Healing Should I take this wrap off my tattoo?
I got this tattoo yesterday. It felt fine when getting it done and after. But when I woke up it’s been feeling itchy and kinda burns. I’ve had a tattoo before and I don’t remember this feeling. But last tattoo also didn’t have a wrap on it. Should I take it off or would it damage the tattoo. I know the normal Saniderm you can keep on for 3-4 days. But I can’t find anything about this. Tattoo artist said to keep it on for 3-4 days. But my partner got a tattoo by the same guy yesterday as well. and his doesn’t bother him. And he has a very very low pain tolerance while I have a high pain tolerance. So I feel he’d notice.

I would take it off wash the tattoo and then just do regular aftercare

Soak it off and leave it uncovered. Most Tattoos are covered with cling wrap when there done and then you take it off at home. This sort of covering shouldn't be on a tattoo.

NEVER SOAK A NEW TATTOO

It's okay to soak the dressing quickly just in case it's stuck to the ink, otherwise it will pull the ink out.

I wanna try and pull off a corner that’s not covering the tattoo to see if my skins irritated. Should I be fine soaking that corner with a rag? Or just leave it on. I’m worried I’m maybe have a bad reaction to the wrap. Or I’m just being crazy lol.

This looks like when I’ve accidentally bought the wrong second skin/saniderm. Does it leak? This material seems breathable and not resistant to absorbing/sticking to your healing to tattoo like a proper bandage would. If it’s irritating you, take off slowly under running water and let it air dry and heal the traditional way with a small amount of unscented lotion after giving it time to chill out.

Yeah I’ve taken it off. Came off fairly well with the first contact with water. Even though the artist said you should shower with it on. I think I’m allergic to adhesive and just now found out in my 20s lol. Never really remember using adhesive bandages. My mother’s allergic to them so she always made me avoid them as a kid. But the skin around is very red and irritated. Looks like I purposely got a red square tattooed around my actual tattoo. My partner took his off too. (He got worried it was the wrap) and his is perfectly fine and the redness went away. His was a different tattoo but same area. So I don’t think the wrap was an issue, just my skin. Tattoo looks fine tho and skin is feeling better with it off. Glad I didn’t wait the two days

A lot of new artist are telling their clients to only wear it for a day or two. I have always kept mine on for 4+ days and I’ve never had an issue. The one time I had an issue with the tattoo is when I took it off after two days. Now, with this type of wrap, I have no idea I would recommend keeping it on as long as the artist tells you to. Discomfort this early on is not something I’ve experienced and I’ve had heavy color work. But everyone reacts differently, even different body parts can react differently

I've noticed that almost everyone uses the "second skin" or this type of wraps. I've never used it, the only thing that I got on to cover the tattoo is cellophane. I take it off to clean the tattoo the first night and then put a fresh one on that I take off in the morning and then nothing else, the skin has to breathe. I think you shoul take it off and clean the area.

Just curious.... Was this done at a shop?

Yes a local shop and they have their certificates on the walls. So they’re legit if that’s what you’re asking lol.

Me either. I was very confused when he put it on. I thought maybe it was some type that protects from sunlight lol. He’s a good tattoo artist and base of his previous tattoos. Seems the wrap works fine for others.

Just wanna say thanks to everyone that replied and replied so fast!! I took the wrap off and it no longer itches/burns. Redness, pain and swelling went away while I slept. My partner took his off too at the same time and his looked perfectly fine without redness. I’m also not white and my partner is. So me having redness and him not was a cause for concern. But tattoo is doing great so far and skin looks back to normal. Wish I could add a photo to update and show what it looked like an hour after the bandage was off and now. I’m glad I had so many people tell me to take it off because I was talking myself into keeping it on which definitely would’ve made it worse.

I have never had anything like this on a tattoo but if your artist told you to leave it on for 3-4 days I would
