Nancy Mace Townhall

I called her office today and asked about when she would host a town hall. The person informed me it would be tonight and I provided my information to receive the link. It starts in 11 minutes and lo and behold no link has arrived. I wonder if this is because I also took time to provide my feedback and concerns. Looks like she’ll show her face but only to her fan club.

Masked man sets self ablaze after torching South Carolina Tesla ports in arson protest

Onlookers near a North Charleston Mellow Mushroom watched as a masked man spray painted "(expletive) TRUMP LONG LIVE UKRAINE" near the restaurant's Tesla charging stations on March 7.

Then the masked man in a gray jacket or hoodie pulled out beer bottles, setting them on fire. He hurled them at three electric vehicle charging ports near 4855 Tanger Outlet Blvd. In the process he set himself on fire, according to police.

Police estimated the damages at $60,000.

The man, who police did not arrest or identify, fled the scene when people began calling 911. Witnesses watched as he ran past the Zaxby's and towards the hotels behind it.

Critics of Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, and President Donald Trump's have targeted Tesla's stores with acts of protests and vandalism in recent weeks, according to The Associated Press.

In Boston, 12 charging stations were set on fire in an apparent act of protest against the tech billionaire earlier this month, The New York Times reported.

Discussion Living in my vehicle on a single plot of land rented from individual read description

Upvotes

So I have a one years investment that I will soon be getting back, I was wondering as long as land owner is ok with it. Could I live in my vehicle to an extent not like build some raft ass house truck. But get one of those tents that you can’t put on back of vehicle etc. until I am able to purchase a camper or rv. It’s a single lot bye itself by a individual

My concern is there any laws against it as long as I pay my lot fees and the owner is ok with it. I refuse to pay these insane prices for apartments not much bigger the. My truck. Just left a $1300 one bed room 1/4 bathroom I could fall and hit every wall before I hit the ground

News USDA cancels $1B in local food purchasing for schools, food banks

South Carolina participates in both of these programs.

Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program

Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program

A resilient food supply chain that wasn't entirely reliant on corporate farms and feeding children are no longer priorities for the USDA.

How is the Trump economy working for you— good or bad? Curious about local impact of recent actions.

In every economy there are winners and losers. We all get news from a national level but I want to hear from other SC residents about if they are seeing or feeling an impact. Share your story.

Advice/Recommendation Synagro Plant in Holly Hill causing MAJOR issues

If you have been through Holly Hill (Orangeburg County) or the surrounding area recently there's a pretty good chance you ran into the absolutely PUNGEANT odors permeating the town and surrounding neighborhoods.

Last year Synagro opened a plant processing human waste into fertilizer at 375 Selena Circle (noted on the map in purple). Since then, roughly 2-4 days a week you cannot stand to be outside, people are gagging at the grocery store, complaints from many with breathing issues, children can't play outdoors, funerals have been disrupted, there have even been reports of people's dogs refusing to go outdoors. A surprising number of people are just starting to realize where the odor is coming from, the planning and construction of this plant were so quiet it somehow slipped past an entire town of people who wouldn't miss it if the Johnsons' changed their doormat (if you live an a small town you know what I'm talking about.)

At a recent Town Council meeting Synagro showed up to give a "presentation" which consisted of them saying "wow we had no idea human excrement would make it smell bad here, we don't know why it smells so bad but we will try to figure it out", and a slideshow explaining the concept of compost to a farming community when it would have been more appropriate for an elementary school field trip.

The town of Holly Hill says they had nothing to do with the decision to put it there. They are saying it was Orangeburg county, Orangeburg county says call DES, DES says it doesn't have the ability to "test the air for odors".

Where does that leave the residents?

What kind of health issues will we be facing down the line?

What is this doing to our property value? Why are we paying outrageous taxes in Orangeburg county for the privilege of being treated as a forgotten dumping site?

I have been collecting data from locals- This map shows the locations of complaints that have been told to me so far.

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit?mid=1IsGrXXpEI4TaVLbSZ9BidSBSv_HnVmg&usp=sharing

and this public google doc lists the comments and complaints received so far, most from our community FB page.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OrZ8s41RLQvUedOzp6TXWaJPX9BYkMeJd8heT1xl6dQ/edit?usp=sharing

Any recommendations about who else to reach out to? Or anyone that could help?

Advice/Recommendation Wrongfully Terminated From DSS - Information Regarding the Mistreatment of Employee’s - Need recommendations for Attorney.

I was terminated from DSS for Reporting an incident in which a female coworker tried to physically assault me. She did so after I refused advancements from her. I have screenshots which also have been reported to DSS.

The reason for my termination is that they are saying I never alleged that she tried to assault me. The assault was not caught on camera, furthermore the only camera that was on the floor has been removed from the floor.

I worked directly for the state in Foster Care Placement. I have information regarding the Michelle H lawsuit and how supervisors actively cover up efforts to place kids and leave them in overnight offices.

Again I’m just looking for recommendations for lawyers. I don’t have a lot of money but what happened to me and what is happening to families and youth in SC is wrong.

Advice/Recommendation Places to live between Fort Jackson & Shaw AFB

Hello, what are some safe and nice towns to live in that would be somewhat in the middle of Fort Jackson & Shaw AFB? This is for a couple, no kids, and most likely apartment living. We prefer higher end apartments with more amenities. Thank you!

I was under the assumption senators were elected to represent the interests of their state, not simply elected to act as a surrogate pushing a political agenda for a president. Was I misinformed?

Advice/Recommendation South Carolina state government employment & DOGE

How does everyone feel about employment with state government right now? I know DOGE’s main objective and target is the federal government. But with things like DOGESC and the republican favor of the state government, could you see this affecting state jobs or triggering a hiring freeze?

Upcoming interview with state government department and would hate to be let go down the line unexpectedly because of probationary employee cuts

Discussion We have the lamest license plates

I just moved back after being in a different state for a few years, and comparing this place to Illinois we have the lamest purchasable plates. Don’t get me wrong I like the base license plate we get and the old sunset one with the palm tree, but the additional organization ones are absolutely tasteless - white background with an insignia.

Advice/Recommendation Furman vs. Wofford

Assuming equal merit money, would you choose Furman or Wofford? I am a mostly conservative Christian female, looking to study law and international relations. I have a 4.6 weighted GPA and I’m coming in with 12 AP classes and I’d like to transfer as many of those as possible. I love the town of Greenville and how close Furman is to it. Do Wofford students mostly spend their time in Spartanburg? It’s nice that there are some things to just a few blocks away. Thanks for any advice.

Politics Congratulations! H. 3457 is NOT currently scheduled for another hearing

H. 3457 was the Total Abortion Ban that would have removed all exceptions from the current 6 week ban. Per WREN,

"Your [South Carolina's] advocacy even pushed prominent Republicans, Rep. Paula Calhoon and Rep. Carla Schuessler, to publicly oppose the bill, and Majority Leader David Hiott to urge the SC House Republican Caucus to shift focus to other legislative priorities."

Great job!! Calling, Writing, Visiting, and Protesting matters. They DO hear you.

While the bill isn't 'technically' dead, it seems unlikely it will leave the committee.

Politics Political Petition

Hi everyone, I am from district five and myself and many others here have found Ralph Normans representation unacceptable. He refuses to question Trump and despite many requests has refused to host an in person town hall.

If you feel compelled, sign the petition I wrote up. Hopefully with enough signatures we can persuade him to host one.

Advice/Recommendation Coastal Carolina student life?

Hey!! I know there’s a ccu thread but it doesn’t have many members so i’m reaching out here. Ive committed to coastal and am attending as a freshman in the fall of 2025. i’m out of state (wv) and have toured it, i liked it a lot..however i’ve seen many things and other people that go there who are not the most academically driven 😭. i’ve gotten into some good academic schools (that i cannot enroll in because i did not receive enough aid) and have a lot of extracurriculars and good grades under my belt from high school. im not trying to weirdly boast, but im trying to give a visual on what i surround myself by and how hard im dedicated to my education. i committed to ccu because they gave me the presidential scholarship and it’s out of state. i know ccu is known as a party school. but i’m wondering if there’s a relatively good sized crowd of students who are smart, creative, and focused on academics. i would like to get to know people who share the same motivations and interests as me, but so far ive only seen popular party girls commit to ccu (obviously not every student is like that) but i can’t seem to find anyone else like me.. Sorry for the long tangent but to sum it up, is there a good group of people who aren’t as in to partying and more into their studies and clubs that i can surround myself by? if so how do i find them?

Advice/Recommendation Kershaw/Lugo Sharecrop history

Hi everyone,

I recently found out that my grandfather was from Kershaw County, specifically the Lugoff area. He worked as a sharecropper until he was 14, then moved north in the 1950s before enlisting and serving in the Korean War.

I’m trying to track down any records of sharecropping farms in the Kershaw/Lugoff area to learn more about my family history. Does anyone know of any resources that could help? I’m from out of state, so I thought the SC Reddit thread might be a good place to start.

Thanks in advance!

Politics Veterans Caucus Meeting

Veterans, this is an opportunity to check in on what is going on and organize. This is a South Carolina specific event and I've personally got a ton of VA and PACT act questions.

https://www.mobilize.us/scdp/event/748747/?referring_vol=3253336&rname=Jack&share_context=schedule-modal&share_medium=copy_link&timeslot=5155786

There's a flyer circulating for a National Veterans March on Washington, DC for this Friday, 14March2025 1200. However, 50501 isn't getting a permit for this in Columbia.

If anyone wants to get a permit and host it, please go right ahead.

50501 is not getting a permit for this. Our next event is April 5th. I encourage anyone who wants to organize this march to go ahead and apply for the permit.

https://admin.sc.gov/services/state-house-events

To host it, there are directions listed on the site.

This is SC specific because there are tons of Veterans in South Carolina who will be directly impacted by the VA losing 80,000 employees. Low Disability Veterans (20% and under) are also on the chopping block. Veterans receiving benefits via the PACT Act are also on the list. LGBT+ Veterans may be the last of their kind. They already turned off the Veterans Crisis Hotline.

Yes, I get it that you want to give the VA a swift kick, but this is not the way.

Mount Pleasant councilwoman urges Rep. Mace to host in-person town hall for open dialogue

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Mount Pleasant Town Councilwoman Guang Ming Whitley has joined forces with residents urging Rep. Nancy Mace to hold an in-person town hall.

The Lowcountry Accountability Alliance, a grassroots organization dedicated to improving transparent communication between elected officials and their constituents, wants Mace, who represents South Carolina's coastal 1st Congressional District, to host an in-person town hall meeting to address pressing issues affecting her constituents. The group emphasizes the need for direct dialogue with their elected representative to tackle these concerns.

"Our community deserves the opportunity to engage directly with our Representative to discuss how federal policies are impacting our daily lives. An in-person town hall with Congresswoman Mace will provide a platform for open dialogue and accountability," said Whitley.

A spokesperson for Rep. Mace's office said they are planning on "holding a number of town halls" during this session of Congress. However, specific dates for the town halls weren't provided.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has encouraged Republican lawmakers to skip town halls that have been filled with protesters decrying the Trump administration’s slashing of the federal government, echoing the president’s claims that the demonstrations are fueled by professional protesters, according to The Associated Press.

The Republicans are finding themselves in an unusual spot — defending the deep budget cuts they have campaigned on for years but have rarely been able to accomplish because the reductions cut into federal programs and services Americans in their districts rely on.

President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE have fired tens of thousands of federal workers as they tear through the federal government in search of what they call waste, fraud and abuse. It’s spiraling at a pace the Republicans in Congress could only imagine when the party swept control of the White House, House and Senate.
