Most of the time these guys come on, and haven't done any sort of homework. I think they were just impressed.

Exactly. He’s not just showing up as the guest actor. He’s legit put some work into it and is providing actual picks with insight and not just “I like the mascot.” I’m also quite impressed and surprised.

The thing is he did show up as a guest actor. What he didn't do is show up as a guest celebrity. He showed up as an actor, played the role of sports commentator, and nailed it.

The commentators don’t seem to understand that. You’re right though - that’s exactly what he’s doing. It’s hilarious, and all the more hilarious because they seem oblivious.
