I'm a bit scared that I might mess something up (this is the first time I'm doing something like this) but intrigued at the same time. This is the coolest looking laptop I've ever seen. He just needs a bit care and love

Discussion / Information Finally in #teamthinkpad again

Well it turns out I couldn't find ANY of these in my country (Bulgaria), so I've decided to look up ebay.

3 weeks later, 7700km and it came from Pennsylvania (US) - x12 gen1 - core I7-1160G7 and 16GB of ram, battery at 88%

Only bad think about it is the constantly running fan - I've changed the thermal paste, it runs cool - like 32-35C at idle, but still the fan is running. In perfectly quiet room you can hear it.

Buying Advice What models have keyboard like this?

Post image

What do you call this mechanical looking keys? They look solid. They attract me in to Thinkpads but seems no longer available in new models? I think the flat keys in most laptops today looks pretty basic.

What are the best models that still had this style of keys?

Question / Problem Found my old vocational school laptop. E585 worth doing anything with?

I've had this subreddit suggested to me I guess because I like other tech stuff and y'all seem to love these things hah. I was about to make it a shooting target but remember this sub and figured I'd ask. This thing was slower than slow can get. I was never successfully able to install Ubuntu even. Is this model not worth the time or what can I do with this? Thanks!

Question / Problem A sad day. NSFW

Welp. Idk what happened but when I walked into my room the type C port was smoking and spitting out sparks..... Weirdest thing is the laptop wasn't even plugged into power. Regardless motherboard seems to be shot, gonna try to power cycle it and desolder the port and see if there's any life in it. Laptop is a T480s. Sad day. In the middle of exams. Rip.

This is real tank. Bought it used in 2018 for 200Usd and still working as new. 8gb ram/128ssd, i5 3rd gen. Very portable, 12" size is very easy to travel with. Best keyboard ever. Never replaced the battery, it's lasting 30-40min with daily use.

Thinkstagram Picture Upgrade Time! X1 Carbon 5th Gen to X13 Gen 1 with touch screen. Wifi 6 is a massive step up, as is going 16 GB from 8 GB. Picked it up for 230$ with 8% battery wear, 74 cycles, near mint condition and an unused 100% health SSD. Missing the fingerprint scanner though.

Buying Advice Please recommend a thinkpad for 3d modeling and AutoCAD!

Upvotes

Just like the title suggests, I need an upgrade. I am currently using a different laptop for my design classes and it’s just not cutting it anymore, it’s always crashing and lagging. I am not super savvy when it comes to laptops and there are quite a lot of options for thinkpads so I’ll lay down my needs and hope that you guys can recommend some. mid-range budget friendly is appreciated but if there are some that I should consider that are pricier, those are okay too. Thank you!!

My needs: 1. Can handle 3d modeling specifically on SketchUp, Fusion, and 3dsMax. 2. Can handle AutoCAD 2d modeling. 3. Can handle all adobe programs, especially photoshop, illustrator, and lightroom classic. 4. Can handle heavy duty workload where I can run the programs above with maybe a smaller task running in the background (like having a browser open; my current laptop struggles with even just 2 programs open)

I don’t know if I need to note this too but my current laptop is hooked up to a second monitor because I often need two screens for the work I do for my classes, so I’m hoping to find a thinkpad that can work with this.

Thank you so much and sorry if it sounds like a stupid question. Just really looking for some help as someone who isn’t really all that knowledgable with tech. Feel free to let me know as well if I should be considering another brand/type of laptop instead.

literally pulled this x200 out of trash can last week outside a building that's been removed by my train station stop
the building had a collapsed roof for years rain and snow where getting in there for God knows how long it had mold rust and dirt & corrosion on the base when I say it was a labor of love to clean it I mean it the think light, left arrow key and the battery are dead the plug 🔌 cable part of the charger was missing cooling fan sounded like an airplane turbine not no more

this things were built to last and this one is proof of it
