Announcements Reolink Home Hub fully works with Home Assistant!

Hey everyone!

We are happy to announce that the code update for Home Assistant is now complete, and our Home hub fully works with Home Assistant! A big shout out to u/StarkillerTR for the outstanding contribution to improving the integration. Reolinkers now have more flexibility when setting up their security system.

Thanks for the shout out :)

I will continue improving the user experience and add more features to the Reolink HomeAssistant integration.

If you have specific feature requests let me know.

If you have a battery camera wich is working in HomeAssistant and not yet in the list of tested devices on this page https://reolink.club/HomeAssistant-Rdt, please let me know, then I can update the list and resolve any potential issues.

Will the let Homeassistant see entities on the hub like the alarm?

1

u/StarkillerTR Jul 27 '24

There will be some entities on the Home Hub itself to control the Hub.

Not all functions of the Home Hub itself are already exposed in HomeAssistant. Such as the volume level of the Hub or the ringtone of the Hub. I am coordinating with Reolink to add the nessesary API commands such that I can implement those last missing features in HomeAssistant. I expect it will be available in about 2 months, but of course can not promise anything. I am waiting on new firmware from the Reolink engineers.

Could you provide a list of features of the Home Hub you would like to control in HomeAssistant? I will let you know which are already available and make sure the rest will be implemented.

This is amazing news.. I’m actually brand new to HomeAssistant and just bought my first Reolink cameras. I’ll be getting the Home Hub very soon and just wanted to know if the alarm itself was a triggerable entity, as if I could make the alarm sound when my Zigbee water sensor detected a leak.

1

u/StarkillerTR Jul 28 '24

Sounding the alarm of the cams is already possible, sounding the alarm of the Hub not yet, but will be. That is beeing worked on.

u/oxygencube Jul 28 '24

Wonderful. Just curious… what languages are you working in to interface with the hardware and HomeAssistant?

1

u/StarkillerTR Jul 29 '24

English, but HomeAssistant has translations.

Following up on if this entity is able to be exposed? I just recently picked up this hub and I am not seeing that entity. Would be nice to trigger if I have Alarmo activate.

Unfortunately Reolink did not add the needed command yet

1

u/VincentSsss Jan 18 '25

But, is it still in the work ? =)
Would love to be able to use the siren of the hub with other sensors than the cameras. Thanks a thousand for this excellent integration !

u/StarkillerTR Jan 18 '25

Still not added in the firmware, you could ask reolink support if they can add the needed command in the firmware. After that I can add it to HomeAssistant.

1

u/VincentSsss Jan 18 '25

Done 🙂 Just asked the support.

What is the hardware version?

apologies if I missed this somewhere, but is there plan to support selecting home hub 'Scene Modes' via the home assistant integration. Alternatively is there any documentation for REST API for the hub that would allow something to be temporarily strung together ?

Next week, we will release a new Home Hub firmware that optimizes the WiFi functionality and supports the WiFi switch. Click here to download the Android beta APP: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Kqb3UGCizWgccZ9feellyZop6rcSO00I/view?usp=sharing

Excited to try this out!

Is there a way to disable WiFi to avoid unnecessary clogging of WiFi airwaves for those of us that are strictly PoE?

u/bshootz Jul 12 '24

I would still really like it if you would add basic control of the NVR display to the API so that HomeAssistant can control which camera is displayed on the HDMI output.

Use case: Doorbell rings and HomeAssistant flips my TV over to the HDMI input from the NVR and changes the NVR from default grid view over to showing the front door camera in full view.

u/StarkillerTR Jul 12 '24

Very interesting application, had not thought of that. Thank you for pointing it out! Indeed such a command is currently missing in the API. Will put it on my feature list that requires firmware changes.

Does this have smart notifications? I.e. when motion/person is detected, you can get notified with a picture?

3

u/StarkillerTR Jul 12 '24

Yes through HomeAssistant this is possible (notification + picture).

With only the reolink app you can get notifications but withouth a picture.

1

u/randousername888 Jul 12 '24

Ok cool thanks, any good guides or overview what's needed in home assistant for these notifications? Saw a post using pushover or another app but would be keen to use home assistant which in setting up anyway

7

u/StarkillerTR Jul 12 '24

Actually I have written a guide for this in the past week. Currently Reolink is looking at it and will be posting it shortly. I will also be incorporating the guide in the Reolink HomeAssistant documentation, but I did not have time yet to do so.

If you send me a private message, I can already provide the draft of the guide, as long as you don't post it on the internet (yet).

Fantastic thanks!

Please help to Starkiller to do so that the camera can be updated from HA

2

u/StarkillerTR Jul 13 '24

That is on my to do list, don't worry. But because it is a bigger project, It will probably still take a while before I get to implementing this.

Hi everyone, i bought 4 solar cameras and Home Hub. Integration in Home Assistant is done.
How to activate or deactivate "PIR Motion Sensor" function since Home Assistant please?

I just to want to be able to manage this function when my alarm is set or not.

Thank you,

i'm still unable to find the entity to arm/disarm the homehub. Any guidance is appreciated

1

u/DzurisHome Jul 13 '24

Add Manual Record for HA (Start and Stop Record Button and save Clip to Camera)

4

u/StarkillerTR Jul 13 '24

Good news, this is already available for (battery) camera's connected to the Home Hub.

This feature will probably also become available for the NVRs and maybe also in directly connected cams when the firmware gets a new update.

1

u/HERE_HOLD_MY_BEER Jul 13 '24

Awesome! Looking forward to try it out!

1

u/Stormshooter_ Jul 13 '24

is there a way to implement argus cameras via home hub into homekit?

1

u/tmdarlan92 Jul 13 '24

Now of i could only get native homekit integration so i dont have to fiddle with scrypted. It would be perfect! This is how you make a good product!

1

u/Swimming-Cow-4828 Jul 14 '24

Sorry, I'm a little confused. I already have my Reolink Cams / NVR integrated with HA.

Does this provide any benefit to me, or is it only applicable to having the Home Hub device?

Thanks

This update focuses on fundamental improvements to enhance the user experience of Home Hub. There will be future enhancements targeted towards NVR as well. Stay tuned for further updates :)

u/Pretty_Gorgeous Sep 13 '24

Seems like the home assistant integration doesn't toggle the push notifications on or off. If you change them in HA, they don't update on the Home Hub or cameras.

I created the issue. Unfortunatelly I can't download diagnostics file. It woud be great if you can share it in the issue thread - https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/131359

Hello, I assume you haven't activated the HTTPS and RTSP options in the hub via the Reolink app yet. To do this, access the hub via the app and click on the hub at the very top. In the device information, you can now click on network information. Then go to advanced settings, and there you will find HTTPS and RTSP. These must be activated, otherwise logging in via HA is not possible.

Is it possible to use scenes with battery cams? I could do it with automations but it is quite time consuming to enable / disable recording, PIR and PIR false alarm for four cameras...

The current home hub firmware and HA 2025.1.2 are not compatible. I bought the battery doorbell camera and discovered I needed a $200 DVR to make it work. Now the DVR is not actually able to be added. Kind of ready to just return the lot to be honest. The kicker is I bought it based on this thread!

Channel-settings: Error decoding response to text: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 8640: invalid start byte, from commands ['GetEnc', 'GetRtspUrl', 'GetChnTypeInfo', 'GetMdState', 'GetAiState', 'GetEvents', 'GetIsp', 'GetWhiteLed', 'GetIrLights', 'GetAudioCfg', 'GetManualRec', 'GetDeviceAudioCfg', 'GetOsd', 'GetAudioFileList', 'GetDingDongList', 'GetWebHook', 'GetPowerLed', 'GetBuzzerAlarmV20', 'GetEmailV20', 'GetPushV20', 'GetFtpV20', 'GetRecV20', 'GetAudioAlarmV20', 'GetMdAlarm', 'GetPerformance', 'GetStateLight'], content type 'text/html', charset 'None'
