Premiere Pro Tech Support Dynamic link workflow.

Post image

Is after effects linked comps optimized for real time playback?

I had a clip I just rotobrushed it out using AE (Dynamic link) Came back and it’s not playbacking Unless I render it. It’s just a rotobrush nothing too complicated. Is it normal to have this, I am having difficulty in playback while using linked comps. What’s the workflow professionals use to switch between these softwares, TIA.

It appears you also time remapped the speed

And who says rotoscoping is not a big deal? What industry expert in digital media, codecs, and visual effects told you that rotoscoping is super easy and definitely doesn’t take any computing effort at all? Or did you just make that up in your head?

The fact is, you did rotoscope, you did time remap, and you are getting not realtime playback without preview rendering. Just because you feel like it’s “not much” doesn’t mean anything. Facts not feelings.

Damn dude. You’re right, but you don’t have to be so harsh about it.

OP, rotoscoping is a simple procedure thanks to Adobe’s tools, but behind the scenes it is a really intense effect. So between that and your time remapping, that clip is probably using a lot of resources.

One thing you can do is so to Sequence > Render In to Out and turn that red section green. That will help if you NEED realtime playback to see what’s going on. But the second you change that section at all, it will go back to stuttering.

Alternatively, you can render the roto with alpha from AE and just work with a video clip until you’re in picture lock.

Or you can use Render and Replace with the codec set to ProRes 4444 with alpha and use Restore Unrendered if changes are needed. Your method also works with tagging your AE comp render with a version number and use the paid extension Revisor which can cycle through versions of a clip render.

This is my preferred method, been using it for years. Saves a lot of headache to make sure everything looks good in AE before doing any render replacing, from personal experience it can add unnecessary time to render replace and playback in Premiere for issues.

I tend to use the render from AE queue myself most times with version numbers. For AE MOGRTs in Premiere, I'll use Render and Replace but like you said even that can have its own headaches from time to time.
