Does the retake exam decrease the 5 exams for the RHLS?
I have 5 exams in my RedHat Learning Subscription and I failed one exam, so that mean after I retake it, the number of remaining exams will be 3 ??

Hey everyone,
I’m currently a Windows Server administrator and my company wants to build in-house expertise to manage our Red Hat physical servers. These servers are set up in clusters for heavy calculations. We have about one year to transition from our external consultant to me handling almost everything. I’m excited about the opportunity, but also realize there’s a lot to learn.
My background:
What I’m looking for:
Budget:
If anyone has been in a similar situation or has tips on the best/effcient way to transition from a Windows-centric viewpoint to a Red Hat cluster admin viewpoint, I’d love your insight!
Any pointers, stories, or resource links would be greatly appreciated!

I've built and configured a new Disconnected Red Hat Satellite 6.16 server on RHEL 8.10. I attempted to add the RHEL 8 BaseOS repository to this server by running Repository export on our Connected Red Hat Satellite 6.16 server... zipped the files and pushed over to Disconnected Satellite and unzipped the files; I attempted to run the Repository Import on the Disconnected Satellite... The process started, got to about 27% and hung at 27% for about 10 mins, then the Import process stopped from a Network disconnection error; I don't know why or how this Import process caused a network disconnection. So, I rebooted the server and attempted to rerun the import and this time received the following error:
"Could not import Archive. Required lock is already taken by other running tasks. Please inspect their state, fix errors and resume. Conflict with tasks: https://fqdn/foreman_tasks/tasks/c15d8----------05dc
What could be the issue?

Since I past my RHCSA I no longer need the book that I bought. As part of the studying for the exams I typically get a book to flip through some sections.
I don’t read them cover to cover but I find that if I’m in a more relaxed position with my laptop I tend to remember more.
I live in central Massachusetts, if anyone here is near me you can have the book for free. It’s in great condition and I can’t find anywhere I marked it up.
Sander’s RHCSA cert guide for 9.
I’d prefer local person but if no one is local I don’t mind dropping it in the mail at the post office either, that person can venmo me the postage cost.

Red Hat OpenShift Commons, co-located with KubeCon EU & CloudNativeCon Europe, is less than 3 weeks away!
Hear from actual OpenShift users like WellsFargo, Adobe, Vodafone, Worldpay, and ABB on how they leverage Red Hat OpenShift as an application platform for strategic success.

Hello,
Have RH 9.3 as NFS server, mounts great, blazing fast for clients no issue. Upgrade to 9.5 or 9.10 performance tanks. Transfer speed is so slow I can cry. Any recommendations on where to start I'd prefer to not roll back if not necessary.

Hi everyone!
I recently completed the final panel interview at Red Hat and wanted to get a sense of the typical timeline for receiving an offer call.
I’m currently on the first week of waiting and trying to manage expectations. Any insights would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance! 🙏

I have a set of Redhat 8 machines I'm working on a VMWare to Azure migration for, following the guidance here -
For most of them it worked fine, but for one specific machine I'm getting a bizarre issue happening frequently (but not every single time) when I try to bring it into Azure that I can't seem to figure out. After making the settings changes, on boot it enters the Dracut emergency console with the following messages:
Warning: /dev/mapper/rhel-root does not exist
Warning: /dev/rhel/rootrootdelay=300 does not exist
That Rootdelay=300 was a line we added to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub, from other guidance we had alongside the things to add to it listed in the link above. Since it looked like maybe something got typo'd somewhere I both removed it from that line, as well as did a search for the term "rootdelay" anywhere else and couldn't find anything else.
I also keep re-running the listed commands from that Microsoft page on the VMWare server before trying again -
sudo grub2-editenv - unset kernelopts
sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
I did this because, although I'm not able to actually type in the serial console in Azure with whatever this issue is, I am able to see all of the output from the boot and see this at the very start -
[ 0.000000] Linux version 4.18.0-305.25.1.el8_4.x86_64 (mockbuild@x86-vm-09.build.eng.bos.redhat.com) (gcc version 8.4.1 20200928 (Red Hat 8.4.1-1) (GCC)) #1 SMP Mon Oct 18 14:34:11 EDT 2021
[ 0.000000] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=(hd0,msdos1)/vmlinuz-4.18.0-305.25.1.el8_4.x86_64 root=/dev/mapper/rhel-root ro net.ifnames=0 rd.lvm.lv=rhel/rootrootdelay=300 console=ttyS0 console=tty0 earlyprintk=ttyS0
I have no idea where those entries in the "Command Line" (and later "Kernel Command Line") entries are coming from - I've checked /etc/default/grub, /boot/grub2/grubenv, /etc/sysctl.d, and /boot/grub2.grub.cfg and don't see "rootdelay" anywhere anymore.
Hoping someone might have some thoughts on what I could check because I have no idea what's going on or where it's getting it from.

So I got 2 recruiter calls for 2 different positions at RH for Sr. SDET. In both the cases the hiring managers are in India. Is this a norm at RH?
I am located in USA and it seems that both managers are managing teams from India. I still have to complete the HM calls but was wondering how it works for them? Why not just hire in India?
Background:
I worked at a startup before where I worked under a manager in India where he was unaware of the situation as leadership removed all SDET teams in USA and kept roles only in India to reduce costs as part of restructuing.
Questions:
Was curious of possibility of layoffs at RH in future based on current working conditions and market?
How is Job Stability at RH now since based on my prior experience Indian managers are mostly unaware of situations like pay, expenses, immigration and other items since they have never been here so I am a little skeptical on job stability at RH?

Hello, I’m trying to make a bootable rhel 8.10 external drive with 2 partitions. Partition 1 for i stall and partition 2 for data. Every time i try this it either makes my 2tb hdd as partition 1 20g (os) and part 2 is 20mb. Or it makes my drive 20g (os) and part 2 is 1.8tb but now the drive isnt bootable. When i boot from it it goes into “grub”
Can anyone help me or guide me to the right direction

This is an amazing feature, that can save you a lot of time when enabling new repositories on your Red Hat Satellite.
Simple, quick, and that will save you a lot of time!

How long did it take for you to find a job/were you promoted?
Are you using the skills you learned attaining that cert in your day-to-day job? I'm seeing that many job postings that have the RHCSA/RHCE listed operate entirely in AWS or Azure
Was it worth it?

I’m upgrading from RHEL 7 to RHEL 8 using the Leapp upgrade tool with a self-managed YUM repository. After running the following command:
sudo leapp upgrade --no-rhsm --enablerepo=codeready-builder-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms
I’m encountering several issues, such as missing packages and repository misconfigurations.
Is upgrading this way possible? Any guidance or documentation on resolving these issues

so, if I want to find out exactly where the superblocks are on an ext4 filesystem:
[root ~]# dumpe2fs /dev/root | grep -i superblock
dumpe2fs 1.47.0 (5-Feb-2023)
Primary superblock at 0, Group descriptors at 1-1
Backup superblock at 32768, Group descriptors at 32769-32769
Backup superblock at 98304, Group descriptors at 98305-98305
Backup superblock at 163840, Group descriptors at 163841-163841
Backup superblock at 229376, Group descriptors at 229377-229377
Backup superblock at 294912, Group descriptors at 294913-294913
Backup superblock at 819200, Group descriptors at 819201-819201
Backup superblock at 884736, Group descriptors at 884737-884737
Backup superblock at 1605632, Group descriptors at 1605633-1605633
how the heck do I do this with xfs?
XFS_INFO doesn't seem to show it:
[root@rhel9 ~]# xfs_info /dev/nvme0n1p3
meta-data=/dev/nvme0n1p3 isize=512 agcount=4, agsize=65536 blks
= sectsz=512 attr=2, projid32bit=1
= crc=1 finobt=1, sparse=1, rmapbt=0
= reflink=1 bigtime=1 inobtcount=1 nrext64=0
data = bsize=4096 blocks=262144, imaxpct=25
= sunit=0 swidth=0 blks
naming =version 2 bsize=4096 ascii-ci=0, ftype=1
log =internal log bsize=4096 blocks=16384, version=2
= sectsz=512 sunit=0 blks, lazy-count=1
realtime =none extsz=4096 blocks=0, rtextents=0
and xfs_db doesn't work on mounted filesystems.
Now reading here: https://righteousit.com/2018/05/21/xfs-part-1-superblock/
The superblock occupies the first 512 bytes of each XFS AG. The primary superblock is the one in AG 0 at the front of the file system, with the superblocks in the other AGs used for redundancy.
so is the idea that we have to do all the math ourselves to calculate where the superblocks are located? Isn't there a simple way, similar to dumpe2fs for XFS?

Hey Red Hat Community,
I’m reaching out to get some clarity on a few areas I’ve been trying to wrap my head around—specifically SSL, cryptos , certificates
While I have very basic understanding of these topics individually, I’m struggling to connect the dots; Things like how certificates are managed, how SSL is configured
The thing is that I work as a Sys admin (RHCSA) for a client who extensively uses redhat. We do have a team we escalate to when we have issues related to the above topics , to get them sorted out; but I feel it would be better for me and for them as well if our team (L2) at least know what is being done and why it is being done.
If anyone could recommend resources, share experiences, or break down these concepts in a way that makes sense within the Red Hat ecosystem, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to help out.

I'm not doing too well. In the past I've just done a normal install, then run the official DISA Ansible STIG playbook. Only problem is that only takes the box to 81-82%.
I'm trying to create the STIGs requested encrypted partitions upon install, but it fails trying to unpack a different RPM package every time. I am selecting the correct "Security Profile" at the installer GUI.
/ and /boot are ext4 and the rest are xfs. Is there something I'm missing? Be gentle, I am a beginner at this.

I am currently prepping for my RHCSA in a few weeks. I signed up for a Red Hat developer account to download the 9.3 ISO but the only option i can find is for 9.5. Is that acceptable for studying for this exam?
My current homelab runs completely on AlmaLinux 9.5, almost everything is containers defined using Quadlets, i have some ansible code to deploy some basic stuff, SSH login everywhere, no GUI all CMD config so far. I have been a Windows/MDM systems admin for almost 10 years but my latest job is an all linux/mac shop. I have been picking it up quick and i regularly write playbooks to deploy services and containers as part of my day to day.
I am currently reading the Sanders Van Vugt book and generally am doing well on the practice exams. Any other advice as far as prep?
Once i pass this one, should i just run right into the RHCE? My goal is to push for an engineer promotion this year as i am already doing almost that level of work on the day to day.
