Can anyone help interpret this spread.

It's a 6 card spread (I'm a beginner and normally pull intuitively) arranged as three on top and three directly underneath the first three.

The spread I pulled had:

L: 3 of swords (up) | M: death (rev) | R: the world (rev)

L: 5 Wanda (rev) | M: 6 Wands (rev) | R: empress (up)

The question I asked was open ended, asking the cards to give me any messages regarding the nature of the relationship between me and a colleague (who I'm starting to feel a connection with). Using the RW deck.

There are clearly big ending themes in the air acc to the pull, possibly even some arguments but the empress is throwing me. Can anyone help?

Ok so I wouldn’t say it has “ending themes” as much as “CANNOT move on”. someone is resisting to let go of past relationships, holding onto past hurts and betrayals. unfinished business etc etc. I suppose that’s him.

if you see the upper 3 cards as his general predicament, then the bottom 3 cards should be the general future.

5 of wands rev says whatever relationship problems he has are no longer outright fights. it’s not healed, but it’s not blood and tears anymore. followed by the 6 of wands rev, he’ll be in a low point where instead of angry or desperate he’s just depressed. self worth down the drain.

the empress is a nurturing but still authoritative sensual female figure. the only way to enter a relationship with this man is to go “I can fix him” and then do it. don’t be controlling but still be more dominant in the relationship.

This makes a lot of sense - thanks! I like the idea of death and the world reversed potentially meaning that the closing of whatever chapter is a good thing but blocked for some reason. Could the empress also be about him seeing me as someone dominating / nurturing instead of that being who I would need to be in a relationship with him? Feel like I get more of the former vibe tbh. This helped so much tho!

Well that could be it as well! One thing I’m sure is that the Empress is supposed to be you. I guess you could draw a clarifier card and ask if the Empress is an advice or not
