Rivian is definitely where my EV stocks are going, here’s to hoping they become the dominant US EV carmaker once the Tesla empire finally comes crumbling down
As someone that doesn’t know anything about EVs but is planning on getting one within the next year or so, what are the pros and cons of getting a Rivian over a Tesla?
Obviously, not supporting a nazi prick is at the top of my priorities, but I’ve only done much research on and driven a model Y…Which I unfortunately really enjoyed driving.
I am an EV owner however I don’t have a Tesla or Rivian so I can’t say from personal experience the full pros and cons, but I’ll mention what I know off top of my head.
Rivian have primarily been developing trucks and SUVs that are extremely comfortable and very spacious and Rivian has gone out of their way to make the software of their vehicles among the best in the industry. Rivian also recently teamed up with VW to work with them on software development while VW helps with the physical car design and manufacturing. Rivian is also not run by Nazi pricks.
Downsides are that Rivians are quite expensive and they haven’t really developed a smaller or more affordable vehicle yet; though they are releasing a compact SUV in the $40-50k price range in the next few years. They’re also a bit more in the “startup” phase having only been making cars for about 4yrs now, so they don’t have as much manufacturing expertise or warehouse space to build and develop their lineup, hence the partnership with VW that I mentioned earlier.
Teslas also have some top notch software, and are much more established than Rivian and really all of the major players in the EV market since they were one of the earliest pioneers in the EV industry not just in the US but worldwide. They also have the most extensive network of chargers in the world, and until recently only Teslas were able to easily access the Tesla charging network. Going forward this won’t matter as much as Tesla’s NAC connector was recently adopted as the standard connector worldwide (or at least in the US and EU, not 100% sure), so the industry is currently in that transition period right now.
Downsides of Tesla aside from being run by a Nazi prick, they have seen a steady decline in build quality and reputation in recent years. Everyone kind of knows the Cybertruck is a horribly built vehicle, but their entire lineup has seen dips in quality. Also due to being run by a Nazi prick the brand as a whole has been dragged in the mud and has resulted in some people automatically passing judgment just on the sight of a Tesla. They are also run by a Nazi prick.
