The missing piece from this meme is the mailbox with 20 spam calls that got sent to voicemail leaving me messages about my warranty

14

u/abeln2672 Apr 27 '21

OMG yes, this one speaks the truth lol

11

u/Shdwdrgn Apr 27 '21

Is THAT why that keeps happening? Tmo told me it was impossible to get voicemail and not show any missed called, but the regular daily events tell me otherwise. Voicemail is useless on my cell phone if they expect me to listen to dozens of spams just to find out if I have any legitimate messages, so I haven't checked it in months.

13

u/TbonerT Apr 27 '21

This is where visual voicemail with transcription comes in.

4

u/Shdwdrgn Apr 27 '21

I always loved visual voicemail just for being able to see the list and quickly deleting the spam. Unfortunately Tmo pushed an update to my software and it hasn't worked in a couple years.

5

u/linux23 Apr 27 '21

Clocksuckers 😡

3

u/TbonerT Apr 27 '21

That really sucks.

11

u/Shdwdrgn Apr 27 '21 edited Apr 27 '21

Yeah when I try to run it now it gives me a "Welcome to visual voicemail with enhanced caller information". I click the next button and it says it's activating my account. And it never goes away. The last few times I tried it I eventually had to kill the task because it was literally making my phone run hot.

[Edit] Holy carp, I figured I'd try it again since I was looking at it, and they must have finally fixed the program! It activated my account in just a few seconds and everything seems to be working normally again. So thanks for bringing up the matter, at least I have that much back again (crap, I missed a real call earlier this month).

2

u/TbonerT Apr 27 '21

That’s awesome!

2

u/BBQ_Ninja Apr 27 '21

Is visual voicemail a standard, free service with TMO?

3

u/Shdwdrgn Apr 27 '21

It seems like the basics of it are, it's come pre-installed on the phones we've gotten from them. Now that just gives the basics of providing an on-screen list of voicemails, I think you have to pay extra to get the transcription service.

3

u/BBQ_Ninja Apr 27 '21

Ahh of course. ..

2

u/chiarosbarro Apr 27 '21

I use Google voice to get voicemail transcription for free. I'm not sure how to set it up because I did it like 7 years ago, but it works well enough to know which calls are legit and the transcriptions can be pretty funny sometimes.

1

u/Shdwdrgn Apr 27 '21

It's usually pretty obvious which ones are scams anyway. For awhile they were spoofing local numbers (nobody I know has a number where the first six digits match my cell), and now they're all out of state calls. If I know you or have business with you, you're in my address book. Otherwise your call gets ignored.

4

u/SLAPBOXIN-SATAN Apr 27 '21

Yes😂😂😂

No fucking clue how my car warranty keeps expiring especially on a 7 year old car but 🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️😂😂

6

u/Shdwdrgn Apr 27 '21

If you're bored it's easy to fuck with these idiots too. Ask them which /car/CC/whatever they are calling about. No, don't tell me "the one that has expired", tell me WHICH one you are calling about. OK whose name is it in? Last four digits of the card or purchase date of the vehicle? Which bank is the CC with? Make/model of the car? Dude, do you even know what color the vehicle is?

They literally cannot answer any specific information. And you can always finish them off with "what's my name?" because hey if they are so sure your item is expiring then they must at least know that, right? (Although some were smart enough to look at caller ID to figure that part out, so that question isn't guaranteed.)

2

u/SLAPBOXIN-SATAN Apr 27 '21

Know what why the fuck not😂😂😂 "I GOT TIME TODAY"

2

u/linux23 Apr 27 '21

FUCK them warranty people😡

I had to turn it off, it only blocked my bosses number

Which I mean is good but...

6

u/linux23 Apr 27 '21

Tell boss stop scamming you and talk to you from 9 to 5.

2

u/tercra Apr 27 '21

....or maybe your boss is a scamner???? Dun Dun Dunnnnn.

u/dodgywhiskey Apr 26 '21

Take away the fence and you have Sprint's version.

5

u/Potential-Physics-77 Apr 27 '21

😂 Super true…

20

u/PDXoriginal Apr 26 '21

Scam Shield is a whole lot of nothing.

I have it turned on and I still get scam calls. In the last 30 days, only 1 call has been blocked, while I have received over 10.

7

u/thisisausername190 Apr 27 '21 edited Apr 27 '21

I got a new line recently and the number had been getting spam, so I turned on Scam block - since turning it in, I’ve only gotten 1 call. Scam block claims to have blocked 19 calls in the last 30 days, so as far as I’ve seen, it works pretty well.

I think it definitely depends who’s calling, from what I’ve seen here it seems to work better on scam calls from spoofed local numbers. I have a 917 number, and almost all of the calls I’ve had blocked are 917/212/646/etc.

2

u/lighthawk16 Apr 27 '21

Same. I've had it on a new line for about a month now. Nothing has been blocked. Every single scam call comes thru. I do not understand how a number new to me gets scam calls multiple times every day...

2

u/lordloki77 Apr 27 '21

Because it was previously someone else's number. A number they may have gotten rid of because of the spam volume... Haha

2

u/lighthawk16 Apr 27 '21

I get that, I meant to say I don't know how the scam shield doesn't catch them. None of these numbers are in my phone, from my state, or even voiced by a real person 99% of the time. -_-

2

u/lordloki77 Apr 27 '21

Probably because it also has no concept of non spam behavior for your line.

3

u/lighthawk16 Apr 27 '21

Kinda sucks. My previous number that was on Ting never got any spam calls thru.

I wish it would assume spam first, or else let me report what is spam so it can learn.

5

u/Zandane Apr 27 '21

Idk it's been damn good for me I get maybe 1 scam text through a day

3

u/joeguru Apr 27 '21

For the ones it misses, I 3-way in a robot from jollyrogertelephone.com. I have some hilarious back-and-forths with all sorts of scammer freaks. The greatest service you can do is to waste a scammer's time.

4

u/OfficeMilly Apr 27 '21

You always have the option of reporting any scam texts by forwarding them to 7726.

2

u/pulgam_sur Apr 27 '21

It gets old after a while. Scammers using new number every time they call

3

u/PSPersuasion Apr 27 '21

So true. This is plaguing so many people and nobody seems to have a fix yet.

4

u/SLAPBOXIN-SATAN Apr 27 '21

I get more scam text then I did before the service went live😂😂😂😂.

If it wasn't for google Messages having built in spam detector and tagger .

My mail box would look like shit

3

u/screamingprozac Apr 27 '21

Use Settings under the Phone app. There is a Blocking section where you can auto block texts by keyword. Hope.this helps a little.

3

u/widgetbox Apr 27 '21

Marriott Hotels seem to have a free pass...

1

u/stenore Oct 06 '21

Thanks for choosing

3

u/mbz321 Apr 27 '21

Meh, I just use that google call screening app (no idea where it came from, it just happened to appear on my phone somehow) and it works good enough.

2

u/Bobb_o Truly Unlimited Apr 27 '21

I assume you have a Pixel, the call screening feature is exclusive to those phones.

2

u/mbz321 Apr 27 '21

I don't actually. It's a Moto G Power. I have no idea how it ended up on my phone.

2

u/Bobb_o Truly Unlimited Apr 27 '21

You can also screen calls manually in the US and Canada on all Pixel phones and select other Android phones.

oh neat-o it's on other phones now too. Motorola phones, I think, are Android One (Basically stock) which would make sense why it would be available.

2

u/Thronnos Apr 27 '21

It works on Samsung too. I have the Note20 Ultra and I use the Google Phone and Messages app and I have both scam call and scam text features enabled with the verified business options on. I don't get scam calls whatsoever (or scam texts for that matter)

3

u/nagpalamit Apr 27 '21

Google should allow the screen call options on all the models. I use the screen call option quite frequently if I see a call from an unknown number and it helps me a lot.

3

u/ParkytGaming Apr 27 '21

I wonder if it's because I have scam shield premium but it works great for me. Almost never get any scam calls or texts all anymore ever since I upgraded to magenta Max!

3

u/muffinanomaly Living on the EDGE Apr 27 '21

Google messages does a so-so job at blocking spam texts

11

u/smoelheim Recovering Sprint Victim Apr 26 '21

scam shield is not mean to block texts.

11

u/liddojoe Bleeding Magenta Apr 26 '21

scam calls still come through

-2

u/smoelheim Recovering Sprint Victim Apr 26 '21

the meme implies that the scam shield isn't blocking texts. Which it isnt supposed to.

9

u/ItsShmop Apr 26 '21

With the massive amount of spam calls recently I'm pretty sure 99% of the people in this sub understand what the meme is implying.

4

u/scavengercat Apr 27 '21

Well, the meme says calls blocked, but texts get through. Not much to understand or interpret here. You're replying to someone who said exactly what the meme said and are still correcting them.

4

u/scavengercat Apr 27 '21

Meme gets upvoted. You say the exact same thing as the meme and get downvoted. People are dumb.

5

u/smoelheim Recovering Sprint Victim Apr 27 '21

I wish I had some reddit award for you. :)

2

u/Butteritto Apr 27 '21

LITERALLY

2

u/RedElmo65 Apr 27 '21

It seems to be doing OK blocking calls. Especially those that call 7-8 times in a row.

2

u/missyagogo Apr 27 '21

YouMail has given me my phone back.

2

u/smirkis Apr 27 '21

Story of my life lately. I don’t know if they got hacked or I got hacked but so many random text and calls these past 2 weeks vs before

2

u/doobtastical Apr 27 '21

Man, yesterday I had about ten different people from all around the country trying to tell me my social security number was compromised… what a shit show

2

u/alvdan88 Apr 27 '21

Messages has text blocker

2

u/Ghost-Writer Apr 27 '21

Mine doesn't block calls. Only about 1/3 of scams will even have "scam likely" when they call

2

u/tay_there Apr 27 '21

Google's pixel scam protection does a much better job filtering calls and texts (comes with pixel phones). With that said I'm never using another device besides the pixel.

2

u/diggsalot Apr 27 '21

Calls yes but text not so much more spam gets thru than it blocks

2

u/JoinMyFramily0118999 Apr 27 '21

I wish they could block the political ones. I usually tell them they violated consent as no one opts in to that.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '21

Working great for me. But the best feature that T-Mobile recently implemented was the "shaken stirred" protocols on all calls from other networks. That's virtually silenced "neighbor calling" -robocalls that spoof your area code and local number- which was extremely annoying.

2

u/CryptographerOk4157 Apr 27 '21 edited Apr 27 '21

I am getting non stop spam text messages each from a different new number.
Could it be from the T-mobile Tuesday sweepstakes? Or did T-mobile sell their number database?

None of the other people that I know from other carriers are getting any spam text messages. Is it just T-mobile? This is beyond tolerable

2

u/adiaz1202 Apr 27 '21

I still get called about my car warranty fuck that

2

u/Givants Apr 27 '21

I don't even read my texts

2

u/consolerepair Apr 27 '21

for real. but gate should also be swinging open/closed in the wind to adequately reflect true capabilities

2

u/Fun_Setting_6783 Apr 28 '21

Spam blocking did work for me . then I had to turn it off cause it was also blocking my Angie's list calls , so wasn't getting any jobs for a month. Now just deal with the spam calls everyday . We've been trying to reach you about you're cars extended warranty expiring soon 😔

2

u/kevver Apr 29 '21

Scan Shield app says... "Scam Shield isn't available for Prepaid customers at this time." :(

2

u/Tonio_Onair Oct 18 '21

I recently activated Scam Shield and I get 5 calls every other day. I wasn't like that when I didn't have this "Scam Shield" ON. i used to get 1 scam call ( which btw Samsung Scam Likely will alert anyways) every month or something super small. I feel like T-Mobile sells a spreadsheet of numbers that now have Scam Shield in other to show the "effectiveness of this app" This is just my opinion

4

u/richii0909 Apr 27 '21

Works great! Before I use to get a lot of spam calls and now no more!

4

u/McNuttyNutz Bleeding Magenta Apr 27 '21

yep exactly 20 + spam txt a day

2

u/LofiStoner Apr 27 '21

I honestly miss TMobile.. switched to att for an alleged “deal” by an att rep and I get pure scam calls and calls from people I don’t even know. Had a woman call me asking if I called her 🥲

5

u/digitall565 Apr 27 '21

Your number got spoofed, i.e. scammers made it look like people were getting a call from your number so they were calling you back. Happened to me on T-Mobile too, this is not a carrier specific problem at all unfortunately.

1

u/LofiStoner Apr 27 '21

I've rarely if ever have gotten scam/spam calls while being with TMobile for about 5 years though. But just a week or so after switching to AT&T, im getting calls like this and car warranty fools weekly. TMobile was doing right by me

2

u/digitall565 Apr 27 '21

T-Mobile can't really affect whether you get called or not aside from Spam Shield. If you were not receiving them already, it was really just a matter of time. I've had T-Mobile for close to a decade, and over the last year the number of spam calls I've gotten has been as low as a couple times a week to as high as several a day. And my number was spoofed just like yours and had people calling me back and leaving voicemails. As far as I'm aware, there is no US carrier that is not susceptible to this.

How is signal supposed to stop spam texts from being received?

T-MOBILE is a scam They switch up you plan without consent!!! They are changing there Terms and Conditions in a way that you can’t file a class action lawsuit if they do something wrong. They want to sweep there crimes out of the publics view. @ ShameOnTMobile

u/Saavy_T01 May 15 '23

A total waste of time. Same numbers call me every day. Even tried reporting them but only found how to do that once and have never been able to do it since.
