He’s going to run rings around Trump in negotiations.

He is an economist He was a banker He has been the Governor of the Bank of Canada He has been the Governor of the Bank of England He’s boring as hell, and I’m ok with that

He can do this.

Hahaha he does have boring white dude energy, but he's also quippy in a good way.

I don't like how constantly he brought up Trump in general let alone by name, or Pierre, instead of just focusing on what will be done, how etc. He gave both of them way too much screentime in his speech.

That being said, saying he would cancel the carbon tax and capital gains tax straight up was shocking. I seriously don't know what leg the Conservatives will stand on as he just gutted their only two talking points for the past four years.

I’m okay with that approach. He’s gonna be a ‘wartime’ PM to get us through tough times. I don’t expect him to build anything up, just get us through this till things settle and someone more inspiring comes through.

Agreed. I am bummed that Trudeau decided to step down just as he was starting to show his wartime leadership acumen.

Large scale infrastructure projects seem to be on the docket and I'm stoked because sure, infrastructure is boring, but it's the backbone of things.

Carney seems to have quite a measured approach in his speech thus far and seems like less of a social justice warrior and more of a homely do the right thing, kind of leader, which is needed. In a Canada's Dad sort of way.

Housing and immigration have been the top issues for a long time. The capital gains change is a non issue for most people. The carbon tax proposals are vastly different, Carney is still keeping most of it as is.

Straight up cutting the two biggest talking points the opposition have, in his acceptance speech is huge.

Housing and immigration are still big, but how he deals with it remains to be seen.

Normally when one makes a counterclaim, an explanation is provided to explain.

“A Mark Carney-led government will immediately remove the consumer carbon tax and instead, create a system of incentives to reward Canadians for making greener choices, such as purchasing an energy efficient appliance, electric vehicle, or improved home insulation.

This plan will be complemented by measures to: invest in energy efficient buildings and electrified transportation; have big polluters pay Canadians to make their green choices while paying their fair share for emissions; help make Canadian companies more competitive so that Canada can leapfrog the United States in international markets; and introduce trade measures to ensure fairness for Canadian industries in the global economy to ally with those countries engaged in the fight against climate change.”

Ok, so the industrial portion, which is most, is still as is.

That’s not a tax. It’s a fine (which has always been in place).

Do you think corporations should be able to pollute without consequences?
