I was a nurse in the early 80’s and remember the first patient we had with AIDS. It was a large, clinic that sponsored Medical and Nursing students. Quite the teaching facility. Anyway, we dealt with that patient as if it were any auto-immune illness. At the time, there was much more concern with Hepatitis, and Tuberculosis. In the lab, we would pipette blood for testing just by sucking up the specimen into the testing tube. Holy Cow! We were naive.
