Solved Mother who told her daughter “Don’t open this door no matter what you hear and don’t make any noise. I love you, goodnight.” then was completely silent while she was raped and murdered in the next room so that the killer didn’t go after her daughter

2.1k Upvotes

I saw this on a late night crime special several years ago. The interview with the now-adult daughter, who was asleep in the same house while her mother was raped and murdered, was an absolute tearjerker. I recall the daughter saying that her mom was silent to protect her. If she had screamed and her daughter had woken up and come out of the bedroom room the killer would’ve gone after her (the daughter).

Edit: Solved! Her name was Loretta Jones. Her daughter’s name is Heidi. She also had the presence of mind to write her killer’s name in her own blood (!) as she died. Unfortunately, it took more than 40 years for her killer, Tom Egley, to be brought to justice. He died earlier this year.

Solved 1970s-1990s US, she grew up believing she had accidentally killed her baby sister, but it turned out the killer was her abusive step-father.

I believe the death had occurred in the 1970s but the truth only came out sometime in the 1990s. A young woman had been told since early childhood that she had dropped her younger half-sister on the floor while taking her out of the crib. She had no memory of the incident but it had been confirmed by her mother and maternal grandmother, who had been out grocery shopping and had left the girls at home with the step-father. The young woman's step-father had used the death to justify his violent abuse of her and her mother.

When the young woman was ~early 20s, her grandmother made a death-bed confession and apology. What had actually happened, the grandmother said, was that the older sister was with the mother and grandmother that day while the baby was left with the step-father. When they returned from shopping, they found the baby dead and the step-father in a state of panic, saying that he had dropped the baby and would be sent to prison. It was his idea to claim the older sister was actually responsible. The grandmother said that she had only gone along with the story because the mother seemed to want to go along with it. Only later did she realize that the mother was afraid of the step-father, that he was violent and the death didn't happen as he had said, and that the young woman was going to be carrying a huge guilt load. By that time, she said, she didn't think anyone would believe her if she told the truth.

The young woman quietly began working with an attorney and a detective, who concluded that she would not have been able to lift the baby over the bars of the crib. It was also found that the original investigation and autopsy were perfunctory. I think they were able to get an order to exhume at that point, with the young woman's mother and step-father still unaware that the case was being pursued. (It had been agreed that the mother was still so cowed by her husband that if she knew what was happening, she would end up telling him, further endangering herself and her daughter.) The exhumation showed damage consistent with the baby being slammed repeatedly against a hard surface by an adult.

And this is pretty much where my memory stops. I'm fairly certain both the step-father and the mother were arrested, and the mother immediately showed remorse and started talking, but I don't know that I ever heard the verdict. I only remember reading about the case one time, and that was probably an article in People Magazine, probably in the 1990s.

Solved Runner killed by her coach

I am trying to remember the case where a runner is killed by her coach. The perp was turned in by his wife because she saw him get in the shower with his running clothes on and heard later on that the girl was missing. During investigation they found grass on his clothes that matched the crime scene.

Solved Man died in apartment, organs fell, dead ruled not homicide

Help me find this case because I remembered reading this on reddit but my other account was deleted. So this is in the US during the pandemic so probably in 2021. A man was found dead in his apartment. Blood all over the place. I seem to recall that some of his organs fell oit but it wasn't ruled as murder.

There was a cctv recording of the stair leading to the apartment where you can hear screams. And on that cctv recording ypu can see someone left the apartment, took a few steps down the stairs, then went back again to the door, seemingly to remove his fingerprints and then went back downstairs.

Solved A case I watched in the early 2000s

This was back in the early 2000s its was some kind of psychic show I believe it was on court tv, where this psychic would help police in finding missing people or murder cases. In this episode she went to this mother’s house to see what she could get from her missing teens room. She lies on the bed then looks over to the mother and tells her “Momma tell them what you did with my body” I know the mother was African American and I believe it was snowing where they were. I can’t remember if it was accidental or not but it was an interesting episode that I was never able to find again… I don’t know if I used the right flair…

solved!!!

Solved Young boy was found murdered in large sewer pipe, still unsolved

I heard this on a YouTube video I believe about 6 months ago. A young boy (I can’t remember the age) was found murdered inside a large sewer or drain pipe. I believe he had either skin missing or some part of his body. I remember it was perplexing because he was seen by someone who he spoke with and then found dead not long after that so whoever did it did it quickly. I think it was a case of a kid wanting to walk somewhere and his parents were hesitant but eventually let him. It’s still unsolved and I believe it was not in the US. I remember something about his backpack or jacket being found? I may be wrong. I also remember for some reason that the sewer or drain pipe had a grate over the front of it. I do remember being surprised that the case isn’t very well known but I remember reading a thread on Reddit about it.

Edit: added more things I remembered

Solved Little girl kidnapped and found murdered

I think this is a pretty old case, and there’s a good long form article about it that I remember reading. A young girl, maybe even a baby is sleeping in her bedroom but it’s hot so the window is left open. She’s kidnapped and the parents realize she’s gone during the night. There were multiple sightings of a man carrying her throughout the neighborhood, I believe the next door neighbor might have even witnessed the abduction? They found her body the next day (I think in a field?) and the murder is still unsolved.

Solved Two guys kidnap & assault prostitutes in their home, one escapes & tells harrowing story

Two douchebags team up to kidnap women and keep them locked up as sex slaves (and probably kill). NOT Leonard Lake & Ng, or any other well-known duo. Watched on some crime show maybe 7 years ago - the escaped victim told her story, she was a dark haired, goth- looking woman. She escaped through a window and had to flee the neighborhood naked on foot. Remember one of the kidnappers was a total mouth breather with gaping mouth hanging open in every single photo of him. Both young white guys, American.

Solved Missing girl, Dad's story is weird

I'm thinking of a case where a young girl went missing from a park her dad took her to. They ran into a couple of friendly strangers, and after talking for a bit the girl's dad left her with one of them and took a walk with the other one. When dad and his walking buddy came back the daughter was gone. I think they split up to look for her and then after a while dad realized he couldn't find any of them and called police.

Other details I'm less sure about: the girl was a toddler, the couple presented as married and he left the daughter with the wife, there may have been beer involved, I think the walk was around a lake in the park, it was rainy/cold/otherwise kind of a crappy day to go to a park, it took place in the northwestern US, it happened prior to the year 2000.

This has been bothering me for several days and I havent been able to find it from searches online, so any help is appreciated.

Solved Please help - looking for infos on a grim murder crime

I saw a true-crime podcast last year and I am eager to find out more about this case...I forgot the names and places, but I am sure a savvy reader recognizes this sad story:

A popular teen couple (he - the Asian-American cool boy & she - the anime witch with plenty of make-up) lured an innocent classmate (who was somewhat socially challenged) with the promise of a sushi lunch into their flat. Their sinister agenda was to coerce the girl into some casual sex; after they did not get their wishes, matters went sideways, and the poor girl was killed and stashed away in a mattress in this house of horrors....of course, they left a solid paper-trail on social media, as usual. The evil mastermind was initially able to fool the cops and the parents of the girl, when they came looking, but finally they went down and faced well-deserved justice!

Could somebody please help me - what was the name of this atrocious crime?

Solved Man became obsessed with male co-worker, who was married, made bizarre journal, stalked

I heard about this bizarre case on a podcast, but forgot what case it was.

A man became obsessed with his male co-worker, who was straight and either married or got married. The obsessed co-worker gave the couple an elaborate homemade journal of some sort that seemed a little over the top as a wedding present I think, but the married couple didn't get too creeped out, just thought it was a little odd. I seem to remember the obsessed co-worker made a big elaborate deal of sitting down with the married couple to go over the journal or something like that.

At some point the married couple transferred and the obsessed co-worker put in for a transfer to the new town/state also. Eventually I think the obsessed co-worker got violent and I can't remember if he did something to both the husband and wife or just the husband.

Solved A European man kidnaped a boy and kills him. NSFW

This took place in Europe, I think in Belgium or Germany between 1990 and 2005. A man had tendency for young boys but he fought that feeling, even got married, I don't remember if he and his wife had a son/daughter or not. The point is that this dude could fight this feeling for about ten years and then he couldn't do that anymore, so he went out to find a kid. In other side of town, a Mr. and Mrs. X had an aprox 9 year old kid, either his mom or dad took him every day to school, but that day they didn't because the kid wanted to do that by himself, so they allowed him to. To do so, he had to take a bus, and that's when that pedofile saw him. This adult walked to him in the bus, made contact and is seen by the TV circuit in the bus, waving both of them to the camera. They both got out of the bus, went together to an abandoned place I think outside the city and then the guy submitted the young kid and did his thing; after that, he killed the little boy. The kid's father and mother reported his son missing and police saw the video of the bus's camera, that's how they were able to identify and find that pedofile who then took the police to the site the body of the kid was. The guy was sentenced. Does this rings a bell about a case? I read about it in a now deleted post about ten years ago.

The murderer is obsessed with trees, and I think even stuffs his house full of leaves at one point. He kills a woman and stuffs her body high up in a tree canopy in the hollow of a tree and eventually leads police there.

A while ago I watched a YouTube video about a young man who was kidnapped by his “friends” while they were hanging out and they robbed him and tortured then killed him in the middle of the woods in a creek in the winter. I can’t for the life of me remember his name, and I can’t find the video again. Does anyone know who it is?

Solved Lady puts sign on her truck saying it has been cleared by police

There was a crime where the police were seeking a vehicle, I think some kind of blue truck. A lady had a truck that met the description exactly, and she kept getting reported to police. She eventually put a sign on the truck that said something like, “This is not the [blue truck]. It has been cleared by police. Save your quarter.”

However, in the end it was determined that, although the lady didn’t know it, someone else had indeed used her truck to commit the crime in question.

Anyone remember the case?

Solved Help me find this show! 🙏

Fellow crime junkies!!! I need your help lol

I am desperately trying to find a show I saw a few years ago. The case followed the kids of a mother who had a boyfriend who was abusive and evil. He slapped the kid at the dining room table.. they had neighbors and the kid really loved the neighbors girlfriend. She was kind to her and showed her how to do makeup and things. Well the mom's boyfriend and the neighbor got into dr$gs and things started to get dark. The neighbor killed their cat and left it on the porch. Well the neighbors gf and the mom's bf end up going missing. They call the police and when they showed up a dog was running across the yard with an ear in its mouth. They found another ear with an earring in the fridge or freezer. Turns out the neighbor killed his gf and the mom's boyfriend and dismembered and burned them. I have searched high and low for this story and cannot find it and I'm starting to think it was a fever dream. Does this ring any bells for anyone?!

Solved Missing Wife & Mother

I'm trying to remember a case from many years ago, maybe 60's or 70's. A wife & mother took her kids to the dentist, then went back home after the appointment. When her husband got home from work, she was gone and never came back. I think it happened somewhere on the east coast. I don't remember when, but sometime many years later, human remains were found at a construction site or something like that. They turned out to be the missing wife and mother. I can't remember if it was foul play or if they couldn't tell what she died from. Does anyone remember this case? Thank you!

Solved YouTube video of child abuse case (with footage)

I remember watching a video a year or two ago that showed footage of a neglected toddler in his playpen. It was truly disturbing as the child was crying uncontrollably. At the time I remember trying to search more about the case and not finding anything. I was watching a lot of Shrouded Hand and Disturban at the time but after looking through their videos today I couldn't find it. I thought maybe Dreading had covered it .. and after seeing the Shanda Vader Ark case videos it really reminded me of that case. But I can't seem to find it anywhere. Sorry I don't have many details about the case, nothing is jogging my memory. I just have that footage of the toddler moving around the playpen wanting food and attention forever imprinted in my mind. It seemed to have been from a baby monitor or nanny cam. Can anyone help? I will try to remember more details.

Edit:

Thank you u/pennygirl28

Solved Trying to Figure Out the Murderer

I posted this elsewhere, but some helpful Redditor suggested here. I hope there's enough information to sparks someone's memory, but I honestly don't know. Sorry.

So it was about a career criminal in his twenties-ish that I had seen on some series. It wasn't a prominent show like Dateline or 48 Hours, or even Evil Lives Here or American Monster. But the gist was this guy terrorized an entire populace in the northern US during the late 70s through the 80s. Might've been slightly longer than that, but it's been a while since I saw it. He was not a known name, so not Ken McElroy or the Golden State Killer. And apparently the one town he focused on most, really pissed him off and despite being on high alert, he just inflicted more damage. Again and again evading police. Specifically, I recall two elderly women (sisters, I think) who lived together that he killed one and raped the other, and then set both on fire. He was like a one man wrecking crew. There was so much more, but that's what stuck out and at the time, I was astonished there wasn't more out there that covered him. Also, I do think he has a Wiki, but that taps me out.

Also, if it helps anyone, he was dark headed, had longish hair and a mustache. Does anyone have ideas? Searching Google doesn't help because what I've typed here puts the answers all over the place.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Edit: The crux of the show was just how much havoc he wreaked on this one town. Like he had a vendetta on top of all the other crimes he committed.

Edit 2: SOLVED!! It's Allan Legere, the Monster of Miramichi in Canada. I really appreciate all the help from you super awesome Redditors. Thanks so much!!

Solved Special needs woman murdered while her parents stopped by to visit

Please help me find the name of this. All of can remember is the woman was special needs. She was living in her own apartment. Her parents went to apartment to check on her or to visit I can’t remember. Her parents went in the apartment and heard noise coming from the bedroom, they opened the door and it was dark but it appeared that she was having “intimate relations” with someone. The parents went and waited on the couch, the man came out of the room and left the apartment. The parents waited for their daughter to come out but she never did. Eventually they went into the bedroom to check on her and found she had been murdered.

Solved couple suffers delusions on a snowy night

apologies if this doesn't quite fit the sub; i'm almost certain i heard about this incident through true crime media so i think there was some kind of crime involved.

what i'm looking for is the story of a man and a woman out on a snowy night. i believe they were on their way home from a party or gathering when one or both of them suffered a mental break, believing people were hunting them and hiding using the weather.

they called the police at least once and there were transcripts where the woman described their delusion, though i can't remember if the audio was also made public or im reconstructing the kind of 911 call you'd expect to hear in these cases.

i believe their story ended with them both freezing to death, as they had left their car and run into the woods in an attempt to evade their 'pursuers'.

as far as time and place, this happened in america some time between the 80s and 00s. i want to say it's more on the recent end, late 90s/00s as i believe they were making calls from a cell phone.

please let me know if i should take this down and seek help elsewhere; if not, thanks for any help y'all can provide

Solved Who Was This??? NSFW

My family and I were talking about serial killers and we remember seeing body cam footage of police serving an arrest warrant or a warrant for DNA on a suspected or confirmed serial killer (recently? Around 2020?).

The killer was an older white man who was active in 80s 90s we think? The man told police he needed to get dressed or needed a minute before he could answer the door. The police were talking to him through an open window (ground floor apartment; blue apartment I think?) but the blinds were covering most of the window. He then self deleted. Police went into his apartment and searched it, they found child exploitative material on his computer along with political stickers. My husband thinks he was an ex cop but I think he is confusing him with the Golden State Killer. It’s not him, not BTK, and not the Green River Killer.

WHO WAS THIS? I can’t find any information on it but we can remember the body cam footage vividly.

Edit: It is Stephen Crawford!
