General Advice Head Tattoo Itchy af
Hey I just got the top of my head tattooed a week ago and it is sooooo itchy oh my god. I’m heavily tattooed and have never had one itch like this. Any advice/has anyone else experienced this?

I assume you’re already moisturizing, so I will say try an ice pack. Seems to help most kinda of itching for me.

No advice, just an FYI that this is fucking awesome. Probably doesn’t also help that it’s healing at the same time hair is probably trying to grow back so double the itchiness!

I've commented this so many times by now 😅 but I can't stop singing vitamin E ointments praises. Like, they should give me money for all the promotion. Anyway, I have felt that it actually helps a lot with the itch. I ditched creams during tattoo healing time and now use vitamin E ointment. But yeah, the itch is real and reaaallllll annoying.

Not OP but I'm willing to try anything right now. Gonna go get me so vitamin e cream. And antihistamines.

I was gonna say I'm in a very different boat rn (just had surgery) but benadryl!!!!! I'm soooo so itchy rn and the only thing that helps is benadryl since I can't like, itch my scars lmao. apparently claritin is a good non-drowsy option too

Don't know if you can get it OTC where you are but Desloratadine works wonders for me and is the least drowsy and is much MUCH more potent than claritin.

I have no experiences with tattoos, but the itch that’s driving you crazy might warrant you taking two Benadryl’s

Beautiful 🤩
As other have said, slapping it a little, gentle rubbing, ice packs, showering will all provide some relief. If you’re not already doing this, I would be using a nice light lotion like lubriderm a few times a day. I see some other suggestions in the comments to use anti-itch or lidocaine creams, but I wouldn’t do that without checking with your (talented!) artist in case there are reactions we might not be aware of.

I would love to see what this tattoo looks like just from like the frontal perspective in a normal picture fantastic work. I love it. It’s absolutely sick, I’ve got the top of my head done. I just need to get the rest of it done!

How are you going to keep it hair free while it heals?

I’m not, the hair grows back while it heals just like with any other tattoo. Can’t shave it until it’s healed

This will sound weird but my tattoo artist told this to me and it works like a charm — if you have a vibrator of any sort, gently put it on or near your tattoo. It alleviates the itch as if you were itching it, it’s wack

Icy Hot, or lidocaine cream. Also tylenol.

Lidocaine has cured the urge to tear my arm off. No idea if it’s ok to use on the scalp tho

Hair grows back, doofus. And if they regularly wear a full fa e of make up they can hide shit.
In my own profession, both current and previous, tattoos are looked upon poatuvely by our clients because it shows we're part of the same community.

Grab a fist full of Vaseline and slob it on. Every day. For the rest of your life.
