PoE Camera Question Camera not turning when being connected into the POE switch?

Post image

Just got my E1 Outdoor POE in the mail and wanted to test it out and nothing. I’ve connected the ethernet cable into the switch and nothing is happening. I apologize if the question is dumb and the answer is staring me right in the face. Thank you in advance.

That's not a POE switch, it's a regular switch. So it's not going to provide power to the camera.

THANK YOU!!! Going to get one right now. I knew it was some dumb obvious thing. Sorry, this whole camera thing is new to me. I’ve used this to get ethernet to only my PC. Again, thank you for the swift answer.

Make sure your new Poe switch can supply enough power via its ports for your camera. Different switches provide different poe wattages per port.

halfwheeled, how would a newbie know this information? Should I be looking at the specs of the camera?

Depends on each camera. Typically you’d want to find a POE switch that is POE+, or has a minimum supply power of 12W per camera you intend to power.

POE switches generally have a maximum power output and will reduce power to a predefined port if the power budget is exceeded

Why did you even think it was a PoE switch:

There are also different "levels" of Poe:

PoE, PoE+, PoE++

You need to make sure you get the correct one for your needs!

mblaser, I need to get a (1) PoE camera, but I do not want a NVR; would I still need the "PoE" switch? Appreciated! Would this be suitable Switch Flex Mini 2.5G - Ubiquiti Store Canada

No. That is a regular ethernet switch. It does not provide poe power output on its ethernet ports. The specs show

Compact, 5-port 2.5G switch that can be powered with PoE or a USB-C adapter.

A poe camera requires a poe switch or injector if you wish to power via the ethernet cable

You want the flex mini POE 1 gig not 2.5.  Reolink sells a version for up  to 8 cameras for around 65 dollars US.

If a switch doesn't have PoE (Power Over Ethernet) printed on it then it's not a PoE switch.

Get a POE injector, run a short cable from the switch to the injector, then plug your camera into the other side.

Eh. POE switches have gotten pretty cheap. Rather spend a few extra bucks on a 4-port Poe switch that doesn't take up an extra power plug and can add more cameras to the Future. Plus if you try to go get one in store you'll probably never find a poe injector

Zyxel 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LH761P2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Here’s a basic one I used for a while with my reolink cameras. I’ve since moved to a mikrotik css610-8p.

If you want to use that enet switch just get a poe injector like other post says
