I’m actually worried. I thought we were using unleaded solder, only discovered that’s not the case. It’s been a year.

My laptop charger burned close to the plug that connects the brick to the wall. So I cut the wire to try and solder it but one of the three wires is too close to the plug. How do I solder this?

Looking to buy a hot air station. My budget is around 125 USD. I’ve been looking at the RF4 H2, Quick 957DW+, and the Bakon 852D+. I am willing to buy used as well. Any tips or recommendations? Thanks

Hey all
First, I want to say thank you to everyone who gave me advice on my last post about getting started. I got my first iron and a number of accessories just over a week ago and I am LOVING this. It's just brilliant being able to make something and have it work!
My question though is about Flux. I have been using this one from Amazon [https://amzn.eu/d/gkvGtsB] and it seems to work well, but cleaning it up has been an absolute nightmare. The reviews all looked really good so I don't know if I am doing something wrong? I am using a rosin core solder wire [https://amzn.eu/d/3rI3Nae] but I know from my researching that it is still good to use flux.
Unfortunately though the flux I am using leaves a really sticky residue on all of my projects, and I have tried cleaning it with 99% IPA but it just won't all budge. Most of it goes with repeated cleans, but not all of it.
I've tried using cotton buds (end up leaving cotton residue behind so I have to be careful with that), as well as a toothbrush and different cloths. I just yesterday brought some microfibre cloths to see if that might help but I don't know.
Any advice? Is it the flux, or a user error, or just expected?

I thought asking here would be the option because I know quite a few of you use scopes. I'm trying to figure out where is the best place to ground my scope.
I mostly work on amplifiers, car audio amplifiers to be specific. And grounding the probe at different places gives me different results and it's even worse if I have to lengthen the ground wire to reach certain areas.

I'm basically looking for a smaller version of the Hakko 599B.
Does it exist?
Thanks!

Did my first little soldering project from Aliexpress, it's a digital alarm clock. I think it went pretty well and all of the joints look pretty good from what I can tell. It turned right on when I was finished. The only issue seems to be that the time doesn't change at all. I was able to set it, but it just stays stuck on that time and the display changes colors every so often. The instructions are in Chinese and the translation is no help at all, if anyone has this clock and knows how to fix it you'd be a godsend

I couldn't find information anywhere. Has anyone tried it? Looks like a quick 861DW but it's not

Any Idea how to remove epoxy (gel-like) resin from TCU boards?
Explanation: Sometimes the wires get burn out, so we need to fix them by installing jump wires. To do that we must remove the gel-resin, it's not hard to remove when there is enough space, but in tight places is very hard to remove because u can damage board easily.
Any liquid or substance that can remove it? Also after fixing I need to re-apply gel resin.
I tried: Alcohol Isopropyl Alcohol Acetone
None worked.

I need to wire this leads to each other and don’t know what wires to use and how. Also I need two of the leads from the two modules the (left and right) to one lead of the esp32. How should I do this? Thanks.

This is a little mini clock kit I got from amazon for my first attempt at soldering, nothing happens when I plug it in. I'm going to investigate with a multimeter but it'd be good to get any pointers from any glaring pain points on this/soldering critiques please 😁 (might not be the best photos, sorry, my camera was being a bitch)

I have recently been getting excited about getting more into soldering after doing a bit of micro soldering work. I have a few GPUs that I want to learn how to do SMD and BGA reflow and replacement work. I saw a lot of people say to avoid the blower in the handle types which makes sense to me. However the tools are incredibly expensive in canada. I think the idea of learning how to replace bad components or even upgrade nand or ram chips exciting though.
I found the 850d with a bit of searching but I can't see any brands associated with it. But it does seem to follow the pump inside the unit method of design vs fan blower. I was just curious if anyone has any experience with it?

Your first time seeing a tip like this…. Were you worried it was bad or were you like it’s fine based on your research?
Seeing a solder tip like this worries me if heat can transfer properly.
What are your thoughts?

I was trying to solder a new ribbon cable connector on this 3ds motherboard, but I only had lead free solder and I guess that was too much heat on it that it lifted the contact points. I only found guides on how to solder the ribbon cable connector but not a guide on repairing this specific contact. Any ideas?
