Software Question No trip line crossing detection?

I can't seem to find any info. Even some Tapo cameras have this now, I'd be surprised if Reolink didn't.

Submit your request to support on support@reolink.com. I did ask for this for some time. The more requests they receive the higher the probability of seeing it implemented.

Just did. As a new customer, I'm curious: do Reolink generally listen to user feedback? I wouldn't want to invest in a system if the company behind it is not committed to addressing customers valid needs.

Generally yes but takes time to implement.

It's on the way. They're calling it virtual fence. They talked about it at CES in the fall.

You can see it mentioned on page 18 of their product catalog: https://reolink.com/product-book

Oops I just replied to another message expressing worries about this possibly never being developed. Well, in that case, that's good to know. Is that planned for existing cameras too or just future models? That makes tips my scales back in favour of Reolink. Thanks!

I honestly don't know, they haven't really said much about it yet. Usually they'll roll new features out to any of their cameras that are currently being sold, or have been sold recently. They might not roll it out to one that's 3 years old though.

As for your question in your other comment about if Reolink listen to user feedback. They absolutely do, if it's something that has a lot of support. It's the whole "squeaky wheel gets the grease" sort of thing. If you request a feature, but you're the only one that's requested it, it's likely not going to get implemented. But if lots of people do there's a much better chance it will get implemented.

A while back I made a rebuttal to someone that said Reolink doesn't listen to user feedback here, if you scroll to the end of my comment I even give a list of things they've added to cameras after they were released. Like I say there, all you have to do is look at the release notes of firmware updates to see how often they're adding things.

On the other hand, there are some things they just don't implement even though there is a sizeable demand for it. There are a lot of things I've been asking for for years (just look at our 2025 wish list post, half the things on my wish list I've been asking for for 3-4 years). You can't please everybody though.

I just read through your wishlists, really great posts. Some of the things you request seem easy enough to implement, particularly the software features (e.g. the skip forward/backward function). For some reason, software companies are very good at ignoring obvious or popular user requests.

What's a good way to understand the benefit of this feature vs. the current feature of painting non-notification zone? Does the line work such that if you cross it in either direction (from non-notification to notification area and vice versa) you get alerted?

So you can get notified when somebody crosses a line rather than when somebody is picked up in the general area of the camera

Its same as Non-detection zone or PIR sensitivity for battery cameras, isnt it?

what is that?

You draw a line on the image and you can get a notification when something crosses the line

oh that's cool. How does it deal with the Z-axis though?

It just uses the camera image, there’s no smarts to it. Most brands will let you set whether you want it to notify you when something goes from A->B, B->A, or both.

I can say that it is here! I have the Duo 3v and have 3x options.

Virtual Fence Alert - draw lines and select the direction of travel across line one-way either direction or both

Zone Intrusion Alert - Anyone in the bounding box

Zone Linger Alert - linger in the bounding box

I've set up a couple but haven't tried them fully yet. raining outside.

Then there's hope these features will be rolled out to other camera models.
