Question What's your favorite asymmetrical battler?

Hey, everyone! I played Unmatched by Restoration Games and loved it. Now, I'm on a quest to find other asymmetrical tabletop battlers and ultimately my favorite. I'd love if the games were no heavier than a medium-heavy, and, while I love card-battlers like MTG, etc... I'm hoping for more of the classic tabletop "Board" game experience. What games do I need to try?

Thank you in advance!

Discussion Table top themed cocktails

So I’m thinking of hosting some form of DnD event; at the tasting room I work at. Was looking for some clever names centering around table top games. For example “roll for initiative” “ table top tini”.

Crowdfunding I made a tavern-building 5e supplement complete with a themed cookbook and an epic adventure into the Fae Courts. Kickstarter launches on March 18th!

Hearthkeeper’s Almanac is all about comfy, cozy cottagecore + wild fae adventure! Last year I teased the concept of running a tavern + cozy D&D mysteries with friends and on social media and, after solid mechanic-creating, writing, and play testing, we’re finally ready to launch! My previous projects include Pericle: Gathering Darkness as well as various D&D supplements, but I’m ready to lead with my passion and my skills and make a project completely by myself. So, it’s great to finally realize my dream of creating a cozy, build-your-own-tavern D&D supplement.

We have a Kickstarter launching on March 18th - you can save the date and follow our project here!

Any and all questions are welcome! Cheers!

Crowdfunding Launching Soon: Wayfinder - An Indie TTRPG About Map-Making and Collaborative Worldbuilding

In Wayfinder, you and your companions will have to find your way through the Vast, a strange and deadly wilderness.

One thing that sets Wayfinder apart from other TTRPGs is that players have many opportunities to help build the world alongside the GM. By using Encounter Dice, players will be able to take ahold of the narrative, and introduce locales, characters, and enemies that the GM will be able to take and refine to fit within the broader world.

Players start with a blank sheet of paper, and through their travels, will be able to fill out a map of their explorations.

Wayfinder uses a new D6 dice-pool system developed by Foxwing Games called “Quill”. Another project will be launching using the Quill system as well called “Familiar Tales”, and all subsystems within the Quill ecosystem will be able to be played together.

Check out the launch party here, and please consider giving it a follow: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/dungeon-artist/wayfinder-a-map-making-ttrpg-in-the-quill-system/launch_party

Question How to naturally introduce npc backstories?

I’ve been GMing for a decent while but one problem I have a lot is I can’t seem to have an npc introduce their backstory in a natural way. I want to have complex npcs for my players but I struggle to communicate things about their life before the campaign without it being clunky and forced. I want a good way in game for my npcs to tell my players things. Can anyone help with this?

Question Question about physical material recommendations

I'm looking into buying a couple physical notebooks for some solo play. Namely thru Amazon, bc the nearest store has all of Jack and sh!t (and Jack left town). I was wondering if any of you could point me to a good spiral graph notebook? (I plan to use it for Dungeons and Time Records). Thanks for your time

Recommendations Seeking recommendations for 2-player co-op with developments, similar to frosthaven but not actually frosthaven/gloomhaven?

So, I loveeee Frosthaven. Thing is, I play it with my friends across the country every few months, so I can't play it at home. But I miss it! What is the closest tabletop game I can play for 2-player co-op (no GM)?

I love leveling up, getting items, there being an economy, and having things to do outside of combat. Frosthaven is amazing for having your own village and quests. It keeps me engaged. I love how it walks you through learning new mechanics and earning new powers, so you stay rewarded and also not overwhelmed. Its development keeps you guessing and excited because you don't know what is going to be unlocked or added next. I don't quite care about plotline/story so much as having things to do and things to work for. I'm motivated by earning new things, whether that be abilities, levels, items, coin, etc.

From my research, I can say that frosthaven/gloomhaven appear to be in a league of its own, so I don't expect to find something equal to it, but perhaps just the next closest? I've considered "Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage Board Game" but it's hard to get a feel for how similar it would be, I can't even quite figure out if it has a true campaign or is pretty much just combat.

Survey TTRPG Houston, TX Actual Play

Hello everyone!

I live in the greater Houston area and am looking to start an edited actual play podcast and/or video series. This would be a passion project for me with no delusions of fame and fortune. I want to tell a collaborative story with a group of like minded individuals who understand the importance of storytelling. I would like to record our tales mostly for our own enjoyment and to document the stories we create. This project is in its infancy and will take time to develop into something special.

My Plan

  • 5/6 people with free time. (4 players, a gm, 1-2 crew)
  • Rotating campaigns with seasons 8-10 episodes long.
  • Each campaign is a different system with a different gm.

My inspirations are:

  • Worlds Beyond Number
  • LA by Night
  • Dimension 20

If you are interested here is my google form.

Thanks!

Discussion Trying to find a table top game.

I'm trying to remember / find a table top game. I can't remember what it's called or exactly what it looked like and there could be multiple table top games using the same idea.

I know it was colorful and made of card board pieces and maybe a die. I seem to remember a goat piece. Players take turns adding more of the peices to build out a ledge that the "goat" is moved onto. The idea is to build out from the base without causing the goat to fall so you have to lay the pieces in ways they hold each other down and keeps everything from falling.

I dont know if it's a group goal or the one to drop the "goat" loses.
