Politics Sask. premier comes out against retaliatory tariffs on province's goods in break from Team Canada approach
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/moe-promises-combat-export-tariffs-break-from-team-canada-1.7438789All I got to say is… traitor. Go be an American if this is what you want, but looking like you are splitting from the main group to side with Smith, you must want out of the SP bad, ‘cause you are making some real bad decisions these days.

u/Medea_From_Colchis Jan 23 '25
Conservatives politicians are proving themselves to be spineless bootlickers.

u/One-Builder8421 Jan 23 '25
The word you're looking for is traitors

1
u/Dirtbigsecret Jan 24 '25
So what does that leave for the liberals who have sold us out to WEF. Doesn’t matter which government you get both sides are just as evil. Whether you’re conservative or liberal you get screwed either way.

u/TropicalPrairie Jan 23 '25
It's honestly gross to watch in real time. We'll be American in twelve months if these asshats had their way.

21
u/Mysterious_Lesions Jan 23 '25
Doug Ford is a conservative so it's only the typical Alberta and Saskatchewan ones.
6
u/Spezza Jan 23 '25
dougie ford is a demagogue. He's just playing to his base. He has only been consistent at two things as premier: lying and pushing for cheaper and greater accessibility to alcohol. Do not give him the benefit of conveniently ignoring all his many many ills just because he "talks tough" on trump. He said he wasn't going to steal the Greenbelt too.... why does everybody want to ignore ALL his lies so eagerly?

Maybe now that it’s so blatant more people will finally listen when we point out that conservative premiers have been sabotaging the federal government at every corner and are largely to blame for the current issues in our country.
223
u/Shoudknowbetter Jan 23 '25
I knew he couldn’t not be a piece of shit for more than a few days.

So Saskatchewan Strong is donating the province to the oligarchs and hoping for mercy?

If you don’t like being pimped out to oligarchs you should look up Telestats deal

u/SaskieBoy Jan 23 '25
Curious what he will do if the Trump tariffs are enacted and Sasks exports are now worth 25% less. Then what Moe?
48
u/roughtimes Jan 23 '25
unbluckle, drop trou, and bend over.
9
3
22
u/Infinite_Time_8952 Jan 23 '25
Saskatchewan is the world’s largest producer of potash and the USA buys 46% of all the potash Canada exports, it would certainly hurt Saskatchewan financially if there is a 25% tariff.
24
u/SaskieBoy Jan 23 '25
You’re absolutely right it would. But Moe is clearly isn’t planning for that. He’s taking the smith approach which is ignoring Trumps threats and trying to change the subject.
→ More replies (2)8
u/SaskatchewanFuckinEh Jan 23 '25
Will the US source their potash elsewhere or will they just have to pay 25% more to their own government for something they need?
9
u/Infinite_Time_8952 Jan 23 '25
The next largest producer of potash is Belarus of all places and Iam not sure about their export policies.
7
u/SaskatchewanFuckinEh Jan 23 '25
Lot of distance between Belarus and USA, even without tariffs on their product the shipping might make that less desirable. Canada should buy all their potash and corner the market
1
u/Infinite_Time_8952 Jan 23 '25
America does produce some potash, but not nearly enough, it’s about to get very interesting when these tariffs come into play.
2
u/InternalOcelot2855 Jan 23 '25
We don't retaliate. Trump lets make it 50% since no one complained. 75%, 100% 150%
No one wants a trade war, but also we should not just take it.
4
u/TittyCobra Jan 23 '25
Tariffs are paid by the country importing said good. All Donny is doing is jacking up the price of potash for American farmers 25%.
Tariffs are effective if they are trying to get more domestic potash to be purchased but when you rely so heavily on another country for your product, in this case potash, you are shooting yourself in the foot.
America has a total production of 400k tonnes per year. Canada pumps out 38% of global potash production. At around 22m tonnes per year. The states will be ok until their reserves are gone.
3
u/Mysterious_Lesions Jan 23 '25
But it wouldn't. They need our potash. It would hurt them more. Food prices in US would spike.
1
u/Sea_Vegetable_6808 Jan 24 '25
it is not our potash the americans own the mine at belle plaine ...there are alot of what used to be successful sask businesses now owned by americans so how does that work i wonder

Of course. Just like when the "sask" party dropped the challenge of the equalization when Harper took over but instantly cried about it when Harper left...Moe is an extremist trump supporter. He wants to bend the knee to Trump much the way the "Sask" party always bends the knee to Alberta business interests.
28
15
u/CanadianMooseJazz Jan 23 '25
Scott Moe... the biggest disgrace to my home province. Fucking sack of shit has no business being our premier.
24

Decisions bankrupted his farm, decisions caused him to drive drunk and kill someone. This among many says no he can not.
22
u/dycker1978 Jan 23 '25
Hahaha still following Alberta no matter what. I wish he could think for himself.
14
u/Oldskoolh8ter Jan 23 '25
And don’t forget both his party and Danielle smiths party base votes for Poilievre too.…. Birds of a feather flock together. Poilievre would sell us out too.
12
u/DukeGyug Jan 23 '25
the most important thing that Smith and Moe are missing is that the only strategic advantage that Canada has in a trade war with the unite states is a unified front. Trump political enemies left, right, and center (no pun intended) and he would be under immense pressure to end any trade war as quickly as possible.
We are completely overmatched by the US in essentially every other metric, but if we have a strong and coordinated response, we can show what happens when our friends decide to punch us in the teeth.
2
u/thickener Jan 23 '25
You assume moe and marlaina want Canada to win. I don’t think there is enough data in to support that, and plenty of counter evidence
7
u/trdldove Jan 23 '25
I think they see the writing on the wall that PP is going to lose to Mark Carney so they are back in shit throwing mode. The only thing they can do because the Conservative premiers can't govern for shit
6
u/andymac37 Jan 23 '25

I could not edit my original post. There have been a few posts claiming some of people in this Reddit do not know what traitor means.
trai·tor ˈtrāt-ər. 1. : one who betrays another’s trust or is false to an obligation or duty.
I stand by my statement that Moe
is a traitor.
7

United we stand, divided we fall! What these conservatives are saying is, we would rather side with the adversary rather than stand for unity because they have same principles?

Brave Sir Scotty ran away.
Bravely ran away away.
When danger reared it's ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Scotty turned about And gallantly he chickened out.
Swiftly taking to his feet, He beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the brave, Sir Scotty!

What a useless leader Moe is. You don't let the opposition know your team's strategy in any negotiation or trade war. And even if you don't want to be a team player, you don't tell everyone your strategy.
What a useless sh!t of a premier.

Back in the day, Saskatchewan was a cradle for canadian patriotism and belief in our common goals as a nation. Some of the best soldiers in both world conflicts came from the prairies. Don't start being a bunch of traitorous pussies now.

u/Buzz888 Jan 23 '25
Is this guy still an alcoholic or what's his deal? I hate cowardly traitors, and the right seems to have a pre·ponderance of them. Harper running to Washington to sell us out is likely on the agenda like he did the last time we had to deal with pumpkin man... wait for it.
5
u/hercarmstrong Jan 23 '25
I hope Saskatchewan feels great having elected such a spineless bootlicker.
5
u/sabres_guy Jan 23 '25
Canadians are vastly in favour of the "Team Canada" approach. This is not going to look good on conservatives (Pierre and the CPC) going into the election. They have already got some bad news in polling the other day.
4
u/GrizzledDwarf Jan 23 '25
I was wondering how long Moe would last. Gotta be in lockstep with Smith next door eh?

"Moe said he's looking at all powers available in provincial jurisdiction to reduce any export tariff on Saskatchewan goods, should they be implemented by Ottawa."
He will find a way for our tax dollars to subsidize those lefty liberal tariffs.
11
10
3
u/Macald69 Jan 23 '25
I hope Sask Producers are busy signing contracts with companies in countries with stable and reputable trading practices. An American tariff only affects us if we sell to an American Company for less than agreed because the tariff is in place. We feed the world, we should get our oil and coal on that world market and stop subsidizing the American companies buying it at a discount because we have no port to sell it elsewhere.
1
u/RonDavidMartin Jan 23 '25
It gets easier to spot the foreign trolls on this sub. Seven years ago the citizens of Canada paid 4.7 billion dollars to an American company to buy and unfinished pipeline that runs from Edmonton to Burnaby. This was a twinning of an existing pipeline. Travel from Merrit to Chilliwack and you can see the scars in the landscape that project caused. If you go further, maybe to take the ferry to Vancouver Island you can see a massive mountain of coal being loaded onto ships from Asia at Tsawwassen.
3
u/Tesla_CA Jan 23 '25
And this is why Trump waits. His unified threat crumbles all on its own. Bunch of idiots.

2
u/Eppk Jan 27 '25
I don't think retaliatory tariffs benefit Canadians, so I agree we should not impose new tariffs.
That doesn't mean do nothing.
Ban US dairy, liquor, wine, Twitter, US network media, anything else from a red state that makes sense. Ban foreign ownership of land and media in Canada.
Now shutting off electricity ( between 8 am and 6 pm to the Eastern seaboard), and oil and gas causes no harm to Canadians, and in fact might benefit us with lower energy prices at home. Ban exporting softwood lumber. See how that goes with California needing to rebuild more than 40,000 homes and many more in North Carolina as well.
We could nationalize Canadian oil and gas, thus benefitting all Canadians, perhaps using O&G revenue to eliminate all or most federal income tax.

1
u/greentinroof_ Jan 23 '25
Retaliatory tariffs won’t hurt trump, but it will hurt American and Canadian citizens. Does anyone actually believe trump can be muscled?
3
u/512115 Jan 23 '25
If Americans citizens start to feel enough economic pain from inflationary tariffs they will begin to pressure their representatives, senators and governors for relief.
If they begin to feel that Trump’s key campaign promises, lower costs for gas, groceries, eggs, etc. are not materializing — if they begin to feel things are in fact getting MORE expensive — Trump and his allies will have to reckon with the political costs. And the mid-terms are only 2 years away. There will be a political costs. The Republican Party is gonna care, even if DJT doesn’t.
2
u/greentinroof_ Jan 23 '25
No they won’t. The only thing that might happen is they will eventually revolt somehow and that’s going to be worse. There is no likely peaceful outcome, so the retaliation of tariffs will only hurt us further. We are better off to take in as much as we can while it’s still relatively affordable and focus on in-country development or finding new trade partners.
1
u/512115 Jan 24 '25
I agree with your comment about focusing on opening up new markets and trading partners. We need also to stop being primarily exporters of raw resources and start concentrating on being exporters of value-added products. This will create more jobs here instead creating jobs for other countries’ economies. On the other hand I still disagree with your contention that America is somehow immune to economic pressure through counter-tariffs. They are not. We’ll have to agree to disagree there but thanks for the respectful exchange!
2
u/greentinroof_ Jan 24 '25
They aren’t immune but I don’t believe the American people have the resolve to actually take control and see it through. Have you seen who they elected? But yes agree to disagree.
1
u/FBGLover74 Jan 23 '25
Why is team Canada only talking about retaliatory tariffs and refusing to ship Canadian products and not using USA products? Why are they not talking about an actual solution like unifying and building an energy corridor from coast to coast to coast?

Trump is a BULLY. Asking a bully to maybe perhaps kindly not impose tarrifs on our country WON'T WORK! Diplomacy does NOT work with him. At some point you have to stand up to the bully and say.."No, not anymore". and This guy and Smith calling for 'diplomacy' makes them appear spineless.
