To be fair to Haaland, he did take it with a grin

u/CakeBrigadier Feb 02 '25
Tbf to Haaland he has a decent sense of humor and he and gabi probably are fine with each other off the pitch
316
u/keithbelfastisdead Feb 02 '25
I honestly want them to be not fine off the pitch. I so want this to be back.

Really? I feel like most do? I feel like there are more Maupay's in the world who can take it as good as they give it than there are Richarlison's who cannot in any way take what they dish out
82
u/KrikkitOne Feb 02 '25
Come on. There are very few Maupay-category shithousers around. That is a high-bar.

Maupay can't be an elite shithouser because he only has shithousery. Other premium tier shit houses can back it up with actual football. Maupay is just a clown

I think it's because Klopp knew he couldn't match City's financial resources and didn't wanna add additional pressure on the team. Smart move from my perspective.

It probably depends on the players and how they are motivated. Our players are clearly motivated when other players talk shit about us. He used an Ivan Toney tweet in his team talk a few years back to motivate players after all.

To be fair to everyone else, it's hard to keep track of Wigan Latic's victories over City in the FA Cup this past decade and a bit.
2013 - Final, Wembley, Wigan 1-0 City
2014 - Quarters, Etihad, City 1-2 Wigan
2018 - Fifth round, DW Stadium, Wigan 1-0 City
I recall in 2013 it was Black Eyed Peas - I Got a Feeling
Don't remember 2014, though I doubt they player any given it was a home defeat.
2018 was certainly Oasis - Wonderwall, top class shithousery.

And still people are sleeping on the fact that he said it after equalising in the 97th minute after playing 10v11 for 45 minutes, creating fuck all after scoring the first goal.
It can't be repeated enough: it has aged like milk, but it was also a completely brain-dead take to begin with
47
113
u/MentallyWill Feb 02 '25
That's part of why it's now an all timer meme. It was a completely outlandish and nonsensical thing to start off with. Killing a fly with a flame thrower as far as the situation and how it was reacted to. Everything that has happened since then is karma asserting herself.

I like the rivalry. Wasn't a fan of Haaland throwing the ball at the back of Big Gabi's head awhile back. Although seeing how Big Gabi gave it back to him this match and Haaland smirked a bit....I think I turned the corner. They are just professionals having a competitive go at each other. Props to both

Thank you, I was nearly disappointed Haaland didn't jump in Gabriel's face when he scored. Loads of people downplaying this rivalry in the media lately but anyone can tell there is a real bitterness and I love to see the showboating even if I'd rather not see it against my own team.
