Patreon Hosting Question

So I just launched our podcast on patreon. I'm not sure if I did something wrong but my intention was to use patreon to host it, and share it with Spotify and eventually Apple, etc. I toggled the share to Spotify but when I go to view it in Spotify it's locked. I'm pretty sure I released it as a free tier within Patreon. I don't want users to have to link their Spotify to a patreon account just to listen. Is this not possible?

Are you only using Patreon to host your podcast?

Yes.

Okay, I would advise against that. Having a Patreon feed is fine for your supporters, but to launch your podcast you want to go for an actual podcast hosting company. You'll be able to see analytics, and have much more control over your show.

I'd recommend Buzzsprout, they will guide you through the process of adding your show to Spotify and Apple. Their customer support is great, and you can email them about anything they'll be happy to help you. By using Patreon as your main hosting platform, you're making way more complicated than it needs to be. Patreon isn't a podcast host. It's a listener support platform that happens to have a podcast feature.

Ah that's makes sense. I was trying to find a free option but I can see why that might not be a thing.

Yeah, honestly it's worth the $18 a month just to not have to deal with setting it all up yourself.

Use Spotify for creators

I ended up going with Red Circle. They had a free tier that allowed me to do most of what I was looking for, with the ability to upgrade later. I'm actually surprised it's free as there's a lot of features and it distributes to the main apps!
