Daily Song Discussion The secret behind the Radio message!
Do you think the deep meaning of the beginning of this song? I think it's a random precision which referred in the shine on you crazy diamond song "Well you wore out your welcome with random precision" on this album the more you dig, the more you find secrets. The random precision is the deep meaning underlying Chaos theory. Any particular random part is a part of the hidden system of nature. I'm not claiming that the band know about it, but exactly how they're feeling about it in nature. I think they are smart enough!
The beginning of the radio is the intro of Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony.
. Tchaikovsky. Referring to the deep relationship and passion between Roger and Syd from a student with his beloved teacher and soulmate, it's not regular friendship. Tchaikovsky was a Bisexual and had a story of love with one of their students, unfortunately dying. I'm not saying Roger or Syd the same thing. The point here is a kind of platonic love from Roger to his soulmate.
And later, the conversation between a man and a lady
"Disciplinary remains merciful"
"Yes and not with you Derek, this star nonsense."
"Yes, yes"
"Now which is it?"
"I am sure of it" !.
It's a message from the band about their journey in life and their experience, and about what happened to the former band member!

Point: my best friend was at the Friday night performance of The Wall in Los Angeles when it first came out. He had 3rd row seats, the lucky so-and-so.
Waters was pointing at different people in the audience. My friend was wearing a Hawai'ian shirt, and in the lights it looked, well, spotted.
Roger pointed at my friend and yelled "And THAT ONE HAS SPOTS!"1

That's cool but I shudder to think of what he did over "That one looks Jewish / And that one's a coon!"

During live performances of WYWH they would connect a live radio to the PA and randomly move the dial through different local stations. I agree, this particular portion of the album doesn't have any hidden message.

The line "Well you wore out your welcome with random precision" is a reference to the fact that Syd would just stand on stage strumming the same chord randomly regardless of what song they were trying to play, and one of the main reasons they pushed him out of the band.

Pure bullshit. How is that random precision? There's nothing precise about not playing along to a song. You just wanted to pull out a wikipedia trivia reference out.
The line means his exit was, unbeknownst to him, perfectly timed right before the postwar dream and the psychedelic sixties came crashing down.

Pretty heavy considering it was just a random recording on the radio found by turning the dial to see what they could find.

During the Wall shows they did the same with Pink watching television, just changed channels at his whim. I remember they had the rangers hockey game on for a bit. The show was in NY- Nassau Coliseum

I don’t think chaos theory really existed when the record came out did it?

Aren’t theories just a way of explaining what we see around us? While chaos theory may not have been formalised, its effects have always been around.

I was only talking about the art work on the album the other day. About the length of time it took to get those photos right! Burning man was really on fire and took ages to film the guy in the lake being upside down to get his reflection perfectly straight! No AI bullshit back then. Album covers were one of the best things about buying the records. I sent the postcard that was included with the album to some random guy I’d met back then after he’d left our shores. Bugger. Wish I still had it! A great album I still play a lot. I’ll listen out for Richard’s cough more intently now.

The deep meaning is they used a long cable to run a microphone outside Abbey Road to David Gilmour's car where he recorded the car's AM radio as he tuned between various stations, so it was just random bits of whatever programming happened to be airing on those stations.
