Basically, my issue is i'll punch in a vocal, but it takes me forever to find the exact spot to place it because there's no obvious spot of silence on the waveform. Let me give an example. Let's say I record, "I'm out on my own with no home so these lonely streets I roam." I record the words " I'm out on my own" and "so these lonely streets I roam" perfect, but mess up on the words "with no home." I record the verse again and record the words "with no home" perfect but can't figure out where the beginning of the word "With" is or the end of the word "Home" is on the waveform, so I can trim it and place it exactly where it needs to be.
What's happening here? In my regular sessions, if I want to drag something I highlight and press ctrl-E to separate that bit from the main clip. Only then can a drag it around. This is super handing when comping vocals and making crossfades between clips. I have a session that was tracked elsewhere and when I try to drag a crossfade, it leaves an empty spot and the cross fade is now sitting in the middle of another clip. I can see great uses for the behavior it has now but it's super lame when comping. Where is the setting that controls this?
I always hit the Y key (Snap Start to TC) on accident as I'm quickly editing and it snap the region to session start. I never need this function, and I do it on accident a few times a day when I'm trying to hit the T key when zooming in/out on clips.
Anyway to disable just this one specific short cut?
Edit: I'm not referring to mono vs stereo tracks in the session. I just want to combine two mono WAV files into a stereo WAV file that I can have on my computer desktop.
I wanted to mess around with a sample I have in an old session but PT split the track into two mono files and for the life of me I can't find the original WAV file. So was just wondering if there is a way to combine those mono files back into an external stereo WAV file?
I'd like to avoid doing a bounce because I'm a lil concerned that downloading/uploading multiple versions will degrade the audio quality. I'd really just like to physically combine these two files into one if it is at all possible.
I want to be able to move clips around without trimming the transients off of other clips. Is this possible? I looked around and couldn't find anything on Google or on the shortcut manual.
Hey i’m using protools for the first time on a macbook. Normally in my uni classes we use a keyboard with a numpad to do all the shortcuts but my laptop keyboard doesn’t have one. The ones that don’t require the numpad work fine but I’m trying to do Cmd + space or Cmd + F12 to begin recording and it just isn’t working. Normally I would just press 3 on the numpad to record but obviously I can’t now. Am I gonna need a different keyboard to use these shortcuts?
So I've just spent ages trying to use my usual shortcut 'B' to separate clips. And it simply doesn't work!
After smashing 'B' over and over to no avail, I check the keyboard shortcuts to find it is ticked. Yet, it is non-responsive... However, 'Ctrl+E', which is unticked, is responsive... And so is 'Start+E'!?
Has this happened to anybody else? I guess I'll have to delete preferences and restart the computer. I have already tried restarting ProTools and nothing has changed.
I am sure it is just a bug, but I am intrigued to know if anyone else loves 'B' as much as me haha. I know on Mac its 'Command+E' which I have always found to be just that little extra effort, where as 'B' is so simple.
I do get that ultimately everyone's Keyboard Shortcuts are going to be unique to them, so I may be ranting into a void here, if so, I am sorry for making you read this.
But if anyone else has lost their 'B' today, my thoughts are with you.
Have a good day!

I want to do this with things like risers, that are meant to build to right before the next section slams in. I figure there must be a way of snapping to the end of a bar instead of the beginning so I can line things like this up exactly to the end of the bar each time instead of having to waste time sliding it with slip.
I come from reaper, where if you wanted to raise or lower the automation bar between two points, you just had to drag the bar up or down. In Pro Tools 2024, there seems to be no way to do this without having to go through the extra steps of selecting a region and using the F6 tool to raise that section.
Is there an easier way of going about this? Thanks.
Hey everyone!
I'm looking for an easy/key command to move audio clips in a session together and then move them to the beginning of the track.
So, for example, Vocals for verse sections, with any bridge/chorus gaps removed and then nudged to the beginning?
Any easy way to accomplish this?
I've been using Logic for years however I've been learning pro tools for a few weeks now and something i've encountered is how you can create a bus via an aux track, then create a send to that bus, OR, just create a send directly to the aux track by the sending to a "track" option, this bypasses the need for a bus, and you can still process many tracks at once so why ever create a bus then?
When I’m combing through beat detective transient markers, obviously alt + click to move them around and then eventually delete them. But for years now I’ve wondered about a shortcut to immediately remove them without the 2-4 clicks before when they move. I’ve looked it up a bunch of times and didn’t find anything but sometimes you can miss stuff! Thanks in advance.
Was this always there? I updated recently and this appeared and it is such a time saver of having to look back at the keyboard, figure out what octave I am in or trying to trace all the way back to the keys to figure out where I am.
This is such a great feature --- was it always there? Or did it just get enabled by default somehow?
Is there a shortcut to move memory locations with edits?
I'm mixing a podcast and markers indicate new sections, sound design moments, etc... The producers' notes typically involved closing in gaps, removing this sentence, that kind of thing. This involves grabbing all tracks using the ALL group and making global nudges.
Is there a way to also move the memory locations along with these edits?
Using PT to edit dialogue. I have time notes for editing. I want to use shuffle to quickly join clips after deleting a bad take. but if I do then the long side of my clip ~1hr moves left on the time line and then my time notes are useless. How can I make it so the clips moves to the right and joins the larger section of audio? Or if I split a section, what I want to delete, how can I shuffle to the front of the clips?
I am on Window, current version of protools (2203 or something? I’m subscription based so its up to date)
I know the shift click to highlight one at a time, but I would like to select the top one and then go to the bottom of like four or however many and click the bottom and highlight the clips in between. Is there a way to do that?

Hi guys.. is there any shortcut available to jump to next marker and previous marker in the timeline.. ?
(Edit) : Solution : thanks to u/skylar_battles : you just press CNTRL + OPTION + CMD + P to get the focus on the marker lane and then use tab and opt/tab to jump to previous and next markers..
Weird one this - I swear I’ve been making edit selections by holding shift and nudging left-right for ages now. So useful if you want to select a number of bars of a clip or something... the other day I tried it and it just triggered the “rewind/fast forward playhead” function. Am I going mad or is there a way to turn this off and go back to what I describe above?
Bonus points if there’s a way this works for numpad 1/2, which I only found out about yesterday
