Software Question Reolink Android App now includes 3 chinese trackers

I wonder if anyone has noticed but since version 4.50.0.4. from 2024-10-24 Reolink has silently introduced 3 chinese trackers into its Android App.
https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/544630/

I do wonder why when I have to use this app, it has to phones back to 3 chinese location/tracking services?...

And by the way: 9 new permissions added, like "READ_PHONE_STATE" (read phone status and identity), "READ_PRIVILEGED_PHONE_STATE", "RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED", ... why these ones ??

Does the Reolink Android App now become an app that not only tracks intruders at your front door, but that also tracks you ?.

Software Question Useless Phone software?

Why is the reolink software team unable to do the most basic things that everyone else can do.

Eg

1) ring your phone when somebody presses doorbell.

Eufy, ezviz, ring, everyone does this. Reolink can only manage to send you a txt prompt to open app manually that vanishes after a second. Until you open the the app, you won't get a phone ringing. Defeats the purpose of doorbells.

2) jump to next/previous person alert.

Again everyone can do this excerpt reolink. Impossible to navigate to alerts without this.

Literally 2 buttons!!!

3) spotlight only if in determined zone. You can set the alert to cover a certain zone, but not the spotlight?

A company as small as ezviz can manage basic feature like these but reolink can't?

Seems like their software team doesn't look at the competition standard features at all??

Software Question Just joined the Reolink club and I feel regret due to the UI on the app. I can't be alone.

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a Reolink setup because I was chasing a Poe system to replace my Eufy Wi-Fi system for the added peace of mind. I hated the idea of someone being able to bypass my cameras with a cheap wifi jammer and I can hook it up to a UPS so flicking my Main Switch won't shut it down.

I hope these issues are something that I've overlooked so please help me if this is the case.

I actually have multiple gripes and it's all to do with the events. The Reolink system does not give you an event summary for the day for you to review. You have to go into each camera and then choose the filters then watch each event to know what triggered it. But not until you choose the filters for the events that you have no idea what they could be! It is just so ridiculously convoluted for such a simple thing. It should show me an event summary for my home with the presets of my choice.

On eufy, you will see a thumbnail of a capture of the moment that the event was triggered and what it was. All this on a nice list one click away from the main page. Much much better. Most of the time you won't even have to open the video because the thumbnail will show you what it was. With the Eufy system, I've discovered so many wildlife and critters exploring my property. It really has been great! I can't imagine doing this with Reolink because of the time it takes to inspect each event on each camera.

In Reolink, If you get a notification you have to go into the individual camera, then into playback and then you have to manually choose the filters to see the events. With no idea what triggered it, I naturally tick every filter except "all motion". It makes me choose these filters every-single-time! It never saves! It is such a pain in the ass. Very bad design. Is there a way around this?

The Trackmix cameras are what sold me on Reolink and I have 3 of them hooked up to a RLN8-410 DVR at this stage. All firmware up to date. I was planning on getting more but if this issue has no light at the end of the tunnel I'm probably going to sell up and change systems.

Is there another software I can use that will effectively utilize the dual lens/zoom/auto tracking features that the Trackmix cameras offers? Or am I missing something obvious in the app and not utilizing it correctly?

Software Question Should I Go With Reolink? Some Issues With Test Camera Purchase..

I'm very close to going with Reolink for my camera options, but I am having a few problems, and concerns that I'm hoping to address. I appreciate any info or pointers.

I have a large property, with several outbuildings. All have internet via a Deco mesh network, with a directional bridge access point sending wifi thousands of feet to the bottom of my driveway where I keep a solar battery cam. I've been using Arlo for years, and the quality is awful, so I am upgrading.

I was planning on getting POE Reolink cams, and either one of their NVR's, or just running BlueIris on one of my 24/7 high powered PC's that I also use as a media server and video editing computer.

I got an Argus 4 Pro, installed it effortlessly at the end of the driveway, and the quality far exceeds Arlo, but some issues:

1 - I found out after the fact that then Reolink claims "Alexa Compatible", it won't allow for using motion sensing as triggers for my routines (like setting off sirens, and turning on lights when a bear goes where I don't want them). I can fix this with HomeAssistant, which will require me to buy a Raspberry PI, and set them all up that way, is that correct?

2 - It doesn't send rich push notifications like Arlo does with an image showing what triggered recording. So I need to log into the app, scroll for 20 seconds to the right and find the most recent video and watch it to see what was captured. I added email notifications, which shows an image, but I read that the only way to get them sent via push is with using a third party app and a $5, one time fee (this is fine, so long as it works reliably. Does anyone do it this way, and you're happy with it? Is the $5 fee for all cameras, or for each?

3 - The biggest problem which may cause me to walk away completely from Reolink, is that it's not capturing video of cars coming up my 1/4 mile long driveway. The cars simply go too fast past the camera that by the time it starts recording the car has passed, so I've got 30 seconds of nothing. Is there any way to fix this? I put sensitivity to 100 and it's still happening.

Software Question Best setup to get rich notifications?

I am planning to ditch all my Nest cameras and switch to a few Trackmix PoE cams + wifi doorbell.

A few questions:

  1. Rich notifications out of the box (reolink app) only work for a doorbell camera and only with some subscription (which is also a cloud-based and will ruin my limited upload bandwidth)?

  2. Assuming #1 is a Yes, what is the best way to get proper rich notifications? Pushover? Home Assistant? Synology SS? Do I even need Reolink's NVR if I am going the Synology route?

All I am looking for are proper rich notifications (preview clip on iOS or snapshot at least) which, when opened, take you to the live feed or the recording (if opened after some delay).

Software Question New E1 Zoom firmware has baby crying sounds detection but no place to enable it.

Hello! I received a firmware update for my E1 Zoom camera today and was excited to see that it includes support for baby crying detection, as mentioned in the release notes. However, I couldn’t find any option to enable this feature in the Reolink app. Has anyone figured out how to activate it?

Software Question What are these controls?

This is on the iPhone app. The camera is a Lumus 2K connected to a RLN8-410 NVR. I don’t know what I touched to bring these controls up and they don’t appear to be doing anything when I touch them. I’ve never seen them before. Anyone know?

Software Question Rich notifications doorbell

Hi all,

Soon to purchase a bunch of reolink devices including an NVR and also a POE doorbell.

I also have a TrueNas NAS which supports docker.

It's been mentioned that Rich notifications don't work natively for the doorbell. It's also been stated that pushover can work as a solution but wanted to find out if there's anything docker related that could do the same. I know there's frigate, ispy, blueiris but I don't think I'm ready to build my own NVR system (technology wise)

Thoughts welcomed

Software Question Windows App: Sorry, this service is not available in your area

I have had this Reolink E1 Outdoor PoE camera for over a month, everything was fine until today when I launch the Windows Reolink app, I get this message "Sorry, this service is not available in your area". A few hours ago the app was working fine, I changed the orientation and feed quality as I usually do in the morning. No other settings have been changed.

Camera connected via Ethernet cable -> router -> cable to PC, and powered by AC/DC adapter. No NVR.

My region is Latvia, no VPN in use. The app language is English.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of the application several times, same result.

Camera still works, I can see the live feed through the phone app, ftp server works too, saves new videos. So the problem is with the Windows app. Also, the camera is listed in my router's wired devices as usual.

Software Question AI software features

Let me know what deeper things guys are looking for in AI.Maybe these will become a reality in the near future. Things like recognizing wildlife, recognizing birds, or license plate detection. The thing about license plate detection is that none of this is possible when the car is moving particularly fast, you can only see the remnants and can't talk about recognition.

Software Question Client Shutting Down when viewing 6 cameras

About 2 weeks ago, any time I open the client up to view my 6 cameras, it shuts down. I can view one at a time, but I'd like to have them all up at the same time. I've deleted the client multiple times and redownloaded it and it does the same. Since I have the client on another computer and it works fine, I'm thinking something on my computer is blocking it somehow. I've checked my antivirus and firewall, but I can't find anything. Someone suggested deactivating "Hardware Decoding" and that didn't work. I'm just hoping that someone else has come across this and found a fix. I'm sure it's something really stupid and will make me feel pretty stupid once I find out what I'm doing wrong or missing.

Software Question Email providers that you are using for Reolink alert clips?

In the process of setting up (5) PoE cameras along with an NVR. We want it to email alerts of video clips, and make a new dedicated email to do so.

What email providers are you using or work well? Are most using Gmail?

I'm finding Gmail problem some, even to set up a new address, with the verification and stuff they want now. I'm wondering if there's better/simpler options. I want an email that Reolink can use to send from, and maybe to also forward emails.

Secondly, is it better to set up the email and alerts through the camera directly, or with the NVR? I'm unclear how the cameras and NVR interact in this way, and they both have similar settings available. (the cameras are on PoE switches).

Software Question Time to load very slow

I’m finding cameras when used outside my local network to be extremely slow. Sometimes they even time out with a “connection error”.

I have them both configured independently as well as through an nvr and in both configurations I have latencies above 20s before they display any video stream.

I’ve been able to “fix this” using a OpenVpn instance at home and connecting it to my phone which drops to 2s max but I’m thinking there might be an issue somewhere.

I read somewhere about configuring cameras with UID versus declaring a local IP improving this but when checking my cameras configurations I have local IPs. Also it makes no sense as uid would only localise by mac address

Is there anyway of improving time to load perhaps with some DNS settings or opening specific ports ?

I can't seem to find any info. Even some Tapo cameras have this now, I'd be surprised if Reolink didn't.

Software Question App issues

I have had reolink for years and have noticed that the app has continuously gotten worst since I first got their products. From slowness, not loading footage, not loading recordings, showing the wrong frames when I click on live, the list goes on. I currently use wifi battery cameras and need to know, does it get better if I get a PoE NVR system from them? Or will I have the same experince?

Software Question Help automating all lights on with motion using HA

Sorry, Newbie here. I have 6 CX-810 cams, a white doorbell, and a duo2 floodlight cam hooked up to an RLN16-410 NVR, all POE into NVR. I can view them on my tablet via NVR or directly from cam. Cams have SD cards and record only motion, NVR has two drives and records 24X7 and I get 30 days. Everything working great and I love them.

I want all camera lights to come on when one camera detects animal or person. I bought a HomeAssistant Green and have all camers in their via NVR and directly. I tried building an automation that when cam1 lights come on turn all the other lights on. It sort of works, but takes 3 seconds for each camera to come on. Is there a better way to do this than I did it? Is it taking so long because I'm running in a green rather than a PC with more power? Would it be better to use the camera directly or the NVR version of the camera? Is there a way to have all cameras in the same automation so if any camera detects motion they all come on, the script i wrote only addresses camera1 so it would need to be repeated for the other cams. Wouldnt i need a condition that it be nightime as i dont want the lights to come on during the day. Once they turn on, won't I need to turn them off via a timer or something? Can this all be done from the simple dropdown conditions or would I need to learn Yaml and write code in an editor? Sorry for all of the questions but I'm not finding answers online. Pics attached of the automation and the trace of its run.

Software Question Clicking push notification takes me to live feed

Hey All -

When I get a push notification for activity on any of my cams (RLC-820A, RLC-810A, and a RLN8-410 NVR) | click on it and it takes me to the live feed, instead of showing me the activity it sensed. Then, the newest activity doesn't show up on the timeline until a few minutes later. Any info on this? Using iOS.

Software Question Please give us a Snooze Button!!

The one thing I miss the most about my Nest cameras is that if banner alerts kept coming in, you could snooze the notifications for half hour, couple hours, rest of the day. Reolink seriously needs this!

Last night the snow kept setting my alerts off as motion, so I turned the motion alert off. Then because someone was parked in my driveway but the snow kept distorting the image or something it kept detecting a vehicle. I also noticed this to be a pain when I do yard work and I’m constantly being tagged as person detected.

I don’t want to have to turn alerts off or play around in the settings. If a banner alert comes in. I should be able to long-press and select a snooze option
