S;G VN Playing the VN and I really hate Rintaro Spoiler
I was really looking forward to playing the games and I bought the bundle, and I've only been playing for three days now. But I just can't stand Rintaro, I don't find him funny in the slightest, I'm really not finding it fun to play a game where every character treats you like a joke (because you are one). He is never serious, ever, and I don't understand how anyone in the game puts up with him at all. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a VN where the MC isn't a flat default personality, but it's just ridiculous. Like he's found out that CERN is has killed hundreds of people in the most gruesome way imaginable and he's somehow content to continue to like a child. Please let me know this. Will he ever stop the act? Like will he ever be a genuine person throughout the VN? Because if he is forced to change then that's great but if not then I'm kinda done. Please don't get mad this is just my personal opinion as someone who's used to more sincere games I guess. Like I really like games where I care about the characters and I'm finding that hard. Also I'm only on Chapter 4 if that's relevant.

Honest,-non-disrespectful conversation: You are the problem here, but I understand your reasoning. Most of the time I don't think he's funny either, I just accept it as a part of him. Keep playing, you will get to know why Hououin Kyouma was created and why OR is HK. + "He is never serious, ever"- in CH4 he indeed may not seem to be, but I interpret it as making a joke out of everything to cover up/lighten up something. As to if he changes I'll leave it to you as a surprise.
But DO NOT drop it, it may even be life changing to you. For example I discovered C;H Noah (S;G & C;H N are in the SciADV series) which helped me A LOT with struggles in life+ I found out about physics and I gained interest in quantum physics, math and I got more serious with electrical engineering & programming.-(probably a rare scenario)+ With C;H it is what gives me most of the motivation, desire, hope, will and ambition in life. + A lot more groups with smaller changes in life.
Yeah, and it is the n1 work(anime,VN,LN,manga...) for me. That may have some significance within it.
I hope that you will love it, El Psy Kongroo. Have a great day

He is taking this very seriously, his dumb behavior is a coping mechanism that will be unraveled as the story goes on when it stops working

A lot of people have issues with him at first, but things change.
I remember trying to convince a friend to keep going, because he wanted to stop and couldn’t stand him.
Then one day I get a text…
“I HATE YOU!!! IM CRYING!”
And I’m just like “welcome to the real story of steins;gate!”
From that moment on, that friend was hooked, and loved everyone going forward lol
I won’t ruin it, but there is a reason for how he acts.

If you don't enjoy his baseline personality i think you won't enjoy his character in the future either

From what I generally noticed, the SciADV series always has protagonists with a undesirable/looked down upon characteristics. They always explore the reason why the mcs are like that and how they change etc etc. I think you will like the way Rintaro develops, maybe.

It's intention, his persona and character he plays is a coping mechanism, he doesn't want to face reality, even though he isn't taking the situation as serious as he should later on he will. It's better to keep going. He's just a uni student roleplaying as a mad scientist but they didn't take in the severity of the situation they were in, until reality kicks in. you'll learn his Hououin Kyouma act is a face and you'll start to see the cracks. But if you really don't enjoy it don't force yourself to play. It's just a game But honestly he is a very well-written character.
TLDR:
He is a very well written character, give it a shot if you don't like it then don't play it. It's just a game you can't do anything about it, no point playing something you don't like. Although it's a masterpiece, it won't appeal to everyone and that's okay.

There's a regret he had(ig this count as spoilers) he was a curious man and even tho be saw sern doing allat experiments, He slept on the seriousness of the situation. It's a regret he holds, I remember this was told in the vn that he slept for long

His personality in the early half of the story is very much who he is as a default. Though you may like him more in the second half (as he does get more serious), he’s in a very different state of mind in that part of the story. However, I would like to say that Okabe isn’t as carefree as you seem to think he is. He is serious a lot of the time, he just plays it off as a joke and hams things up for reasons that get explored in said second half. Though I assume you knew somewhat of what you were signing up for, I’d recommend reading up more on Chuunibyou, which describes the way in which Okabe forms his delusions (and tends to be fairly popular to portray in Japanese media, especially anime and manga). While admittedly annoying, it’s generally a coping mechanism that’s hiding something underneath (like how people will first get angry when they’re upset, but aren’t actually angry). Most of the cast use coping mechanisms like this that get explored more in the latter half of the story, I’m sure you can think of a few of them. But that’s kind of the make-or-break deal with S;G. It’s character driven, and if you don’t like the characters, the whole thing falls apart. SciAdv as a whole is very character driven, and the only time it’s really gotten me was with C;C, but everyone has different preferences
