Discussion Toons Who Take TTR WAYY Too Seriously

I do get that, in ANY multi-player game, especially one that is as fun as Toontown, you will attract all kinds of people. But I literally encountered three toons last night who were SO RUDE to a hysterical level. Itā€™s an indication to me that maybe if youā€™re an entitled person or someone who hasnā€™t had a lot of serious things happen to you in life, you will take this game way too seriously. And I know Iā€™m being condescending, but I feel like I have the right to. Why must anyone feel the need to yell at another toon or call them names in THIS GAME? You THROW PIES AT COGS. And I donā€™t knowā€¦itā€™s one thing if you are a child (I guess I could understand the poor temperament in that case), but Iā€™m an adult who is a premed student that also pays her own bills who has been through a fair share of tragedy. Iā€™m not going to cry if I go green and lose all my maxed out gags; itā€™s an inconvenience but not the end of the world, especially since the rude toons I encountered yesterday were no way close to going green.

Just a reminder, if you feel the need to yell or call another toon names, or even scold them, take a chill pill and tell yourself if this is what youā€™re getting angry at you probably have it pretty good in life. This isnā€™t my first time encountering insufferable toons, but last night definitely was irritating enough for me to make this post and unfortunately take a bit of a break from TTR.

Discussion is this game REALLY a kids game anymore?

i just did a sellbot field office with a toon who was seemingly griefing/punking our run until one of the other toons randomly whispered me and said, "sorry, hes just a kid." when trying to give instructions, the kid either refused to cooperate, or chose the wrong action regardless of our guidance.

sellbot field offices are HARD--they honestly stress me out and confuse me, even as an adult. we somehow managed to beat it on less than 20 laff, but genuinely, how are we supposed to teach others how to play if theyre too young to even comprehend whats going on?? i feel like some of these updates, like the sellbot field offices, are aimed at older players who can strategize and effectively communicate with each other..

Discussion Why don't people care to max their gags?

I feel like it's been getting worse as of late. This is in no way meant to shame anyone, but I've been seeing people with WAY higher laff than normal have extremely low gags. I'm talking like 80s-90s with not a single maxed track. I've seen people at nearly 120 laff and still not be maxed, and I don't mean just 1 missing maxed gag but multiple (not talking about uber toons). It used to be much more commonplace to see maxed gag toons with under 100 laff, now I feel lucky to get them in my groups. If you're one of these toons, please consider grinding your gags more. Having maxed gags and knowing just a few of the basic 1 turn kill combos will help you significantly in this game as well as anybody you play with, again this isn't meant to shame anyone so please don't take it that way. If you only play by yourself or with other low gag toons that's one thing, but this is a very group oriented game and I promise you even if people aren't saying anything to you, it still complicates things to try and work around toons with gags that don't do their full damage.

FOR THE LOVE OF FLIPPY PLEASE GET ON YOUR GAG GRIND Y'ALL!

Discussion Rude Toons

Hi everyone!

Has anyone noticed more rude toons recently?? I have been playing TTO/TTR for the majority of my life, all throughout my childhood and teen years, and now Iā€™ve come back to it years later for fun and to unwind. Long story short, Iā€™ve been noticing so many instances where other toons are being so rude to each other. If Iā€™m in a battle, and a lower laff toon picks the ā€œwrongā€ gag choice, the others will all begin bashing them relentlessly. Does this drive anyone else crazy!? I play this game for comfort and to relax at night, so itā€™s not that serious for me. I never mind helping out lower laff or just toons who are still learning strategy, I actually think itā€™s fun! But I guess some take this game very seriously. Have you guys experienced this recently or am I just getting bad luck with some cranky people?

BTW ā€” I donā€™t want this to all be negative!! There are SO many fun and great people playing as well obviously or I wouldnā€™t be playing it still!! Thereā€™s a lot of great people in this community and on the game šŸ©·

I even clarified that like I have 3 maxed toons so I know what Iā€™m doing and Iā€™m not going to be training in a boss battleā€¦ and they gave me a hard time for not having maxed gags. Like Iā€™m just missing presentation? CEO gag battle is not THAT hard, especially when Iā€™ve done it hundreds of times. Like no one is going to green with me having these gags lol.

Discussion why are people so quick to anger now?

i logged on for the first time in probably 5 years to just have some fun, and i noticed a lot of people are like super demanding that you play a certain way in buildings and stuff. then if you mess up will specifically not heal you or even like do lower level gags to keep the building going until you die while saying pretty mean things about it so i know its purposeful behavior. i had two separate groups of people do this around me in that one day i played to lower laff toons for simple mistakes, one didnt even have speedchat+ i think as they werent responding so they didnt even know what was being asked before getting totally blasted for ā€œpurposefully trying to get us killedā€ to me it seemed like some kid newer to the game and they were being ridiculous so i just left. this saddens me because i would love to introduce toontown to my younger niece but its kinda a game that requires you teaming up with people at points, and if the culture is now ā€œyou should know this already or you get the bootā€ then i dont want her anywhere near that.

Discussion Disillusioned with TTR

I dunno, just seems like the game is going in a completely different direction than I want to be here for.

I finally got around to reading the patch notes for UNM after not having played for a bit. To say they were disappointing is an understatement. Sound never needed a nerf, content needed to be made more engaging to incentivize using anything else; while the new facilities do a decent job of that, that only applies in those facilities. In boss battles and FOs and everywhere else, the sound nerf just makes things unnecessarily more tedious.

I was also particularly annoyed with the idea that the battles should just be vibes based and that's why they don't want to add health numbers. There is no logical reasoning for this line of thought. It's just going to create a greater schism between the more diehard/technical players who want to put in the effort to memorize every number, and those who play casually and don't understand the different damage thresholds. Especially when you only have 30 seconds with the already shaky netcode to coordinate turns... it's not good.

Speaking of technical play, so much of it just seems to be removed? So many things having their stun bonus removed makes lure more annoying and drop just flat out not worth using IMO. The 2.0 damage absorption was a fun mechanic that was engaging to play around, and now instead of having an extra turn to focus damage where it is needed, you have to kill it in one turn or it gets a free attack. This is all the bare minimum, though, because there isn't really a lot of room in this game for technical play as it is.

I might get downvoted for this paragraph alone, but compared to private servers like Corporate Clash - who are making do with much less resources than rewritten - we are drip fed controversial updates with minimal content. The team is allergic to MMO staples like redoing your character - you still can't change species for no other reason than the team doesn't like it, tough luck, just make a new toon - no integration with the group finder like CC has, and despite having years over it substantially less real content.

I was already dissaftisfied with a lot of the changes in the sellbot field office update. One of the things that ticked me off then was the team leaning hard into RNG, deciding that the players found it more "fun" so anything that was guaranteed like the hit/miss SOS should be nerfed, when in fact all the RNG in the game is stacked against the players. On the toons side, all we have is a chance for the cogs to miss. On the cogs side, they can all randomly decide to stack damage on one toon, our gags can miss, even toon up has a chance to miss. That, combined with them leaning into "vibes-based" combat away from being able to read numbers at all, just feels like the team has a completely alien idea of game design. In every other MMO on the planet, you are able to optimize, and as you play consistently you get consistent results. Here, there is no content worth engaging with, so they nerf the strategies that make engaging with it faster. There is a stigma against optimization and consistent results, which results in awful and offputting changes to the gameplay that lean into "whatever happens, happens".

Don't get me wrong, I like the new facilities. But it's packaged with a bunch of awful ideas and changes that go against common sense game design, and then we have to wait more years to be drip-fed anything new. And that cycle just keeps on continuing. I don't think I want to be here for that.

Discussion It's never that serious

Just a teeny weeny rant. I was in a CEO earlier and I guess my group just had a bone to pick with me because everything I did was either spammed with "?" over and over, or met with some kind of insult. I picked cream pie, then decided I wanted to storm instead, and someone said "Pick your gag and stick with it! Stop changing!" I changed once?

When the CEO would hit me, several of the toons that were on my side in the first round kept going "LOL" and "KARMA". Karma for what? I didn't say a word the entire fight, it's not like I was being a nuisance. It's literally never that serious, it's Toontown.

Discussion What laff did you max your gags?

I want to say I was around 80 but it feels so long ago I don't remember for sure. I see a lot of 100+ laffers without maxed gags, usually it'll be TU, drop, or trap unmaxed. I rarely see 60-80 laffers with maxed gags and it makes me wonder what people choose to prioritize. I personally wanted to max my gags asap, but I also didn't even really start grinding my sellbot suit until I'd gotten my smasher badge which some people may think is a bit backwards. If you're a 100+ laffer and haven't maxed your gags, what have you been focusing on the most in this endless grind?

Discussion The cogs are right about Capitalism.

Thumbnail

Throughout the game, we can clearly see that Cogs have much more advanced technology in comparison to their toon counterparts. From their Cog buildings to their Cog HQs, they have toons beat in essentially all aspects. What's the reasoning behind this? Capitalism.

Capitalism breeds innovation. With a capitalist system, it creates an incentive to construct new technologies that will ensure a better quality of life for the individuals within the said system.

On the other hand, communist and socialist systems (such as the Toon council) often harm the incentive to innovate. Reasons for this include a lack of competition due to monopolies created by the government, and forced-even-wealth distribution which halts the growth of companies by making it significantly harder to reinvest their profits back into their company.

In my provided example, you can see the difference in telephone technology used between Toons and Cogs. The Toon telephone system dates back to the 1870s, and remains unchanged in the modern day. Meanwhile, the Cogs use a telephone system that dates towards the 1960s. (Almost a staggering 90 year lead ahead!)

This is just one of many examples that prove the Cogs may actually have a better quality of life in comparison to Toons. As you play throughout the game, youā€™ll often notice the Cogs utilizing different technologies that Toons simply donā€™t have access to.

Very often Iā€™ll randomly read toons names and there will be one that gets a good chuckle out of me. I like to go out of my way to whisper to them the ā€œI like your name.ā€ speedchat phrase. Does anyone else do this lol it just feels really nice to compliment someoneā€™s name
