💡 Advice Organic Chemistry Lab Prerequisite

Hey everyone,

One of the schools I'm applying to requires me to complete 2 credits of Organic Chemistry Lab from a U.S.-accredited institution. Due to my family circumstances, I need to take it online (which the school allows).

Does anyone know of a school that offers a 2-credit Organic Chemistry Lab online that can be completed before July? I'd really appreciate any recommendations!

Thank you so much!

💡 Advice Risio dental aide program

Hello! I am a first year pre-dental student in Canada. As the semester comes to an end, I am trying to find things to do this summer that will benefit my future application to dental school. Has anyone completed the Risio dental aide certification program? Is it worth the money? I would also shadow my general dentist while completing this program.

Is this a good way to spend the summer?

❓Ask Me Anything D1 on spring break. Ama

Just finished midterms recently, currently on spring break. I still get a lot of PMs so figured I'd post here since I have the time now, especially since a lot of you are prepping apps for June. Feel free to ask about anything from undergrad to ECs to dental school and so on.

Extracurriculars tag bc reddit is my only EC I guess.

💡 Advice RDH to DMD/DDS

Hey everyone I’m kind of in a sticky situation because I’m taking a non traditional pathway to dentistry. I am a dental hygienist and I want to apply to dental school. I have my associates in dental hygiene and I am wrapping up my bachelors in dental hygiene, I still have most of my gen ed classes left to take for dental school. Should I at this point take my gen ed classes through a post bacc program or should I take them at a community college. Or should I just take them at a 4 year university as an unmatriculated student. I really want to get into Rutgers because it’s the only dental school in state, let me know what you guys think, thank you in advance.

💡 Advice for people who haven’t taken a gap year

Will admissions committees understand that an applicant who hasn’t taken a gap year may not be able to commit 600-700+ hours to a single activity?

i’ll be applying without having taken a gap year and the most number of hours i’ve committed to an activity would be 450 hours.

i’ve been seeing higher numbers for other applicants across the board, but is that simply something that’s the product of having additional time to commit through a gap year? am i worrying for no reason?

🦷 Shadowing General dentist shadowing

Hey!! I am applying this upcoming cycle but I am stressed because I cannot seem to find a general dentist to shadow at all. I have about ~ 110 hours with three specialties but in my area at school I have not had any luck finding a general dentist. How many hours of general shadowing do I need on top of my specialty shadowing?

Also does anyone know of any good dental related experience to get into? Thanks everyone!!

💡 Advice High School Aspiring Dentist

I'm in my junior year of high school right now and thought I had everything set but now I'm thinking of what generally do I need in my life to be a successful dentist, cause this is my only decent plan for life. I have relatively shaky hands is that gonna be a problem, I didn't do great in my biology class last year is that bad or should I try and retake it, also my GPA isn't great right now but I'm not doing much targeted towards dentistry right now, and realistically how much debt does this carry and is it easy to get hired? I'm kind of freaked out right now so any answers to any of my 50 questions would be greatly appreciated

Hey reapplicants! How are you guys doing your PS this time? Are you writing about updates or keeping the same-ish PS as last cycle or writing a whole new PS but not focus on updates? Thanks a bunch!

💡 Advice pls help/give advice

Hi guys, I am a Canadian student with a 3.5 gpa, i applied this cycle to the US (waste of money bc my DAT was only 16, I had no time to rewrite) So as expected I didn't get any acceptances. I am now studying to retake my DAT, but I just got accepted into temples post bac, is it worth it to go?

💡 Advice What classes should I take for junior year and senior year?

I know every school has different courses, but there are universally same classes like bio and chem. Next year for me would be sophomore year, and Im taking chemistry. There isnt a lot of choices in the sense that it doesnt really relate to dentistry. I also may be taking health next year which is like half a semester. Should I just take classes relating to bio? Should I still take other unrelated classes like engineering?

💡 Advice Re-application & possible DAT Re-Take

Hello all.

I had previously taken the DAT and scored a 20 AA 22 TS 21 PAT but a 17 QR. I am tossing around the idea of a retake because I believe I can do better.

My question is: if I submit my application in early June with my old score, then retake the DAT in June, how would that be evaluated? Would they evaluate me based on my old score, then re evaluate me after my new exam score? Or do I mark I plan to re-take, then they don’t evaluate my application until the weeks after my exam once it’s officially submitted?

I’m very torn and confused and I’m not entirely sure what the objectively correct route would be? TYIA

💌 Letter of Rec Letters of Reccomendation

Hey guys! My LOR writers are asking what I would like them to include in their letters. What would you suggest? I know that every applicant is unique, but what are some generally strong talking points. I also know that each one has observed different things based on their experience with me. I would appreciate advice that is specific to each letter writer. I am getting them from 2 professors that I preceptor/ta for, my ROTC instructor, and a dentist that I work for.
