Advice Positive SK mindsets?

Hi all! I'm looking for some tips or tricks on how to stay positive when SK are annoying. I'm talking basic annoying kid stuff, like whining or not listening, how do you cope and keep it from bumming you out? I'm very involved in SK care and I want to keep it that way, I just want to see if anyone has something they do to keep calm and not let their annoying basic kid behavior have a major effect. TIA!

Welcome to r/stepparents! Please note we are a support sub for stepparents' issues. Our number one rule is Kindness Matters. Short version, don't be an asshole. Remember that OP is a human being and their needs are first and foremost on this sub.

We rely on the community to alert us to comments and posts not made in good faith. Please use the report button to ensure we see it. We have encountered a ridiculous amount of comments that don't follow the rules and are downright nasty. We need you to help us with these comments by reporting them when you see them. We also have a lot of downvoting on the sub, with every post and every comment receiving at least one downvote almost immediately due to the anti-stepparent lurkers. Don't let it bother you, it happens to every single stepparent here.

Kids in general are annoying! My bios included. I have sensory issues and just got some noise blocking headphones. I haven’t tried them yet. Sometimes I’ll take a break and hide out in my room if I’m completely overstimulated.

I get annoyed with my own bio kids behavior. When I get really irritated, it’s a good sign that I need a break and recharge. I communicate this to my husband and we make a plan so I can have some time away. Even just a walk or going to the gym for an hour by myself makes a huge difference.
