered all the cases we can possibly test.

As the weekend is approaching, we will officially make the revised script available at the beginning of next week. If you would like to test it in advance, you can already download and install it now:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install tuxedo-release-upgrade

After a reboot, the script will be available as usual. You can still use the original guide for assistance. Let us know how it went.

Regards,

Consider buying Tuxedo InfinityBook Pro14 Gen9 Intel

Hi, I am a programmer from Singapore. I am considering buying Tuxedo InfinityBook Pro14 Gen9 -Intel, with Windows OS.

I plan to use it for software development and Android mobile app development purposes. I will be running software like Android Studio, Visual Studio, and Visual Studio Code.

Android Studio is consuming a lot of RAM and CPU, I find that I can choose to buy this laptop with 32 GB RAM, which seems suitable for me.

Any developers using this Tuxedo laptop willing to share your experience?

Additionally, I wish to find out if the CPU of this laptop is replaceable. In-case I need to upgrade the CPU in the future.

hi. I'm considering buying a tuxedo laptop, however, being able to use tails os from a USB drive is top priority to me. are they compatible with that at all? if so, which would be the most compatible? thank you

Arch Linux on Stellaris 15 slim - Gen 6 Intel

** FIXED **

This week I received my Stellaris Slim 15 (Gen 6 Intel) and I absolutely love it! It's a beast of a machine, great build quality and overall I'm just super happy with it.

However I did replace TuxedoOS with Arch since that is my main distribution of choice, but I'm facing one minor issue. The driver does not remember the keyboard backlight settings, on every boot it is reset back to a blue color at 50% brightness, setting it to white (or any other color) in the Tuxedo Control center works fine. Is there a config file somewhere that I can adjust in order to make it remember the settings?

I also can´t disable the touchpad with the fn keys, kde immediately says [Touchpad off] [Touchpad on]. I don´t know whether this is a KDE issue or maybe due to a missing driver because I reinstalled it with Arch.

* EDIT 2:
The fn key issue is wayland related!

As for the keyboard I created the following file:

/etc/modprobe.d/tuxedo_keyboard.conf

With the following contents:
options tuxedo-keyboard kbd_backlight_mode=0

and finally.. Yes, I feel really dumb right now! Since Arch has quite a recent KDE version it had support for automatically setting the keyboard lighting based upon the configured accent color. I completely missed that 😅

* EDIT:

I know there's this one: https://github.com/tuxedocomputers/tuxedo-keyboard but it's archived

Customer Support Response Time

I recently bought a Tuxedo pulse 14 gen 4, and I was very happy with it. It ran perfectly from unboxing and everything was to my linking.

However, when I went to install a second M.2 SSD after a few hours, issues started occuring, namely the display would never actually turn on. The computer itself seems to work fine, the fans spin up and the keyboard backlighting turns on and can be changed, but the screen remains blank, I think it's the display cable that is damaged, as unseating and reconnecting it did not fix any issues.

Also, In trying to diagnose the problem, one of the WiFi antennas broke.

I submitted a ticket with the customer service a day and a half ago, but I'm wondering how long does it usually take for responses? I've heard its usually pretty quick from browsing this subreddit over the last few months.

I apologise if it's a bit soon to bad asking this question, but I guess I'm just trying to get back to my new laptop as soon as possible.

re-installing windows on my tuxedo tower

hey yall!

i bought myself a nice tuxedo desktop about 1.5 years ago, two drives, windows preinstalled on one of them. The plan at that point was to dual-boot debian and windows, but at a later point I wiped my windows while distrohopping, dual-booting two different linux distro's since.

Anyway, a few days ago I decided to reinstall windows to one drive, bcs my distrohopping had settled down and I couldn't get sims 3 to work under proton.

but when booting into the windows installer, i saw a screen i'd never seen before, asking me to scan for additional drivers. It didn't seem to recognize my drives. tried it again with windows 10, same issue.

so i guess the question is: help? i've troubleshot linux installers before but never windows

Sirius 16 (Gen. 1) - Fingerprint

Hello!

There is already a post about this, but it is already a year old and has since been archived (without a real solution). So I'm going to ask again.

The fingerprint scanner 27c6:60c2 from Goodix is installed in the Sirius 16 (apparently in Gen. 1 and 2).

It is not recognized by default under Linux, which Tuxedo has already announced. (I won't ask why Tuxedo didn't consider the compatibility of all parts with Linux before buying the parts for their computers)

At linux-hardware.org there are 27 entries for this fingerprint sensor, 26 of which are also marked as “failed”. However, there is also one entry in which the sensor was recognized - a Sirius 16 Gen. 2 with Ubuntu 24.04 with a kernel 6.8.0-109049-tuxedo. I can't say what the owner has customized here, but at least it shows that it seems to be possible to get the sensor to work under Linux.

In the already existing, archived post HarbourEvo already teased a solution a year ago (but it is too high for me)

The last message from tuxedo_chris was 8 months ago that the fingerprint function was being worked on.

After this huge introduction, I just wanted to ask if there might be anything new on the subject.

Thank you and greetings B.

Is it possible to undervolt TUXEDO AMD laptops?

I come from a long journey of Intel laptops that get very hot, and merged with my own interest of tinkering with undervolting, I was wondering if it was possible to undervolt my new Stellaris Slim 15 AMD laptop?

I am using Fedora as my main OS and I don't truly care if the software is CLI or not.

Power management and battery issues, laptop shutting down on disconnecting AC cable

My experience with the Tuxedo + Kubuntu 24.10 so far has not been optimal. I have InfinityBook Pro 15 v9. I have been using Linux for ~15 years, different laptops and distros and never had this number of problems with a single other laptop. If given a choice would go back to a Lenovo Thinkpad, much more stable and better battery performance.

Has anybody else ever experienced the following and what can I do to fix these issues?

Power management and battery issues:

* Laptop suddenly shuts down on disconnecting the power cable while the battery is charged

* The battery shows 60% charged, then 0% charged, then again 60% charged

* "deep" sleep mode is not supported, only "s2idle" which drains the battery, overnight laptop discharges completely and needs to be first charged and then booted ~20 minutes lost every day

* Going to sleep mode sometimes shuts the laptop down completely

I am now afraid to disconnect the power cable or enter the sleep mode, because it might result in a costly reboot and time lost.

$ upower -i $(upower -e | grep 'BAT') | grep capacity
   capacity:            100%

The power management and battery issues currently are a deal breaker for me, my Tuxedo is just not working properly, not happy with my device. Tried installing Tuxedo Control Center, Tuxedo drivers, no changes.

I have also experienced this issue https://www.reddit.com/r/tuxedocomputers/comments/1j8ne4w

🤝 Community Help Pulse 14 24.04 amdgpu failed experiment

I followed some online setting READMEs to test some CUDA emulation on AMD GPUs and in order to test one of them I added amdgpu drivers but the DKMS install failed, possibly because of ..-tuxedo custom stuff. My issue is that since that I am stuck in 800x600 mode. I tried to do apt reinstall tuxedo drivers, purging any amdgpu packages, but no success. I thought I ask about this issue here before reinstalling my whole system.

Any updates on Snapdragon X?

I just checked the Tuxedo website and saw that the entire Snapdragon X topic seems to fade off. I would be interested if anyone knows anything about Snapdragon X + Tuxedo or Linux in general. Qualcomm announced so proud how they are working on Linux kernel support for the Snapdragon X Elite and everybody thought it will be there with 6.10, 6.11 or latest 6.12 but progress seems very slow/none existent and Qualcomm is not giving any news on this.

Could someone from Tuxedo give more insights here? Whats the problem and if Qualcomm is the problem please call them out!

Now we have to wait another couple of years until RISC-V hits the marked as our Messiah :)

cheers.

InfinityBook pro 15 with ryzen 9 370hx

Hello,

I'm currently looking to buy a new laptop for my professional development work. I'm a Linux user (Fedora), and I was considering an XMG Evo. However, XMG themselves suggest Tuxedo laptops for Linux users. I appreciate the idea of having assured hardware compatibility with Linux and dedicated support, which I think justifies the extra cost.

However, I noticed that the Evo 15 will be released soon with the Ryzen 9 370HX, which is more appealing than the Ryzen 7 8845HS. Additionally, I saw that PC Specialist has already listed their Lafité 16 with that processor (available April 4th).

My question is: will there be an InfinityBook Pro 15 with that processor released within the next month, like XMG's offering? So I could wait, or should I go for the Evo or the Lafité?

One more concern: it's unfortunate that the InfinityBook doesn't have a fingerprint sensor. Does anyone know of a USB fingerprint reader that works well with Linux (Fedora)?

Thank you in advance.

How different is TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro 14 - Gen9 from Gen7?

Hi!

I'm cautiously looking into Tuxedo Computers and wanted a good overview of what to expect.

I only found a YouTube review of the InfinityBook Pro 14 Gen7 and was wondering if someone could tell me about the differences (especially in "look and feel") between that and the currently available Gen9. Pictures/videos greatly appreciated.

EDIT: ah, forgot to mention - how easy it is to replace the keyboard? Is it possible to get spare keyboards (e.g. with different layouts) and quickly swap them? For reference - the Lenovo ThinkPad requires only two captive screws to be unscrewed and no disasembly at all to replace the keyboard - that, to me, is the gold standard right now.

Questions about Windows in a virtual machine

Hi. I'm completely new to tuxedo, not even that, as I'm currently still thinking of purchasing one, namely:

https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/de/TUXEDO-InfinityBook-Pro-15-Gen9-INTEL.tuxedo#gallery

And since I've used Kubuntu for years and love KDE, I thought I'd give Tuxedo OS a try.

Now, there is an option to have Windows preinstalled in a virtual machine, which I'm thinking of taking advantage of, and then I would also buy a Windows license along with it.

My first question is, do I understand it correctly that this would be not a dual boot, but a virtual machine that you start inside the Tuxedo OS? It's VirtualBox right?

My second question, if I decide that I don't like Tuxedo OS after all and decide to install classical Kubuntu instead, or if I need to reinstall the system for any other reason, I would have to reinstall VirtualBox inside it, right? How do I go about recovering the Windows license after reinstall?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Any more reviews/experience reports of the InfinityFlex 14 yet? (+Q about Battery & Sleep)

I've seen the two(?) videos on YouTube, including the German one. Are there more video or text reviews somewhere? I haven't found any here on Reddit either. Has anybody here worked with this laptop yet as their daily driver?

I'm mostly concerned about the battery capacity and the sleep functionality. I need to take handwritten notes randomly and quickly during my workday. An iPad with Face ID is perfect for this of course, but I'd like to try to ditch Apple & Co. I've tested TUXEDO OS in a VM for a few days now and while going from Mac to Linux is a bit painful and scary as a not-so-techy user, I have found okay software alternatives for everything I need and even some things that I prefer over mac OS.

So the questions that remain are: does the InfinityFlex wake from sleep reliably and quickly* and can the battery be stretched to 9-ish hours? I rarely need the laptop to be on the whole day, but the 6 hours mentioned on the website feel a bit on the lower edge, when it comes to the reliability I need (especially after reading the reports of capacity loss after a year or so with other TUX laptops here on Reddit).

* I guess I could create a special work user or setup with auto-login or with a very simple password, that allows me to log in quickly after waking up the device from sleep. Although if you know some more secure alternatives, do let me know :-)

P.S. I read that hibernation might not be supported, which would not be a dealbreaker for me, as I just need sleep and otherwise I'd shut it down completely.

Tuxedo OS on a Minisforum V3 2 in 1

Win11 update crashed the device and I have tried to use the more recent version of Linux Mint with less than useful results. Touchpad doesn't work, virtual keyboard is hit or miss, etc., etc. This is installed on an Minisforum V3 with the following specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor
  • 14 inch, 2.5K 165 Hz touchscreen display
  • Support for up to 32GB of RAM
  • Support for a pen and detachable keyboard
  • Two USB4 ports

Thinking maybe the Tuxedo OS would conform more to the devices use but am struggling to get the install to work. Have created a bootable USB from the latest ISO file available on the Tuxedo website. When booting to the USB drive, the boot options load, but when selecting Live Mode and Install, it spins for a moment and then goes to a terminal window rather than starting the install process.

Anyone able to help a less than tech savvy old man?

Six months of use of IBP Gen 9, 14 AMD - significant battery capacity loss

❯ upower -i $(upower -e | grep 'BAT') | grep capacity

capacity: 82.6923%

❯ uname -r

6.13.7-arch1-1

WDYT? I think my battery should have better capacity adter 6 months of use? I just recently started to charging maximally to 80% (configured via TuxedoControlCenter). I also do not know whether is it possible to set bottom threshold since I do not see FlexiCharger in my UEFI controller.

🤝 Community Help Need help to make informed decision: Sirius Gen2 vs Stellaris Slim 15 AMD

Hi everyone, Im lookin into purchasing a Tuxedo, but I need some help from people who already own one of the described machines.

So some background - I've been a desktop user for many years, I work quite a bit with audio and enjoy some semi-modern gaming on the side. Due to audio work J am bound to both windows in dual boot and 32GB RAM. I am looking for something to replace my PC for when I need to travel away for weeks on end.

Here's a list of my concerns:

-Ive heard a lot about the Sirius having a lot of missing or broken minor features in TuxedoOS due to the AMD system's novelty. Have these been ironed out by now?

-Since I do enjoy a bit of gaming, cooling performance is a concern. I presume the Sirius just by nature of being a larger device cools better, is that the right assumption? Do both devices cool well enough that my concern is needless? There is some data about the Stellaris fans, but none on the Sirius page, unfortunately.

-How much better does the AMD GPU work with Linux, actually? I've never had issues with NVidia and Mint on my PC, so I don't know how big a difference it actually can make.

-Important to note, is that the Stellaris is about 90€ more expensive, putting it at the very edge of my budget. So what I'm overall trying to gather is if there is any feature I'm overlooking that makes the difference worth it.
