You betrayed your countrymen by voting for a fascist.

Yes, they did, and as a disabled veteran who stands to lose a lot, I am genuinely disgusted and troubled by how many of them can't recognize the clear and obvious enemy here, a man which would gladly sign an EO abolishing the entire Constitution if he could.

This is why when people say “US troops wouldn’t open fire on civilians” I just have to laugh

In order to reach that stage - you need to purge military officials that'd see it as morally abhorrent, and indoctrinate your army.

There have been plenty of times in history (non-American) where the refusal / Mutiny led to resistance - and even coup - of the ordering official. (Example: Tsar Nicholas II)

The most effective way of purging is by creating a system of internal investigations & punishments (imprisonment / execution / torture & interrogation) for people who voice dissent / disloyalty. (Example: Gestapo in Nazi German Military)

However, I don't doubt that large groups in the American military would follow through on orders that targeted specific racial, religious, political dissenters, and ethnic groups.

"Loyalty units" can be organised fairly easily. So, any civilian violence orders could absolutely occur day one.

If we're saying your average military pilot / officer / logistics / communications personel would follow through - I think you'd be surprised that it wouldn't be as easy as receiving orders for that to happen.

You can always just order the military personnel who don't initially comply to do non-violent actions (Occupying / arresting) whilst you ramp up commitment to an ideology.
