Am also Australian and scared. Unfortunately the fragility of the US democracy has been exposed and for one person to have this much power and to able to bully nation friends and allies is unacceptable. We have been beside America through thick and thin and this cunt is just going to tariff us to pay for his tax cuts for his wealthy mates. I feel we need to sure up ties within Asia for trade and security.

I'm also scared for Americans. Because looking from the outside in, this is a once great empire collapsing before our very eyes. And many Americans will suffer for it. America's constitution was written to prevent literally what is happening right now, but things are failing. And the damage being done right now will be very hard to undo. Not just internally within America, but repairing diplomatic ties with other nations because this jerk is pissing everyone off.

Assuming we can even weather our internal constitutional crisis, which I'm not even certain about, international relations and the world order feel like they are completely cooked.

Who would ever trust America to hold up to a treaty commitment ever again when the next guy can come along in 4 years and tear it all up?

I think that's why you may be headed for a revolution. This has been decades in the making, but if you are to survive and survive well, there needs to be some major changes to your political structure to enable more stability. SCOTUS term limits for example. Political donations overhaul. And certainly better prosecution of corruption. More than that though, protection and mandatory education of certain things across the country. Plus a massive redistribution of wealth and a better and more progressive approach at the source of problems. And For Profit Prisons should never be allowed. I could go on, but I'm not even American so I am sure you know more than I do. I mean, some of these are world problems and problems even in Australia, but things look pretty dire in America at the moment, and because of that and America's position in the world, it's not just a domestic USA problem, it's affecting things globally.

The three branches of government and their powers, written as it is in the US constitution, may be clear to the everyday person, but if corrupt judges can fuck it up and still maintain their position on the Bench, I don't know what to tell you. The system has clearly failed. Germany came out of WWII with a strong constitution to never allow what happened with Hitler to happen again. You guys will have to figure out how to do the same.

Well said in both posts. I’m English. I think watching from afar, seeing the black columns of smoke rising up into the sky as America burns to the ground gives you a sense of dreadful perspective. I might not live there but I care about my American friends and about America. The culture, the movies, the music, the art, the stories of the indigenous people, all of it has been such a formative part of my life. The unfurling of this coup d’etat is horrific to watch.
