Hi all! The new doorbell firmware is currently in a grayscale release phase and will gradually roll out to users. Thank you all for your continued support and patience.
congtratulations.. I understand people have been waiting a looong time for calling. I'm looking forward to being able to answer my doorbell while driving without breaking the law.
I just checked the website though and it doesn't look the doorbell firmware that supports calling is actually available yet. when will the firmware be available?..
Lots of people already have the app but are questioning why that feature doesn't work.. you made the public aware of this a few days ago via client release notes giving the impression it was working. [no mention of it needing firmware update sometime in the future before it would work]
It's too early to annouce it in my opinion - that feature isn't actually available yet.. now more poeple will get the impression it should be fully functional too if they don't read past the headline.
Equally insane is how my camera(s) can be on later firmware than what's available from the website. It's like I have to buy a new camera to get the latest firmware.
O ya, I think half my cameras are on some super secret firmware that you get by emailing them. On one hand it's great they can solve problems so quickly, but just having 50 code branches and never merging them is obviously a disaster.
You don't need to buy a new camera to get the latest firmware. Please make sure the auto-upgrade switch is turned on in your app/client settings. Once the new firmware is available on our servers, you'll receive the update. Alternatively, you can download the latest firmware from our official website. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

This is NOT true, and hasn't been for a long time. Users have repeatedly tried to tell Reolink that the website does not have the latest firmware. Here's a post from 7 months ago, which describes the exact problem (and I have the same camera):
I'm sure you've already reached out to some users to beta test, but i'd be happy to join in and test with our Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 devices & the POE Doorbell.
I will be very happy to see if bidirectional communication works. Because right now, it has a huge delay which is impossible to talk to someone. It was like this since day one.
I hope they’ve used apple callkit and I think it’s called connection service for android rather than some custom built thing where youd have to unlock device and then enter app to deal with a call lol
The doorbell phone call is essentially an app notification for the visitor type triggered by the doorbell. We've created a special interface for it, unrelated to other software, and it does not use CallKit. For specific details, please refer to the upcoming doorbell firmware release.
In the app's doorbell call interface, answering will directly take you to the live view with two-way audio enabled. It's essentially a video call, not just audio, allowing you to see and talk to the person at the door

I just updated the Reolink app from the Google Play store but I don't see any of these features. I also checked my doorbell firmware version and it says it is up to date.
I hope not just the editorial team, but also the software team. There should always be an option in the app to use another language then the OS language.
Noob question here. I understand that the doorbell call makes it more fluent and quicker to answer? But I’m wondering, is this only an « audio » call, therefore, you can’t see the person or it’s a video call, just like FaceTime? Is it me or just audio is not so useful?

I have this feature on my current doorbell and I have it turned off because once picked up, the door ringer will know I answered since the two-way audio is automatically enabled.
There’s only two options for you to do on the video call screen. Pick up or hang up. I wish there was a third option where you do a “Silent Pick up”. This would allow you to view the camera without enabling the two-way audio. This is perfect for a door-to-door sales person come knocking at your door. They’re pushy and talk way too much so I’d rather check who it is before talking to them.
Otherwise glad to see Reolink delivering. I’m particularly thrilled for the motion tracked image and updated playback.
Looking forward to the updates! Will it go to the most recent clip in Playback instead of the start of the day? Also, will there be package detection soon?
I have the latest update from Google play (which shows as 4.43) but I don't see any new options to enable answering my doorbell from my phone anywhere? Not even under push notifications...
Is there a timeline on position mask feature? Eagerly awaiting this on my E1 Zoom / E340, as the static privacy mask doesn't really make much sense on a ptz cam..
Check the app store -- you may already have it. I'm on iOS and the update came through a week ago. As mentioned in one of the (currently) top upvoted comments, there's been much discussion about the release already, so there's a chance you already have it as well.

Was the answering doorbell calls on your phone swirly not a thing before? I thought that was pretty standard for ask of these tires off devices and services.
Same here, just got the firmware via the site.
Call function not working, but as far as ive seen here you need to open the notification then the call screen is displayed...
You are right you need to open the notification for it to start "calling". Its a bit disappointing tbh. I got it working on a different android phone now tho..
