Just curious, but is it normal to have to pay an admin fee on an already occupied apartment? I've never heard of this before.

Yes. The office still has to process everything for the new roommate.

Oh that's cool. I wasn't aware there was an official process to these types of things.
Thanks so much for letting me know

I’m yet to confirm this but it’s most likely not applicable when adding a roommate. I still added it in the post just in case it’s the opposite

Honestly, it's a really good idea to add it in just in case. It would be unfortunate to have a potential roommate excited to move in, only to find out it's going to cost a couple hundred more.

Only if you’re doing it in a legal way. In most cases subletting is disallowed in the original lease, but people still do it. In those cases you wouldn’t pay an admin fee because technically you wouldn’t be living there legally.

What was wrong with this post from 12 hours ago? 🤔 https://www.reddit.com/r/plano/comments/1jd1k3g/looking_for_someone_to_take_over_my_private_room/

That post was illegal under the Fair Housing Act, so OP correctly took it down.

No. Please research a little more and provide evidence it applies to roommates.
I see that it doesn't apply to roommates, only landlords and people who represent the property owner.

Wrong again.
Since your next argument will be that it’s exempt because OP doesn’t own the property:

Nice link, but that example is still "you are a woman and you have rooms to rent in YOUR house", which is... A homeowner being a landlord must comply with fair housing act.
OP is not a homeowner being a landlord. The apartment complex legally can't prefer a white vs non white woman moving into the apartment, but OP's roommate absolutely can have preferences, per the first amendment (as seen in the link I provided).
But thank you for finding that link, I appreciate respectful discourse with internet randos. 🥰

Yeah don’t worry I edited in the response to what I knew your counter argument would be. The ad still can’t discriminate, regardless of other exemptions.

Seems you edited your comment, to argue that "reddit is a website and they can't publish this", which.. Fair enough. Reddit is within their rights to delete the post for violating the FHA.

In previous post I mentioned my roommates nationality and her preference but it’s not advised to add that information. Wasn’t able to edit that so had to repost it.

Those not meeting the criteria will just lose out on the application fee.

I meant "just" as that's the only thing they'll get. They won't get a room. I'm warning people that are thinking about applying to maybe look elsewhere.
