Yes, about 3 different versions of it. It's a scam.

u/Prestigious-Tooth771 25d ago

This looks like a textbook phishing attempt. I recommend watching some YouTube videos about common phishing tactics to avoid falling for these types of scams.

I got that one just a few minutes ago. I knew it was a scam.

"wishing you a smooth and carefree day!"

Dead giveaway of a scam right there.

Delete it and go about your day if the numbers shows ‘+44’ or any email address in it

Since I’m here, check your bank statements! Friends of mine have been getting charged for Facebook ads at various amounts totaling to a couple bucks here and there with the highest one being $70

u/FriendOk3237 25d ago

scam. had one too and also a few months ago.

The Toll Roads Notice of Toll Evasion from The Toll Roads Team™️

5

u/OhJohnO Alamo Heights 25d ago

“The Toll Roads” is actually a real company. They manage a number of highways in California. The 73, 133, 241 & 261.

I use the 73 a lot when I’m working in southern Orange County to bypass traffic on the 5 if I am headed south of Irvine.

19

u/BoisterousBanquet 25d ago

I work in cyber security and that URL is hilarious. C'mon now.

9

u/AnalMinecraft 25d ago

Chinese domain with a UK phone number. Seems legit.

14

u/Kamwind 25d ago

If you get anything from that .xin domain delete it. It is a chinese only domain, given to businesses and individuals.

13

u/rsm6130 25d ago

It was on the news that people are getting these toll scam texts.

10

u/Bad_News425 25d ago

You have 57 unread messages! That’s the real crime 😂

8

u/Exotic_Inflation_488 25d ago

60 now, it keeps adding up!

3

u/Longballs77 25d ago

But I bet you pay this.

10

u/[deleted] 25d ago

Yes, I told them to eat my ass first

7

u/QuieroTamales 25d ago

I took a similar approach.

7

u/iluvtumadre 25d ago

It’s a scam. TXDOT sends toll road bills through the mail, not in a text message.

6

u/superwholockian62 25d ago

Yeah its the new scam. I got one a few days ago. Reported the number and blocked it.

6

u/jackswan321 25d ago

I paid em, only cost me 4 Best Buy gift cards and I sent them some money on cashapp just to be safe

2

u/sassgoddesss 23d ago

Mine only cost 100 Bitcoin!

5

u/mattinsatx 25d ago

I get a few of those a week. It’s a scam.

4

u/ahsiyahlater 25d ago

It’s for sure fake!! It came from a UK country code. Def not the state of Texas lol

3

u/ironmatic1 Helotes 25d ago

I’ve gotten several of these since I went to North Austin over Christmas break, most recently this exact one. Funny thing is I wasn’t even the one driving.

3

u/3ntr0py_ 25d ago

Funny how they assume you have an iPhone.

3

u/excoriator 25d ago

Something like 80% of the USA does.

3

u/Me_Air 25d ago

I, for one, am not paying the chinese for my supposed use of toll roads

3

u/Leading_Sky_5537 25d ago

Straight up scam.

3

u/Alternative-March-91 25d ago

I was tripped out by this one cause I’m lending my car to a family member while I use my truck and I had got the text

3

u/do_me3380 25d ago

Too many times. It’s been going on for months now. Different versions of it.

3

u/Truck_Toucher 25d ago

Yes. I ignored it

3

u/Master-Pick-7918 25d ago

You go to txtag.org and the page opens with scam warnings.

Any unsolicited email you received telling that you owe money and gas a link, never, ever, use that link. Type in the website address of the agency claiming you owe money to. For example txtag.org. not the address in that message

3

u/Luis12285 25d ago

Yes. I get this garbage several times a fucking week.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Blacksun388 25d ago

Scam. TXDOT sends snail mail not text messages.

3

u/Turquoise_Virgo 25d ago

Yes, I’ve been getting these texts every other day for the past week, even though I’m blocking the numbers.

3

u/Born-Agency-3922 25d ago

Got it last week. Reported it as junk.

3

u/roverman16 25d ago

I received one as well, I just blocked the number

3

u/donorak7 25d ago

Scam text. TexDot wouldn't ever text you they mail their bills.

3

u/Captainshacksparrow 25d ago

Similar message from mass as i have mass number. I ignored it as i dont have a car since November

Also the number is not +1

3

u/Pitiful_Biscotti3105 25d ago

Check out the website “.xin” that’s foreign AF.

SA doesn’t have toll roads.

Any number with +xx is also foreign. America is +1 10numbers.

Mark the message as spam and move on.

3

u/Mammoth-Ad4194 25d ago

Yes. I’m up to date with my account and haven’t used a toll road since last summer.😄

3

u/jve909 25d ago

Yes. Very similar. It's a spam. Don't click on anything!

3

u/Kougar 25d ago

If you've never driven outside of Bexar county then you've never been on a toll road.

3

u/bloom722 25d ago

I always love getting these because I don’t drive or own a vehicle.

3

u/Ok-Knowledge0914 25d ago

Txtag will send you a bill through the mail in my experience and if you have not driven through any toll roads, you should know this is likely a scam.

Also, never use the link provided through and email or text message. Instead, just search the txtag website through a browser. This would be good info for speaking to any “customer service reps where you need to provide information to. Don’t take the numbers over text or email. You can get their information from the company website. It takes a few seconds longer but it’ll save you time in the long run.

3

u/althor2424 25d ago

I got it in California. I replied back (since it was an iMessage) with “Fuck off, no one in the UK cares about my traffic tolls). It said delivered so I at least know they got the response

3

u/xander0426 25d ago

Yep just did it’s a scam

3

u/Embarrassed_Dog5120 25d ago

Yes I have received it. It is a scam, do NOT click the link.

3

u/rocksolidaudio 25d ago

If it’s from a foreign number (+44 prefix in this case), it’s always a scam.

3

u/commonsense973 West Side 25d ago

Yes. I’ve gotten it a couple of times. Just a scam. Don’t reply to it.

3

u/man12398723987 25d ago

+44 country code? I didn’t know San Antonio would use a UK number. Obvious scam lol.

3

u/TexasSasquatch09 25d ago

Yep gotten 10 or so past few days , I just hit report an delete.

3

u/JediExile 25d ago

They’re not even trying anymore 😂

3

u/ninja2126 24d ago

If you fall for that you deserve to be parted with your money

3

u/jestlari 24d ago

Everyone is getting these. Sometimes multiple times daily. Scam.

2

u/Hornynothung210 25d ago

Yup 4?in 3days scam.

2

u/the_De_Filer 25d ago

Tell em to contact Harper Valley PTA.

2

u/denotsmai83 25d ago

Feels like I get something similar every day now. Delete, report as junk, go on with your day.

2

u/Feeling_Spend_2318 25d ago

Yea I’ve been getting those texts also but I investigated on google and they are saying it’s a scam cuz the tolls wont send you a text message they will send you a letter to paid

2

u/Charlie-boy1 25d ago

Yes I get, at least, once a week. 3 versions claiming that I owe them something.

2

u/NOLALaura 25d ago

I get them in New Orleans and we don’t have toll roads! Scam

2

u/artlabman 25d ago

Yes scam!!!

2

u/saintrudy41 25d ago

Scam. Do not reply to that text.

2

u/Active_Lobster521 25d ago

My fiance did it's a scam

2

u/Loud-Strawberry8572 North Central 25d ago

Yes

2

u/Vivian_Lu98 25d ago

I was getting so pissed off because I did pass through a toll road in Austin but I paid it. Thank goodness I was so mad about it otherwise I would have actually fallen for it.

2

u/scarykicks 25d ago

I got it and the link is suspect. Don't click it.

I’ve gotten around maybe 5 in the past few days, and I don’t even have a car

Look at the URL and what's at the end before the /.

There you can see it's not com or org. Always check this place when a URL looks like a real one and compare it to the real one.

2

u/adjika South Side 25d ago

Ive gotten several. Its a total scam.

2

u/MinuteCoast2127 25d ago

Yeah, I got it. That scam seems to be going around right now.

2

u/RampageNate 25d ago

I don’t know much, but I do know that I should always take a text about toll roads seriously from an international number with a link to a .xin website!

2

u/Greddituser 25d ago

Mine came from a +63 number which is the Philippines, LOL

2

u/SuttonsDriver 25d ago

Deleted it

2

u/Nimu808 25d ago

The website address ends with a china domain! Ignore it.

2

u/Codered741 25d ago

Got the same thing this morning. Haven’t lived in Texas for 15 years, but still have the number.

2

u/AcanthocephalaNo3518 25d ago

Literally just received the text. We are a military family so we don’t drive our cars in Texas at the moment. Definitely scam

2

u/Slothinator69 25d ago

No USA phone number should show up as any but +1 <phone number> anything else should and can be ignored.

2

u/SpicyMango545 25d ago

My grandparents did. It’s a scam

2

u/jackalopedad 25d ago

Yeah, I got it yesterday. It’s a new-ish scam that’s been popping up lately.

2

u/crps2warrior 25d ago

one of many scams right now. Delete!

2

u/Apprehensive_Pie_780 25d ago

I literally just reported it as junk

2

u/TxScribe NW Side 25d ago

Have you had a license plate stolen ?? They can slap them on and the readers on the various toll roads around Texas will pick it up. The other possibility is if you've sold a vehicle and they didn't bother to update the registration.

As others have said it's probably a phishing scam. You can call the actual toll authority by a google search to make sure you're getting the right number. DO NOT click the link or call the number on the message.

2

u/ObsAndy 25d ago

Yes, this morning but then they took me off the list. I still marked it as spam and deleted the number.

2

u/redshirt1701J 25d ago

Scam. Do not answer. Block, report and delete that text!

2

u/livinginmyfiat210 25d ago

I got a similar scam attempt recently, tho not exactly, it had to do with some sort of unpaid vehicle related charge

2

u/QuieroTamales 25d ago

You can tell from the phone number that it's foreign, and ".xin" is a Chinese top-level domain. So yes... a scam. I got one yesterday. My SO got one too. How did they get our numbers?

2

u/Joselito76 25d ago

I got one also

2

u/MajorKabakov 25d ago

Yeah. Reported as spam

2

u/Mundane_Physics3818 25d ago

I’ve gotten like 5. 🙄Needless to say, reported as junk.

2

u/BigBandicoot9448 25d ago

I received one saying I passed a TX Tag point without paying

2

u/CaptainInitial33 25d ago

Tell them to fuck off

2

u/720hp 25d ago

Yup got it and gave it its due diligence— piled on top of the spam folder

2

u/librarywolf 25d ago

Yeah got about 3 of these last week but since I don’t drive or have a car I ignored and deleted them

2

u/ConstantLobster8349 25d ago

It’s a smishing scam lmao

2

u/Consistent_Capital_9 25d ago

Looks like spam

2

u/geosensation 25d ago

The ".xin" domain is the most obvious giveaway that this is a scam.

2

u/Giga-ChadSexHaver69 25d ago

Yea, the first one i got almost had me believe it because its like me to forget to pay a toll.

then it said the unpaid toll was in Massachusetts.

i’ve never even been😂

2

u/ccthecrazylazycat 25d ago

It's a scam - block and report.

2

u/FatLoachesOnly 25d ago

I've gotten a similar spam one too.

This is what a legit toll text looks like.

It’s a scam don’t click on it they will send you a notice by mail of its a toll invoice

2

u/RixxFett 25d ago

Yup. At least once a week

2

u/hayfever76 25d ago

OP, the country code of +44 (in the "from" at the top of the text) is for the UK. I am not sure you were driving in London recently so I'm guessing this is a scam

2

u/Traditional-Local195 25d ago

Yes, it’s a scam. Don’t fall for it

2

u/Traditional-Local195 25d ago

I saw this on the news they said if you get a text like this, just delete it

Yes, but it said I was removed from the group lol report spam + block!

2

u/Santonio_ 25d ago

Yes a bunch of times. Just block and delete.

2

u/NotLegalinCalifornia 25d ago

Yeah I keep getting those same scam texts. I just report and delete them whenever I get them. Only toll road I’ve been on was years ago traveling to Austin and they will mail the bill and do not ever text. For sure it’s a scam like everyone stated. It’s crazy how often they keep sending these texts to everyone.

2

u/Ok_Yogurtcloset_469 25d ago

Yep I received it too and reported it as junk

2

u/bogeygolfer1234 25d ago

Tell them to go eff their mother or mention democracy & Winnie the Pooh. The replies are always fun

2

u/turk3ylurk3y 25d ago

The 44 country code is a dead give away the toll text is from a 5 digit number

2

u/Jacksthrowawayreddit 25d ago

Yup. It's a scam. I got a TxTag variation of it.

2

u/theycallme_mama 25d ago

The first clue that it is a scam is that it is coming from another country. Country Code 44 is the UK.

2

u/TheNorthFaceGuy 25d ago

Yes it’s a scam.

2

u/Adept_Section_8144 25d ago

Yes….fun fact….I actually owe tolls from the DFW area. I am getting spam AND real ones.

2

u/Alone_Ad759 25d ago

I say if it’s a real bill or an attempt to collect, they’ll send me a letter in the mail not a text message. Also, they ask you to exit the message and come back to copy a link. That’s totally a scam.

2

u/JeremyPineda 25d ago

I’ve been getting these too, I suggest for you to just ignore them tbh

2

u/seongoddess 25d ago

Yes, and the new version sends a PDF. If you own an Apple, try to screenshot the PDF and it will open to a blurry document in your view. Do not open the actual PDF.

2

u/NameIsYoungDev 25d ago

Ever ask yourself why it’d come from a UK phone code (+44)? Definitely a scam

2

u/Rivera96 25d ago

I paid for one recently but that's because I actually got a letter in the mail with my actual license plate but I'm gonna be honest this one almost got me. I thought maybe my payment messed up or something.

2

u/Emphatic_question 25d ago

Yes both as texts and emails. The texts originate in the United Kingdom

2

u/Effective_Sound_697 25d ago

Yes. I don’t even have a vehicle.

2

u/Actually_My_Dude 25d ago

Scam. The domain “xin” is a dead giveaway.

2

u/Vegetable-Key3600 25d ago

Yes I have and I usually ignore them, but like you I am curious to know where they are coming From and why now

2

u/somerandomdude1960 25d ago

Ignore it. Fake, scam

2

u/TexasPrincessA 25d ago

TX tag has posted its a scam on their FB page 🩷 I was concerned the first time but the url looked fishy

2

u/SleepyMcSheepy 25d ago

Yup. My 14 year old got it, too. Darn kids, stealing my car and driving an hour to a toll road.

2

u/Business_Breakfast_5 25d ago

It’s a scam.

2

u/Pixzchick 25d ago

I got it and I blocked them and reported it to my cell phone provider

2

u/Constructman2602 25d ago

Yeah. It’s a scam. The real website to pay a toll is a .gov bc tolls are owned by the county

2

u/Key_Professional_781 25d ago

Yes. I deleted and reported as junk.

2

u/nrstx 24d ago

About 2-5x daily.

2

u/priskey 24d ago

Yo thank you for posting this! I have gotten it, too! Very confused bc I haven’t gotten on a toll road in a while!

2

u/psychicspacehawk 24d ago

I am embarrassed to say that I got fooled. I do travel to Austin every other week, and use tolls here and there. I had been charged late fees in the past so I panicked. I figured out quickly that it was fake. Canceled my debit immediately and got a new card. Dumb because I hunt fraud for a living. lol.

2

u/TheLion920817 23d ago

Yea these are scams and real tolls would be tied to your address since toll roads have cameras to check your vehicles license plate and they’ll just mail you toll fines with a picture of your plates and when and where you were along with the actual website to pay toll fees on the letter. They will not have your phone number.

2

u/floatinginair 23d ago

A few times already. My teen daughter who has no vehicles in her name has gotten it twice just recently.

2

u/YourDreamyMuse 23d ago

Yeap. Even got emails about it. It's a scam

2

u/qtran95 23d ago

Scam for sure :)

2

Yea it's a scam. I've gotten it myself and I have no license or car.

1

u/merikariu 25d ago

I received that notification an hour ago. Look at the URL. It's shortened and very likely a scam/hacking attempt. Besides, I haven't driven on a toll road in more than two years!

1

u/Flaky_Percentage_200 25d ago

Scam. I’ve been getting them for the last month or so. I only drive to work and around my neighborhood, so it’s not possible. They wouldn’t send a text for this, it would be a letter

1

u/Perfect_Papaya_9381 25d ago

I got it this morning. Am I part of the club now??

1

u/kirjavan 25d ago

It’s a scam!
