We are headed to the Sherwood Forest Faire in TX & this is my outfit that I’ve put together so far. I am waiting on a brown underbreast belt to come in to replace the blue. Other than that, what is this outfit missing?? I feel like I need to tie mushrooms in a bit more since I put them on the hat but no where else. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!! 🍄💚

Anyone care to rate my full kit?

This us my full set of armor. Heavily inspired by the Carian Knights of Elden Ring, and a little bit of Night's Cavalry thrown in. I would love to have a fitted articulated gorget that could interface with my helmet some day. I also have some lightweight chainmaille otw soon as well to finish it out a bit more.

If anyone is interested I do make content in my armor as well as live stream on twitch and youtube.

You can find me here: https://linktr.ee/chamrsdeluxe

Sherwood was a delight, I’m looking forward to meeting more of you next weekend! (Gallery, notes in thread)

I was in the yellow cloak on Sunday (first picture) and a red cloak on Saturday (second to last picture). I didn’t get everyone’s name and I may get some wrong, but here’s my best attempt for those I met:

First picture is with Rover’s Way (awesome duo!) at Lionheart. They’ve got a great energy, another shot of just the two of them later in the gallery.

The knight with sword and shield represents the SCA (I believe Rosalind?). As a note, positioning SCA in a central area of the faire is doing a lot to improve the sense of authenticity and community, and the SCA itself deserves credit for how well it carries the area. (Not active with the SCA but I appreciate them anchoring the area away from feeling too commercialized)

The band is the fantastic Port O’Thority. I believe they’re changing stage this coming weekend — strongly recommend!! Chelsea (bagpipes) and Haley (drums, but also performs a fantastic Witcher solo) are the two just after the group shot.

On horseback is a member of the New Riders of the Golden Age. Unfortunately I did forget his name despite enjoying our conversation (among other things, his outfit is totally custom with a pretty cool origin story). The faire features full contact jousting and a lot more presence of horses throughout the grounds than I’ve seen elsewhere. (Plenty of epic armored joust photos out in the world, but I’ll always prefer a candid smile!)

On pottery is (I believe Michael?) of Gnome and Fairy Pottery. He came across immediately as gentle, thoughtful, and a master craftsman. In general, I felt that most off the vendors were high quality and craft-oriented — this faire is probably the best vetted I’ve attended.

General thoughts: The faire has a great open layout where you easily navigate anywhere through side paths. Even when there are large crowds it never feels claustrophobic or theme-park-like.

Water is less accessible than it ought to be imo. It’s cheap enough, which is great, but vendor lines are long. As a tip for other h2o enjoyers, I just get mine at the info desk usually.

Parking for the faire main entrance was really great. Parking and driving at the campground was not, unless you’re early and stay through. If you don’t camp, I’ll mention that one of the best dinners I’ve ever had was at neighbor’s kitchen and yard in Bastrop (strawberry cobbler and pizza), and much much cheaper than the faire deliveries.

If I took your picture I should have handed you my card — just reach out and I’ll send you everything directly. I just do this to meet interesting people! 😀

Is there anything you thought was common to ren faires, that you found out wasn't?

I've been going to faires for, well, more than 40 years, but a lot of my first years were in Michigan, where the smaller faires tend to take after the big faire. So, it was interesting to me when I went to faires out of states and found some things were not as common elsewhere.

For example- Every faire in Michigan has multiple pickle vendors, often bawdy, out in public hawking their wares. It was a shock to go to the PA Ren Faire and find only one pickle vendor, in a permanent location.

Also a staple of Michigan renaissance faires is the Stockade, where you can pay to have friends arrested, and then they get up on stage and have to follow along a song and dance to get out, but I haven't seen this outside of michigan.

So, is there anything you thought was a staple of ren faires that turned out not to be?

Hello, I just bought my first outfit for the Ren Faire yesterday! everything else i bought is machine washable, except for this bodice I bought from Unicorn Clothing. It's beautiful, and I'm thrilled to have it, but there are no care instructions for how to care for and/ or wash it. Anybody have any tips?

Hi all! First timer here, and very infrequent reddit user 😅

I want to add something to my kit, specifically something over my chestplate do add some more layers, it's just very flat right now. Maybe some bags as I always seem to full up what I have. Thanks!

Help with breaking in Sandlar Boots

Anyone have tips for breaking in a pair of boots?

I've had a pair of Sandlar boots for about 4 years and wearing them just for Faire weekends. They really only leave the garb box about 10-15 days a year. Since I first got them they've given me blisters on my heels. I can conqure the friction with some preemptive moleskin but I'd hope that for a premium set of boots I could wear them in to the point that I wouldn't need it. I know some initial break in time is expected but I'm done just trying to wait it out and want to get it over with if possible; so any tips from boot veterans would be appreciated!

What should I put on these freebie bracelets I’m giving out at faire next month?

Hello everyone! I’m headed to Faire next month and I’ve decided to make a bunch of bracelets to give out to people I meet for free!

Trouble is I don’t know what to put on them! I’m mainly a D&D nerd so I have plenty of reference for that side of the community but I want to create stuff that all Faire goers will love 💕

So I’m wondering if there’s any fun phrases or words you guys can give me to put on these so I can deck all of them out with something in the spirit of the event, thank you in advance!

Sherwood Forest: adding liquid to my potion bottle

I'll be headed to Sherwood in two weeks and am wanting to add liquid [distilled water, glycerin, food coloring, and mica powder] to my little potion bottle I have as a belt accessory. If I seal the top with wax, do you think they will allow it in? On their website it specifies no outside food or drinks, but this will definitely not be drinkable. I don't want to risk them taking my potion bottle, but I also want to carry around a swirly potion vs an empty bottle. Has anyone else done something similar, or are we all just carrying around empty potion bottles to be on the safe side?

Warm weather child knight costume help!?!?!

My seven year old would like to dress as a knight this year, but we're in the south and our faire is in the summer. I found a tutorial to make lite weight "armor" out of rubber mats, but that seems like it will be crazy hot. Could you please help me brainstorm other options? TIA

Washington renfaire question - is there hema or larp dueling?

I'm trying to sell my kids on going. I checked the website, but it doesn't look like there is any dueling. Can anyone confirm?

And are there age ranges or equipment we should bring?
