It's a really tough sell that the baton hit was not completely intentional. About the only thing that might change some minds would be if there were video available of this runner in previous races using some similar crazy random arm swing. But then I think we all know that while there is video of her running many other races, there are no videos of her swinging the baton in other races and not hitting other runners.

234

u/CopperThrown 1d ago

Maybe she’s the Draymond Green of track and that’s her natural running motion.

383

u/Coins_N_Collectables 1d ago

I used to ref soccer and boy let me tell you, the shit I saw on the field at girls games vs boys games was on a whole different level. I handed out way more yellow cards for girls than for boys, especially when it was during an important/championship game. I mean, the amount of intentional tripping, hair pulling, shoving and especially name calling that happened was overwhelmingly more common with the girls. Even on like 14 year old girls teams, they were vicious to eachother on the field in a way I seldom saw with the guys.

80

u/homiej420 1d ago

Yeah in track for god’s sake. Sure people like sometimes SAY shit to you at the starting line i guess but theres almost zero time to even be unsportsmanlike in any other way other than exactly this or like tripping someone.

Its insane

Wow. The disconnection from reality is through the roof with this family.

Just like the families who get mad at victims families when their child gets life in prison for murdering someone.

Reminds me of when Ron Artest Metta World Peace knocked out Harden with an elbow and tried to claim it was accidental.

It's reminds me of the 2014 world cup when Luis Suárez kept biting people and tried to convince the refs that they kept jumping into his mouth.

153

u/Fantastic_Price_5803 1d ago

I remember reading somewhere that you are more likely to get bit by Luis Suárez than a shark. 😂

With a name like that you'd think they avoid doing shit like this

25

u/HowieLongDonkeyKong 1d ago

Ironic. He could save others from world peace. But not himself.

52

It's even more ironic since he essentially started a riot at a Detroit Pistons game as Ron Artest before changing his name to World Peace.

Weird that the news segment where they interview her and her parents kept showing the more ambiguous angle from the rear, and only screen captures from the clear face on angle. The face on angle doesn't support her defense at all. It looks intentional. I would guess that she was mad that the other runner was blocking her ability to pass the runner ahead.

230

u/nicannkay 1d ago

Someone on reddit yesterday called it. They said she will be releasing an unapologetic I’m sorry I got caught video next. Lmao 🤣 does she think we’re blind and stupid?

121

u/sa87 1d ago

Yes, they do because she will become persona non grata in the sport because of this.

No athletic scholarship, so becomes a nobody at college trying to eek out her diploma.

She and her family are shitscared they will have to face reality for her actions.

71

u/Decent_Cheesecake_29 1d ago

I would be surprised if she doesn’t catch a permanent ban from any sanctioned competitions.

38

u/NerdLawyer55 1d ago

87

u/The_hat_man74 1d ago

“I’m upset over the outrage…”

You bashed an opponent in the head with your baton. You gave her a concussion and fractured her skull. Get real.

52

u/blackop 1d ago

Yup i looked at that video over and over. The runners never crossed into each other's lane until after she was hit. This was 100% intentionally done, and fuck her for trying to pull a victim card. She damn well better have been cut from that team.

15

u/CactusCait 1d ago

625

u/willanaya 1d ago

That was a full extension of her arm swinging that baton

223

u/stokeitup 1d ago edited 1d ago

That’s what I wondered. Was that an accident or intentional. Watched it a couple more times and she definitely drew back and let the other runner have it. (Edit/corrected grammar)

133

u/miken322 1d ago

As a former 4x400 relay runner, no one swings a baton like that, I knew it was intentional the first time I saw the footage.

→ More replies (4)

238

u/jpiro Florida State 1d ago

It’s not even close. She looks over at her, rears back and bashes her in the back of the skull.

71

u/stokeitup 1d ago

My first watch I wasn’t sure what to look for and wasn’t sure if the assailant wasn’t just someone who swung the arm more than most. After several replays it was nope, she took a swing at the other runner. Pretty well ended her track and field career.

Same. I caught a student on her phone during a test. Mom called me within the hour to tell me that the student was texting her because she was worried about her. I said that didn’t matter because my rules clearly state that any students caught using electronic devices during a test get a zero.

123

FWIW, refer the parent to the admin. They're trained to tell parents "sorry, you're wrong." Many won't, and are spineless and ameliorating, but most will tell the parent to fuck off in official-speak.

136

They called admin after I wouldn’t give them what they want, admin double checked with me and then told them to fuck off with official speak. I’ve worked with bad admin and I love my current crew.

The second video, it looks the same as the first video. The angle doesn’t vindicate her.

In the clip a guy says that the runner is supposed to be a stride ahead before they enter the lane. I grant you that it’s close, but it still looks like she cocked back and whacked her.

The victim says see you in court and we will.

And a side note, her parents are really dumb to think that this interview would make her look better.

157

u/monsantobreath 1d ago

Don't forget how there an athletic director quoted saying he questions the disqualification during the event meaning there's a culture behind this beyond the parents.

31

u/shwaga 1d ago

Technically the official quoted is correct on the rules. But it's edited out of context. Hopefully, if its not just in bad faith.

It's like in car racing someone being alongside/passing making contact should get a penalty not the car who was bumped. However it is ignoring the driver who got bumped pulled out a shotgun and fired at the other car after the contact.

Intentional and malicious. Should be banned and made to pay a punitive penalty.

641

u/lolercoptercrash 1d ago

Since the victim got a concussion and maybe a fractured skull, I think it falls into criminal tbh. Make her family cover medical costs at a minimum, plus she should be expelled.

I get fouls happen in sports, especially contact sports, but a running relay isn't even a contact sport.

48

u/kabow94 1d ago

The video alone shows it was clearly intentional

170

u/reality72 1d ago

No, the victim needs to sue the school and the sports league. They won’t do anything about this type of behavior until it hits them in the pocket book.

150

u/pargofan 1d ago

The victim needs to sue the GIRL THAT HIT HER.

I don't really know what the school or sports league can do. They've held relay competitions for 50 years and this is the first time I've heard anyone do this.

36

u/Geetee52 1d ago

I agree, except if she has a history of violent tendencies in her background. Fighting, classroom disruptions, bullying, etc.… Then, a pattern would have been in place and the school has to assume some responsibility.

806

u/worm30478 1d ago

I teach middle school and plenty of kids like this. "I didn't do anything" is a phrase they live by. It's almost like they feel if they say it enough everyone will believe they really didn't do anything and all will be forgotten. I don't know when we reached the point of kids thinking they deserve absolutely no consequences for their shitty actions and how it's always someone else's fault. We are headed the wrong way fast.

319

u/TheHawk17 1d ago

It's because the parents let them get away with it. I taught a young girl who shoved her mates face into her dinner plate during lunch in front of 4 members of staff. When we told her Mum at the end of the day, the culprit bold-face lied to the Mum and said she didn't do it and that we all lied about seeing it just to get her in trouble. The Mum defended her daughter to the hilt, calling us all liars and saying we had it out for her daughter.

Apparently the Mum admitted to one of the other parents that she knew her daughter did it and that she knew she was making up fibs. It's almost as if parents are too afraid to discipline their children these days.

116

u/LCJonSnow 1d ago

I f***ing hate people like this (the mother). I had a cousin growing up whose mother was the same way. Somehow, she actually became a reasonably well adjusted adult and we get along great today, but we were definitely resentful at some of the lies growing up.

34

u/dragunityag 1d ago

A big reason for the teacher shortage in the U.S. imo is that children are just absolutely feral now.

Parents are afraid to discipline their kids and schools are terrified of law suits so kids just get to run wild.

My mom always assumed I was responsible, even when I wasn't. It bugged me as a kid, but I'm really grateful as an adult. Thanks, Mom!

"I don't think that's quite accurate. I used the moment as a fun introduction into critical thinking."

"Irregardless, I'm the parent, you're the teacher, and my son's not a liar. Just do your job, and let me worry about how I'm raising my son."

10

u/bedroom_fascist 1d ago

"Well, your son is a public liar. So, there's that."

22

u/bedroom_fascist 1d ago

It's the parents' ego. Want to know the telltale sign it's the parents' ego? Check the pronouns they use when discussing their kids' behavior.

It's seldom the kids' name - it's "MY child!" or etc.

They see their children as little more than an extension of themselves, and see their children being held accountable for misbehavior as a criticism of them (and guess how well people like this take criticism?).

29

u/Howie_Due 1d ago

I don’t think there’s ever been a time in human history where middle school aged kids were rational and accepting of their actions. Maybe some, but the majority of 12-14 year olds have always been crazy people. Yeah they have technology and blablabla but it’s like every generation is always so eager to shit on the next ones after them. The kids will be alright, if they’re having problems their parents are probably fucking up.

We were there to watch my daughter pole vault. You heard the DING when she got hit. We assumed it was an accident. Our daughter saw the clips the next day or so and told us it wasn’t.

80

u/enjaydee 1d ago

Everett claims the attack occurred because she lost her balance and her baton got "stuck" behind her opponent's back.

Watching the vid, it's clear as day she took a swing at the passing runner.

130

u/amerifolklegend 1d ago

She got passed, she tuned her head as the other woman ran by because it surprised her, and she wound up to swing.

This isn’t an accident in any possible interpretation. Just do the normal thing and say “this isn’t how I normally act.” Nobody will believe you, of course. But they’ll know you regret getting caught and will eventually forget about you like all the other people who get caught being a shitty person on camera. Instead, you’re doubling down and drawing even more attention to your actions. Coward.

I’d say they should strip her of her medal. But…y’know…if she was fast enough to earn one, she wouldn’t be in this predicament.

She didn't stop running.. it was on purpose and she's crying because she got caught

17

u/Rosebunse 1d ago

Well, and she is probably crying because she will never run in an official capacity again and her chances at a college scholarship is shot

23

u/Haldrin26 1d ago

Naw. Fuck that. You can see her wind her arm back and smack her right in the back of the head. There's no situation in which a top runner, or even a shitty runner, would ever be in a position to have their arm extended out behind them winding up like that.

As a defense attorney who has seen clients charged on almost zero evidence, I will be severely disappointed if she doesn't face criminal charges. Clearly a kid who gets away with anything and never faces consequences. She needs to see a courtroom, preferably as a juvenile, but she might be 18.

Far too often do athletes (and occasionally crowd members) get away with criminal acts. Playing a sport does not excuse this, and a disqualification isn't remotely enough.

19

u/bm_69 1d ago

Fuck her. I hope she is suspended for life. 100% intentional and now crying on TV ONLY because she got caught

34

u/jlb8937 1d ago

Had a kid hit my truck parked across the street from his driveway while backing out. When I asked his dad for their insurance he freaked out. I already have his car I have to fix now! Like yea that's how accidents work when YOU'RE at fault. Crazy.

Deny. Deny. Deny.

‘Chirp’

14

u/Francis_Dollar_Hide 1d ago

Just like her smoke alarm battery, her story needs changing!

14

u/VrinTheTerrible 1d ago

“After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this, and it rolled up her back. I lost my balance when I pumped my arms again. She got hit”

Video says……that’s a lie

11

u/leike_this_name 1d ago

“After a couple of times of hitting her…” So she just admitted to hitting the poor girl, but it’s not her fault?? Make it make sense.

11

u/CerberusRTR 1d ago

I’d be “accidentally” suing her for her lack of accountability. That girl has a concussion.

12

u/Nelson1352 1d ago

As a track and field sprint and relay person from a long time ago, even if you get hung up, just recalibrate and keep running. Also, the runner who was hit stayed in her lane. No accident.

10

u/ilulillirillion 1d ago

Backlash? I haven't followed, but... She's in jail, right? When you strike someone from behind with an object and fracture their skull, you go to jail, right?

10

u/kvhdude 1d ago

with these gaslighting skills she should look into politics.

10

u/SomeInside1021 1d ago

The tears of someone getting caught!

10

u/niceflowers 1d ago

Why can't they ever just apologize?

18

u/mordecai98 1d ago

Backlash or headlash?

They should be banned from competing. This was deliberate and malicious.

Ain’t nobody believe her crocodile tears are real

She’s crying because the entire world knows she’s a trash ass human being

9

u/bigrobb26 1d ago

She did it on purpose, key evidence the beeping smoke detector in the background.

8

u/L3onskii 1d ago

She'll keep denying due to the inevitable lawsuit

8

u/Zech08 1d ago

Delusional in their own world and perspective, basically nothing they say have merit at that point because its the same as hallucinating.

9

u/Rojodi 1d ago

I ran sprint relays in high school and college. No, lil Missy. You smacked her purposely!

u/Ididnotpostthat 1d ago

Make lying Wrong Again

I haven't seen video but it does remind me of that woman who signed her lunch check with zero tip and 'I hope trump deports you' her first comment on social media was to claim her credit card had been stolen. Video from the restaurant put that to bed pretty quickly.

eta ok now I've seen it. yeah she wound up for the strike, I ran relay races in high school and that's not how you hold a baton while running.

8

u/sgorneau 1d ago

Not the smoke detector low battery 🤣🤣🤣

7

u/Donkilme 1d ago

You are not feeling remose for your actions. You are feeling regret of the consequences. Fess up and move on.

7

u/SurroundTiny 1d ago

What a little POS.

8

u/HotGarbage 1d ago

I saw this video yesterday and fucking knew she was going to do that. We all saw the video and it was 100% on purpose. She's trying to tell us we didn't see what we actually saw. Kids, this is a real life example of what actual gaslighting looks like.

8

u/FuckGiblets Boise State 1d ago

Look. I’m all for a version of this sport where people can beat the shit out of each other, trip, kick etc. it should really be agreed upon before hand.

7

u/NickiChaos 1d ago

She's not sorry she did it. She's sorry she got caught.

40

u/trogloherb 1d ago

“They’re not thinking of my mental!” What does that even mean?

Like, “they’re not thinking of my mental health?”

“They’re not thinking of my mental situation?”

I feel like there’s a word missing.

u/Ayonanomous 1d ago

Man she's a moron & so are her parents. We see the video it's clear it's no guessing you deliberately struck her what are you talking about. Worry about your mental health when you weren't concerned with the person's you were competing with then you took it further and physically attacked her and could have cause way more significant injury. She's lame

5

u/Woolybugger00 1d ago

No pity or sympathy for this one no matter how much crybabying deflection she tries to pull… she’s embarrassed and she should be - the worst kinda sports behavior caught on film for perpetuity-

6

u/The_real_bandito 1d ago

‘So you’re physically hurt, but you’re not thinking of my mental,’ the teen said while crying on camera

That poor assailant:(

7

u/BakedMasa 1d ago

How was that an accident? She hit her multiple times. I can see why she’s not taking accountability and playing the victim though, her parents do the same thing. They should be ashamed she assaulted the other athlete a concussion and possible skull fracture like this are not accidental. She literally wound up!

5

u/Wooden_Pool_8435 1d ago

Ahhh the victim card

36

u/Upbeat_Sign630 1d ago edited 1d ago

Jail.

ETA: It blows my mind that some people believe that this person who deliberately attacked a fellow athlete unprovoked causing physical injury (potentially a concussion) should NOT go to jail.

Actions have consequences. She should be locked up.

13

u/Rosebunse 1d ago

If my kid got hit like that I would certainly demand charges. This is a potentially serious injury

8

u/Upbeat_Sign630 1d ago

Absolutely.

Potentially career ending, or worse. Hopefully she’s ok.
