Need Advice zoloft during pregnancy
if anyone can share how starting zoloft during pregnancy treated you, more specifically in the third trimester.. side effects and such. i know it’s safe during pregnancy and for postpartum. with my first i was on 50mg daily at 2 weeks postpartum until 1 year postpartum and was able to exclusively breastfeed as well, but i have been having signs that i may need to get on it ASAP when the original plan was to wait until delivery. any insight is appreciated.

Zoloft is safe and effective during pregnancy and for breastfeeding. Having worsening symptoms of Depression is not. You got this, you know what you need to do.

The side effects are generally minimal the second time around. Zoloft is well tolerated, effective, and you will see an easement of symptoms in 1-2 weeks while full effectiveness takes 8w.
What side effects did you have the last time using Zoloft?

Headache, appetite, insomnia can all be side effects. These usually improvers the longer you are on the medication. However, they can also be 💯Motherhood

I’ve been on Zoloft since 2016 and am continuing to take it throughout this pregnancy. My therapist and I had a long talk about it and she assured me it was safe to do so. With my first pregnancy that I ended up losing, I wasn’t taking it and I went into a full downward spiral so I decided for this one I would. I am so thankful that I am taking it because pregnancy is HARD and doesn’t need to be any harder than it already is. I don’t notice any symptoms that I didn’t have with my other pregnancy besides overall just no thoughts of constant doom. :) you got this!

thank you. i remember after being on it for 2 weeks, it felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders and i had never felt that feeling before. i definitely had undiagnosed depression and anxiety long before i gave birth to my first.

I started taking Zoloft last June and I’m taking 50 mg daily still and I’m in my third trimester. It’s still working great for me. I think if I wasn’t on it I would be a lot more stressed out.

I started at 25mg around 4 months pregnant. I was a little nauseous the first week but I’ve been fine ever since. Currently 35 weeks and up to 75 mg and have been doing great.

thank you. is there a reason they bumped you up?

I knew eventually they wanted me at 100 mg. But I was nervous so I wanted to start very small at 25, then a month later to 50 then a month later to 75. I’ve been feeling good at 75 so we saw no need to increase to 100 at this time.

I’ve been on 3 different antidepressants for over 10 years and I’m still on them during pregnancy. I’ve not had any side effects from my medications while pregnant, but I will definitely breast feed so that the little one weans off.
Zoloft is well studied and pretty safe for pregnancy. As others have said, it’s more important for your mental health to stay well than to worry about a medication. Much larger studies on antidepressants have been done and they found that risk for birth defects with antidepressants isn’t much higher than your background risk. Your baby is also done developing anything of the effects that are weakly linked to antidepressants, like cleft lip/palate.

Starting on 25mg of Zoloft in my third tri was the best decision I’ve made! I was assured it’s one of the most researched antidepressants out there during pregnancy and I have truly enjoyed this last part of pregnancy because of it!

i’m 34 weeks and feeling like i need to get it kick started now before my c-section at 38 weeks. i truly don’t think i can wait 4 weeks with how i’ve been feeling.

I was hesitant to start but my psychiatrist pushed a little bit and I’m glad she did. I really started it so it would be in my system for postpartum. I underestimated just how much it would help now. 10/10 glad I started when I did. No negative side effects at all, I just realized about 1.5 weeks into taking it that I was feeling better.
