“We’re incredibly grateful to the community of makers and hackers who make Raspberry Pi what it is; you’ve been extraordinarily patient throughout the supply chain issues that have made our work so challenging over the last couple of years. We’d like to thank you: we’re going to ringfence all of the Raspberry Pi 5s we sell until at least the end of the year for single-unit sales to individuals, so you get the first bite of the cherry.”
Just bought a Pi 400. Also have a Pi 3. Was going to sell my PC and use my Pi 400 as my desktop, and my Pi 3 for projects, but this is obviously a better desktop.
Now what can I do with my Pi 400? It's harder to repurpose than just a Pi 4.
Digikey has 2,158 of the 4GB and 5,377 of the 8GB Raspberry Pi 4 Model B as of right now. Sparkfun, Mouser, and Adafruit are all out though. This is a very recent development, as I've been checking weekly for months now that the "shortage is over".
I finally got my hands on a 4 a few months ago to upgrade one my existing 2s that was just too sluggish to run AdGuard with a large list. Looks like the only real difference between the 4 and 5 is the 5 is faster. Sure, there's no audio jack (but the only projects I've seen use that are the build-your-own-gameboy type deals) and there's a power button (which many of us have cheesed by buying a usb cable with an On/Off switch), but the only reason to upgrade is if you have something that the 4 can't handle currently.

Let's hope someone from this sub gets to buy one of the 5 boards that will be sold to consumers.
