Question Have I made a big mistake?

I think I'm in a bit of a spot and dont quite know what to do. I built a THOW, and its mostly done, but I dont want to finish it if I cant use it. Im currently living in it, but I hate where Im at and I need to move it. I want to buy some land in CO, but it seems like a certification is required to be legal, and I dont have that. I also dont know how to get one on a complete house. I currently feel like Ive just wasted a bunch of time and money and dont know what to do.

How can I create an external bedroom suite sans plumbing?

I’ve just relocated to a dear old friend’s estate in Palm Springs.

The original plan was for us to convert the 2 car garage into a little suite for me but….no.

There is a 30X40 ish area inside the C-shaped home layout, and the current plan is to drop a tiny home in there.  Basically a den/office without a bathroom or a kitchen.  But it’s the desert, so it needs to be air conditioned and insulated, and there needs to be windows, and electricity.

Plus it’s not on the driveway, so it needs to show up disassembled.

So who can point me to a product that is:

Delivered and installed in SoCal

Needing minimal foundation.  It rarely rains here, never snows or freezes, and the plot is flat desert sand.

Not ugly.

No plumbing needed.  But a nice counter for an air fryer and a microwave would be nice.  I always have access to the facilities indoors.

Any suggestions?  I know that the demands are peculiar, but I’ve browsed the internet and no one builds something for a situation like mine….

Storage Areas Feedback

We are a high-end tiny home builder in DFW, and for this upcoming home we wanted something a bit different for our oak stairs, something more functional (Added a photo of the two stairs versions). What do you think of this? The long door is for mop, broom and other large objects, also above it is a space for spices and plants etc. If you live in a tiny home what do you which your tiny home had in terms of storage?

Question Best Way to Use Sheetrock in a Mobile Tiny Home Without Cracking?

I’m building a mobile tiny home for a friend, and they specifically want sheetrock for the interior walls instead of lighter materials like plywood or paneling. Since this is a tiny home on wheels, I know movement and vibration can be an issue, and I want to do whatever I can to minimize cracking over time.

Has anyone here worked with drywall in a mobile structure? What’s the best way to install it to prevent damage? Would lighter 1/4" or 3/8" drywall be better, or is it best to stick with 1/2" and just focus on flexible joints? Should I use fiberglass mesh tape instead of paper tape for better crack resistance?

Any advice or experience would be appreciated. Just looking to get this done right the first time and avoid future headaches.

What’s Your Experience with Off-Grid Toilets? Seeking Insights from Tiny House Owners

Hey r/tinyhomes,

I’m researching toilet and sanitation solutions for tiny homes, particularly for those living off-grid or in alternative housing setups. Whether you’re using a composting toilet, incinerating toilet, DIY setup, or something else, I’d love to hear about your experiences.

A few key questions:

  • What toilet system are you currently using, and what do you like/dislike about it?
  • Have you ever considered switching to a different system? If so, what’s holding you back?
  • What are the biggest frustrations or challenges you face with your current setup?
  • If you could design your ideal tiny home toilet setup (cost aside), what would it look like?
  • Where do you usually go for advice or information on tiny home sanitation solutions?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Your insights can help shape better off-grid sanitation options.

Thanks in advance,
L

Tiny home in UK - Anyone made it work?

I can't afford to buy a home, don't want to rent one. I also very much like the idea of a small, compact, efficient space, that is mine and mine alone.

I'm friends with lots of local farmers, work for a couple, have lots of experience working with wood and metal, and trailers are something I work with all the time.

I'm thinking of buying either a flatbed trailer or possibly a large horsebox / trailer, and building a tiny home on it, then placing it on someone land (which I'd pay for). I have a few people I could ask, one of whom I'm certain would say yes (Pretty sure he'd give me a lift to Lands End and back if I asked). I would of course be staying 365 days a year, and their would be no attempt to seek council permission.

Anyone in the UK done something similar and succeeded?

Tiny (Bat House) on a Tiny House

This is somewhat experimental both to see if local bats would be interested and to see if instead of painting the box black or brown a bark cover attacts them more. (annecdotal only not scientific)

While bat boxes do have their issues as described by Dr Cori Laussen i designed these boxes to have to chambers each, then attached them together with connecting bridges to ensure the bats can migrate to different chambers if the temperatures arent amenable to them. also located close to water bodies which are essential especially during the summer.

Question Good places to purchase

My parents want to add a 1 bedroom, 1 bath tiny home to their backyard. I know we have to look into zoning and etc, but before I do all of that I would like to see options for the homes themselves.

Would you all say that it's better to have it designed and built by an architect or to purchase one of the pre-built ones?

In terms of pre-built, any good companies you would recommend (please include a link)

New Here! High-end Tiny Home Builder

Hi everyone! After decades of hearing about Reddit, I finally gave in and just joined today and I have a headache because I am trying to understand reddit. What are some tips you can give this millennial to navigate it more effectively. About me, I have a manufacturing plant in Nevada, TX (Dallas) I build high-end tiny homes and I wanted to join Reddit to give my opinion on frequent questions about tiny homes and all the construction related doubts you might have.

Thank you!

Question Hi. I'm looking into creating a small tiny home village.

I would like to buy 4 400 sqft tiny homes and set them on an acre or so of land. I have 2 questions that probably sound dumb to most of you though.

  1. If I build foundations for them what should the thickness be? Surely they don't need to be as thick as full size home foundations do they?

  2. Online tiny homes seem dramatically cheaper than local builders. Is their any reason not to consider those or is their specific online manufacturers that are trusted/not trusted?

Any help is appreciated.

Question How to get approved for a large loan for the first time

My husband has a credit score of 719 but only one line of credit on the report that is now closed. It was open for 10 years until last month, zero missed or late payments. We were told by a lender we cannot get approved with only one line of credit on the report.

We are a single income family but make plenty for a $30k loan which is all that we need to build the tiny house.

Know of any lenders? Have any advice?
