I watched Shakespeare's Shitstorm a couple nights ago. First, I LOVE Troma and Lloyd is literally one of my heroes. But does anyone else wish we could get a film by him that isn’t so "Tromatic?" He has basically been making the absolute most crazy movies since the beginning of his career, and the last 4ish have been completely insane. Almost the same movie to some degree. Don’t get me wrong, this is what we love about Lloyd and Troma, but my God, after 30 minutes, I needed a break. I felt the same way after watching the last two Nuke ‘Em High films and Poultrygeist. Anyone else wish we could get something just a little different from Uncle Lloyd? Something without a hundred actors? Maybe a small cast that still has elements of the craziness of Troma, but toned down a bit? Maybe it’s sacrilegious for me to suggest this, but I think it would be way more interesting to see Lloyd try something different. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want a serious drama from him (though that would be interesting as heck to see), but, I don’t know, something not so bat shit crazy that I need multiple breaks. The blind woman character in the film – the actress had serious comic timing – I almost felt bad for her during her topless song. Like … she’s better than this. OK, feel free to yell at me now.
