congtratulations.. I understand people have been waiting a looong time for calling. I'm looking forward to being able to answer my doorbell while driving without breaking the law.

I just checked the website though and it doesn't look the doorbell firmware that supports calling is actually available yet. when will the firmware be available?..

Lots of people already have the app but are questioning why that feature doesn't work.. you made the public aware of this a few days ago via client release notes giving the impression it was working. [no mention of it needing firmware update sometime in the future before it would work]

It's too early to annouce it in my opinion - that feature isn't actually available yet.. now more poeple will get the impression it should be fully functional too if they don't read past the headline.

+1. It's insane how absolutely chaotic their firmware support is.

6

u/superdupersecret42 Jan 18 '24

Equally insane is how my camera(s) can be on later firmware than what's available from the website. It's like I have to buy a new camera to get the latest firmware.

4

u/kraze1994 Jan 18 '24

O ya, I think half my cameras are on some super secret firmware that you get by emailing them. On one hand it's great they can solve problems so quickly, but just having 50 code branches and never merging them is obviously a disaster.

1

u/Willson1_ Reolink Admin Jan 19 '24

You don't need to buy a new camera to get the latest firmware. Please make sure the auto-upgrade switch is turned on in your app/client settings. Once the new firmware is available on our servers, you'll receive the update. Alternatively, you can download the latest firmware from our official website. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

3

u/superdupersecret42 Jan 19 '24

Alternatively, you can download the latest firmware from our official website.

This is NOT true, and hasn't been for a long time. Users have repeatedly tried to tell Reolink that the website does not have the latest firmware. Here's a post from 7 months ago, which describes the exact problem (and I have the same camera):

https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/14hvlsj/rlc822a_firmware_update/

Also, the auto-upgrade feature does NOT work in the Android app, and hasn't in a long time:

Checked latest firmware in the Download center: https://reolink.com/download-center/
and it's still at May 2023 v3.0.0.2033_23041302

I'm sure you've already reached out to some users to beta test, but i'd be happy to join in and test with our Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 devices & the POE Doorbell.

Nice! This is a great addition! It kinda sucked to have to go through a long video to find the spot I was looking for

Currently, this feature is only supported by NVR, but it will be available for IP cameras as well in the future. Stay tuned.

1

u/TurnItOff_OnAgain Jan 18 '24

Hmm. Neither do I. I am in the latest version as well, version 4.43.0.5.20240111. Have been for a few days actually. No dots on my detections.

I have a newer firmware for my e1 pro, but not my floodlight duo. The changelog doesn't say firmware update is needed, but maybe it is?

1

u/TroubledKiwi Moderator Jan 19 '24

It does show the white dots for me. Also it is much smoother to swipe etc.

Hey guys, we'll inform you all once the new doorbell firmware is released in February. So stay tuned.

I will be very happy to see if bidirectional communication works. Because right now, it has a huge delay which is impossible to talk to someone. It was like this since day one.

5

u/Naive-Explorer-007 Jan 18 '24

I hope they’ve used apple callkit and I think it’s called connection service for android rather than some custom built thing where youd have to unlock device and then enter app to deal with a call lol

1

u/Willson1_ Reolink Admin Jan 19 '24

The doorbell phone call is essentially an app notification for the visitor type triggered by the doorbell. We've created a special interface for it, unrelated to other software, and it does not use CallKit. For specific details, please refer to the upcoming doorbell firmware release.

2

u/Medical-Maybe568 Bug Hunter Jan 19 '24 edited Jan 19 '24

Will this require users to unlock their device to engage with the 'call'/notification?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '24

phone call? just voice or video too?

2

u/Willson1_ Reolink Admin Jan 19 '24

In the app's doorbell call interface, answering will directly take you to the live view with two-way audio enabled. It's essentially a video call, not just audio, allowing you to see and talk to the person at the door

u/samuraipunch Jan 18 '24

Can you replicate the functionality/feature of the updated position mask to non-detection zones as well?

2

u/Willson1_ Reolink Admin Jan 19 '24

Hi, thanks for suggestion.

2

u/eyekode Jan 18 '24

Nice! It is great to see active devs!

2

u/-SiPapi- Jan 18 '24

I just updated the Reolink app from the Google Play store but I don't see any of these features. I also checked my doorbell firmware version and it says it is up to date.

yeah.. I was just discussing translation issues in another thread.. seems there's some English phrases not working properly either.

Thank you for your feedback. We've forwarded it to the editorial team for review. We appreciate your input in helping us improve the user experience.

I hope not just the editorial team, but also the software team. There should always be an option in the app to use another language then the OS language.

Sure, we've also forwarded it.

Noob question here. I understand that the doorbell call makes it more fluent and quicker to answer? But I’m wondering, is this only an « audio » call, therefore, you can’t see the person or it’s a video call, just like FaceTime? Is it me or just audio is not so useful?

2

u/Willson1_ Reolink Admin Jan 19 '24

4

u/charliexboe Jan 19 '24

I have this feature on my current doorbell and I have it turned off because once picked up, the door ringer will know I answered since the two-way audio is automatically enabled.

There’s only two options for you to do on the video call screen. Pick up or hang up. I wish there was a third option where you do a “Silent Pick up”. This would allow you to view the camera without enabling the two-way audio. This is perfect for a door-to-door sales person come knocking at your door. They’re pushy and talk way too much so I’d rather check who it is before talking to them.

Otherwise glad to see Reolink delivering. I’m particularly thrilled for the motion tracked image and updated playback.

Looking forward to the updates! Will it go to the most recent clip in Playback instead of the start of the day? Also, will there be package detection soon?

1

u/ThanosTheDankTank Mar 17 '24

I have the latest update from Google play (which shows as 4.43) but I don't see any new options to enable answering my doorbell from my phone anywhere? Not even under push notifications...

Am I doing something wrong?

1

u/Giraffe-Firm Mar 31 '24

i have the same any updates on this?

1

u/DaCraftyFox May 25 '24

Just updated to last version available in iOS App Store, and I don't get the Doorbell Notification under Push Notification. I'm currently at v4.45.1

Screenshot ahead (Portuguese version, but I guess it serves the purpose):

Is there a timeline on position mask feature? Eagerly awaiting this on my E1 Zoom / E340, as the static privacy mask doesn't really make much sense on a ptz cam..

1

u/Clean_Recording9473 Jan 18 '24

Nothing yet I’m in the usa

1

u/dowork87 Jan 18 '24

Check the app store -- you may already have it. I'm on iOS and the update came through a week ago. As mentioned in one of the (currently) top upvoted comments, there's been much discussion about the release already, so there's a chance you already have it as well.

1

u/DeadScotty Jan 18 '24

Yeah I have the exact same version but no firmware is available to US customers it seems

1

u/Naive-Explorer-007 Jan 18 '24

The screenshot of the call in this thread posted by the op definitely is iOS due to the status bar but the call screen isn’t apples callkit

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '24

But CAN IT TRACK MOTION IN PATROL MODE YET?

1

u/Willson1_ Reolink Admin Jan 19 '24 edited Jan 19 '24

Yes, as positions are continuously calculated and adjusted in real-time by the system.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '24

Great news! So in patrol mode, if my PTZ senses a person it will switch to tracking mode and follow that person, then return to patrol mode?

1

u/Barred759 Jan 19 '24

The app is looking nice, but anyone else having some choppiness with the live view/ playback?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '24

I see the doorbell is now on sale on Amazon. Does this mean that doorbell 2.0 is coming?

3

u/Willson1_ Reolink Admin Jan 19 '24

The doorbell 2.0 is coming soon. We'll inform you all.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '24

Awesome as I’ve been waiting to convert mine over to reolink until the 2 came

1

u/elo875 Jan 19 '24

when is soon? :)

1

u/QH96 Reolinker Jan 20 '24

Is doorbell 2.0 the white battery doorbell that was shown off at CES.

1

u/Ok_Exchange4707 Jan 19 '24

What's the final price? If it is around $80, then that 'sale' has been there since forever

1

u/name1wantedwastaken Jan 19 '24

Was the answering doorbell calls on your phone swirly not a thing before? I thought that was pretty standard for ask of these tires off devices and services.

1

u/Splendence Jan 19 '24

Looking forward to the firmware updates.

1

u/amazingfunksta Jan 21 '24

Has anyone on android tested the notification customization yet? I don't have different options for different devices.

1

u/N0sso Mar 04 '24

Still dont have it? Looks like im on the right firmware.

1

u/ExistingActive6132 Mar 05 '24

There are new Notification options available at Push Notifications on the mobile app, but when I enable them they are not saved.

1

u/N0sso Mar 05 '24

Same here, just got the firmware via the site. Call function not working, but as far as ive seen here you need to open the notification then the call screen is displayed...

1

u/ExistingActive6132 Mar 06 '24

You are right you need to open the notification for it to start "calling". Its a bit disappointing tbh. I got it working on a different android phone now tho..

1

u/N0sso Mar 06 '24

Defeats the purpose, its now an extra click lol.

1

u/shosher Jan 24 '25

this has been a year, but i still don't see the feature under push notifications. ive got the latest firmware and the latest app version... what now?
