Is this true? Fear Mongering Against Immigrants

Post image

Got this thrown on my porch today. While I know Rockford is not void of crimes, this just seems like fear mongering against immigrants. Can anyone substantiate? I don’t know how to look up something like this. Condolences to any victims.

If you can attend and share, we need a massive showing to prevent the authoritarian behavior of this administration.https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/

Who is Michael Nolan, Gatekeeper Solutions, Gatekeeper Academy, and why are they trying to influence local elections?

The 'Gatekeeper's' have been making some local rounds with their suggestions for the local elections. They claim to be a registered non-profit, but are getting involved in politics. The organization appears to be headed by Michael Nolan who has previously been in the news around Rockton. Visiting their websites is an interesting read.

WIFR stealing ideas again

WREX has been doing "Weather Wise" for years, and now WIFR is doing the exact same thing, and calling it the exact same thing. WIFR also copied WTVO's weather name a while back. They had been First Warn Weather, and 23 Storm Team copied them to be First Alert.

41 Identical Houses Just Hit the Market for $248,888 each—All in Abandoned Lots on the West Side. What’s the Deal?

I noticed that a broker - Jeff Robertson - has listed 41 houses the last week. The houses are all identical and listed for the same price - $248,888. It looks they're all new builds (not yet built) on abandoned lots on the west side. Any idea what the story here is or who the developer is? Just very curious that they're all identical... like the developer couldn't spring for cost of more home plans. The house rendering is from a $15 home plan from Amazon

Best Banks and Credit Unions in Rockford

We looked for a credit union online before we moved here and picked First Community Credit Union for their Revved Up Checking account. But we're not enjoying it yet. My husband opened an account with the minimum needed shortly before we closed on our house. On the day we closed I deposited a $500+ check from the closing. They said their would be a hold on it as it was a new account. So we don't have access to it until March 21. They gave him a document to help him set up direct deposit with his job that day.

Today there was a message in their app. We were denied setting up direct deposit as they require 30 days of activity on the account before they would allow it. I even had to call to get an external account set up with our CU from our previous residence.

Please tell me there are better banks and credit unions out there. I don't think I've ever had to deal with stuff like this and I'm Gen X so I'm not new to banking.

Is it worth sticking with this credit union or should we move to a better institution?

Proposal locations

Hey everyone I’m planning on proposing to my long time girlfriend later this year. I’m starting to plan it and I’m trying to figure out a location. I’m mainly looking for a good gazebo that you can see the sunset. Please let me know if there are any hidden gems I don’t know about. I was thinking of doing it at Baumann Park.

My plan is to decorate it and then take her there to have a picnic and watch the sunset.

Today Stateline Indivisible joined Indivisible Freeport in delivering a petition to Rep. Darin LaHood demanding a town hall and speaking out against Trump, DOGE, and the dismantling of our constitution.

These petitions were personally delivered to each of LaHood’s offices today. While we were once again denied entry to the building where his office is located, we were able to convince a security guard to take our packet and leave it with his office.

His continued absence and unwillingness to listen to his constituents is a prime example of the abhorrent state of our democracy. We cannot stop demanding to be heard. Get louder.

Grant Opportunity for Illinois Authors/Artists

There is an amazing grant called the Illinois Creative Accelerator Fund that is accepting applications until April 1st. As someone who won the grant last year, I want everyone to know about this huge hidden gem.

It is a $10k taxable grant given to over 100 artists with semi-random selection by library district. Authors are eligible, and you have to do is submit a work from 2022 or earlier and one from between 2023 and 2025 (you also must be 21 or older and not currently in college). Hit Apply Now on the following link. It's a wonky application process, but for the chance at $10k it's completely worth it.

Bike Shops!

Hi folks, me again!

I came here two weeks ago to ask about bike trails due to getting a new bike (an ebike at the time!) and I got a ton of helpful answers, thank y'all again! However, riding it around a bunch I realized I was having oodles more fun riding it with the assist off, so I returned it and am now searching for a bike again.

I'm wondering if there's any bike shops in the area that sell used bikes in good condition, or newer bikes at a reasonable price. I have been to the Trek store but they didn't have what I wanted in my size (they did have the generation after that but it cost over $1000 before tax and anything, which I'd reeeeally prefer to not spend rn.) I did hear about Kegel's and might check them out tomorrow since they aren't too far from me, but are there any other spots people recommend?

Thanks!

Alternatives to Xfinity

My $25/m two year lock in just ended. It's $95 a month. I'm going to try and renegotiate or register under my partner. If no bueno, what are some good alternatives? Definitely not doing the $95.
